Tulimasealii has MCL tear

By Stephen Tsai on August 21, 2013

UH freshman defensive tackle Kennedy Tulimasealii is likely to need four weeks to recover from a partially torn MCL in his right knee. He suffered the injury while in the bottom of a pile following a one-on-one drill in yesterday’s practice. The MRI showed a sprain; all sprains involve some degree of tearing. But his right ACL was not damaged. Tulimasealii’s injury will not require surgery. Tulimasealii was in the rotation on the defensive line’s interior. Moses Samia and Saui […]

One of the prizes of the 2013 recruiting class — defensive tackle Kennedy Tulimasealii — left practice today with an injury to his right knee. It is believed the injury is related to the MCL. Tulimasealii suffered the injury during a one-on-one drill. He was carted off the field. He is scheduled to undergo an MRI today. * * * * * After a relatively short practice today, the Rainbow Warriors will check out of Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam and […]

On the clock

By Stephen Tsai on August 19, 2013

The Rainbow Warriors had an abbreviated practice on Sunday, followed by a tour of military airplanes. After that, a beach day was planned. But a couple of the players asked to return to the barracks to sleep. The coaches then polled the players to see how many wanted to go to the beach. Only five hands were raised. And that’s what happens when there are 18 practices in 17 days of camp. * * * * * The Warriors practice […]

History lessons

By Stephen Tsai on August 18, 2013

Many coaches refer to road trips as “business” trips. The UH coaches are trying to expand the itinerary beyond meeting rooms and practice fields. That is why the Rainbow Warriors have set aside time to tour Washington D.C. during the road trip to play Navy in November. And that is why the Warriors went on private tours of the Arizona Memorial and Mighty Mo yesterday. Before the excursion, the players were quizzed on the significance of the Mighty Mo. Quarterback […]

UCLA linebacker transfers to UH

By Stephen Tsai on August 17, 2013

Former UCLA linebacker Jeremy Castro will be joining the Rainbow Warriors. Castro, who is 6 feet 2 and 240 pounds, has officially been accepted into UH. Castro must redshirt this season in accordance with NCAA transfer rules. After that, he will have four years to play four seasons. Castro signed with UCLA in February 2012 but was ineligible to enroll that fall because he had not met all of the admission criteria. He then earned a qualifying ACT score, enrolled […]

Rehearsal

By Stephen Tsai on August 16, 2013

The Rainbow Warriors will make the most important 10-minute trip of training camp when they go through today’s dress rehearsal at Aloha Stadium. They have timed their arrival from Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam to coincide with their game-day arrival at Aloha Stadium for the Aug. 29 opener against USC. The run-through will include locker assignments, where to align during warmups, introductory walks and a scrimmage set to start at 5 p.m. — the same time as the opener’s kickoff. With […]

Home base

By Stephen Tsai on August 15, 2013

The Rainbow Warriors relocated to Joint Base Pearl Harbor/Hickam yesterday afternoon and are set to practice there today. This is termed a bonding experience, although that goal probably was achieved when 100-plus players lived in two dance studios for two weeks. Photos will be posted later.

Camping trip

By Stephen Tsai on August 14, 2013

It will be a camp within a camp when the Rainbow Warriors relocate this afternoon to Joint Base Pearl Harbor/Hickam. The Warriors practice this morning on campus, then pack for the base, where they will train through Tuesday. It should be a nice break for the Warriors, who were stationed in UH’s dance studios the past two weeks. When they return to the Manoa campus, they will be allowed to check into the dorms or move back into off-campus apartments. […]
