Cindy Luis covers University of Hawaii volleyball for the Star-Advertiser. She began her career as a sports journalist in Hawaii in 1981 with the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and was the sports editor, assistant sports editor, columnist and beat writer during a 31-year span before the paper became the Star-Advertiser. She graduated from UCLA in 1977 with a B.A. in Communication Studies.

Depending on what happens at UCI vs. UCSB today, 10-2 would either be a tie for first or a tie for second behind UCI (a win puts the ‘Eaters at 11-2).

Former Wahine Aven Lee has been named assistant coach at Sac State She former was at Nevada and with Wade at UOP http://www.hornetsports.com/sports/wvball/2014-15/releases/20150224jxvgrz It would be interesting if the Big West added Sac State. The Hornets were interested in doing so, as was Cal State Bakersfield. But any new team that joins the Big West doesn’t get the Hawaii travel subsidy. which has cooled the interest somewhat.
Got a chance to chat a little bit with coaches and players at the new courts. At the moment No. 1 looks like Tiegs-Taylor according to Hall and Alvarez. They’re looking to see who can partner with Spieler. They’ve had a few minor injuries and the flu bug which has hurt making decisions about the pairs. Both Tiegs and Schreiber weren’t at practice because of illness. Koelsch has decided to stick to indoor so she’ll no longer be playing sand. […]
UH sand assistant Michelle Meyer is leaving to become the Director of Volleyball Operations for Pepperdine’s indoor team, joining Scott Wong’s staff. UH should be posting the part-time job this week, perhaps as early as Tuesday. Hall said it is a big loss for the program but wished her well. Said the DOVO was a full-time job as opposed to the UH part-time job. It’s a casual hire so the posting only needs to be advertised for a few days. […]
