He said he will be good to go tomorrow. • Right wideout Royce Pollard did not practice because of a tight right hamstring. He expects to start against New Mexico State Saturday night. Manoa makeover

Sure, the Warriors are in a slump, and not only because of the narrow loss to San Jose State. There are questions about its pay-per-view future. So, after a nap on the armchair, here are some thoughts: • Television: The thing is, the sports channels are over-saturated with, well, sports. What the Warriors should do is explore other networks, like MTV, VH1, HBO or Discovery. Sign up with one of those networks, then open the doors, allowing the cameras to […]

Playing the percentages

By Stephen Tsai on October 16, 2011

In the debate against football, it has been argued that head coach Greg McMackin is outrageously overpaid while volleyball coach Dave Shoji is outrageously underpaid. But here’s a look at the numbers: McMackin’s base salary ($1.03 million) accounts for 8.9 percent of the $11.6 million  revenue the football program is credited with generating. Shoji’s listed base salary ($179,438) is 8.2 percent of the Rainbow Wahine’s credited revenue of about $2.2 million. In seeking an extension, McMackin has offered to lower his […]

By Stephen Tsai on October 15, 2011

As Elaine Benes would say: “I am speechless. I am without speech.” That was a strange game involving a dozen combined turnovers, the two blocked kicks and that zig-zag ending. The Warriors are 3-3, but this has been an uneven season. Whatever the reason — injuries, inexperience — more was expected of a team picked to win the WAC. To be sure, the Warriors enter a more favorable part of the schedule. Five of the final seven-regular season games will […]

SANTA CLARA — It’s the day before the game on the road, which means NFL scouts are set to meet with the UH coaches to evaluate players. There are about a dozen scouts in the hotel where the Warrior are staying. The buzz is that quarterback Bryant Moniz is drawing a lot of interest. Also, it was confirmed that David Lefotu will start at right guard tomorrow. It will be his first career start. * * * * * The […]
