McMackin chat

By Stephen Tsai on March 10, 2009

During today’s video chat, McMackin said: • The quarterback depth chart is, in this order: Greg Alexander, Brent Rausch, Shane Austin. • Austin goes on scholarship in the fall. • Inoke Funaki will be used as a “bulldog” — a running back/slotback hybrid position. • If Funaki can’t block, he’ll move back to quarterback, as the backup to Alexander. • Antwan “Tua” Mahaley will be used as a tight end in the fall. (He won’t practice there in the spring.) […]

Elimimian is making the grade

By Stephen Tsai on March 9, 2009

Solomon Elimimian is working hard, and not just in preparation for the April 2 Pro Day in Carson, Calif. Elimimian, who is training in San Diego, is taking two on-line classes needed to fulfill his requirements for a bachelor’s degree. He is on track to graduate in May. * * * Don’t expect Blaze Soares to fully participate in spring practice. He still is recovering from a lower-leg injury. But don’t worry. The only thing that matters is that Soares […]

Mr. Popularity

By Stephen Tsai on March 8, 2009

He’s not quite the Manti Te’o of the 2010 class, but VJ. Fehoko already has received at least 14 scholarship offers, including one from the Warriors. Word on the street is that Fehoko, a Farrington High junior, might move to Kahuku to take care of his grandparents. Here’s his highlight video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWLTajVxzoQ * * * It’s interesting that Waialua High (with 89 students in the 2010 class, according to a 2007 census report) has two of the state’s top prospects […]

Micah Inouchi debuts in record time

By Stephen Tsai on March 7, 2009

Derek and Michelle Inouchi today welcomed their first child, a 6.7-pound, 19-inch boy named Micah. Michelle set what is believed to be a department record: 35-minute labor. Derek’s quick and accurate stats show why he is one of the top sports media relations directors in the country. Congrats to the Inouchis. * * * Concerns about the loss of  middle linebacker Solomon Elimimian have been alleviated by Brashton Satele’s emergence as a leader during unsupervised workouts and the offseason conditioning […]

They were tied for the team lead. Linebacker R.J. Kiesel-Kauhane power cleaned 323 pounds. Offensive linemen Ray Hisatake and Laupepa Letuli and linebacker Marc Moody each lifted 319 pounds. Those were significant achievements. Satele is one of eight players who will be on the cover of the UH […]

One tough mother

By Stephen Tsai on March 4, 2009

Keala Watson was a tough defensive lineman for the Warriors. But he’s only the second-toughest in his household. His wife, Leona, recently gave birth to the couple’s first child, Alapa. A few days later, Leona was back in school. Leona and Keala are on track to earn their bachelor’s degrees in May. * * * Offensive linemen David Garness and Brent Leonard are tall and light-haired. Teammmates refer to them as “the twins.” Thanks to center John Estes, they now […]
