Morgan Martin and Lea Monkhouse were named the Big West Pairs Team of the Week after going 5-1 versus six ranked squads—including wins over two top 10 teams—during this past week. Martin and Monkhouse are the first Rainbow Wahine pair to earn the honor this season.

Playing at he No 3. flight, the duo helped UH go 4-2 on its first road trip of the year while facing a gauntlet of six ranked squads on the mainland. They were the only pair to go undefeated on UH’s first day of the trip when they won a pair of matches against No. 4 UCLA and No. 17 Loyola Marymount. The pair picked up UH’s lone point in its loss to the Bruins, and clinched the winning point to lift UH to a 3-2 dual match victory over LMU.

The pair was also stellar during the East Meets West Challenge during wet and chilly conditions this past weekend in Manhattan Beach. Martin and Monkhouse defeated pairs from No. 9 LSU, No. 13 Florida International, and No. 20 TCU, highlighted by their dual-match clinching point in UH’s 3-2 win over FIU. The pair’s lone loss of the week came in a tight might match to No. 5 Florida State.
The pair has the SandBows’ best record at 8-2
Hawaii hosts the Outrigger Resorts Hawaii Invitational at Queen’s Beach Saturday & Sunday. Joining this years field is No. 12 Grand Canyon, Nebraska, and No. 3 USC.

Congrats to Matauita! Good week of play.

Congrats Martin and Weaver! Great job! But, actually they are tied with Maglio and Schucht. They’re both at 8-2. Now go beat USC this weekend!

Martin and Monkhead should play the Ones. Not sure if Kan and Weaver are allowed to go all the way to Three’s. Hope coach get’s Bunn and Luyties into the mix.
