Hawaii will turn to junior right-hander Tyler Brashears (4-4, 2.35 ERA) to extend its four-game winning streak in Big West home games. Brashears will try to duplicate excellent performances by L.J. Brewster and Quintin Torres-Costa in Friday night’s 1-0 win.

TOP 1: Brashears falling behind 2-0 to three straight hitters and CSUN takes advantage as Toerner hits a two-out single and Bumstead drills a double that bounced over the wall in right-center. Hawaii catches a break as Toerner has to go back to third and Murphy grounds out to second.

BOTTOM 1: Keel is a tall, lanky dude for CSUN, listed at 6-6. Ventimilia hits a chopper to third that he beats out for a single and Baldwin bunts for a hit. UH has already matched its total hits from last night. Aliviado tries to bunt but fails to get it down and then pops out to short. Keel does not work very fast, we’ll just leave it at that. Sawelson goes to right-center with a 3-2 fastball for a single to drive in Ventimilia. Baldwin moves to third. Ramirez pulls a base hit through the right side to drive in Baldwin. It’s 2-0. Doi draws a walk and Keel is all over the place. He’s averaging about a pitch a minute it feels like. Keel gets a big strikeout of Ka’aua and then Kitaoka with a liner to right that hangs up just enough to get caught for the final out.

TOP 3: CSUN manufactures a run after Atikoshi bunts for a one-out single. He takes off for second and avoids a double play on a grounder to second by Toerner and then Bumstead rips a line drive into right-center for the hit to score CSUN’s first run of the series.

TOP 5: Interesting inning as Flashman leads off with a single. Raslowsky bunts him over with two strikes and then Flashman tries to steal third with No. 2 hitter up and is thrown out easily. Ka’aua throws out his second runner and just like that, the inning is over. Curious stuff there.

BOTTOM 6: Two more walks for Keel. Runners at second and third for Ventimilia, who on Keel’s 115th pitch hits a grounder into the hole at short. He beats it out for an infield single to score Doi and Kitaoka is thrown out at the plate.

Final line for Keel: 6 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 6 BB, 4 K. Conner O’Neil on in relief.

Brashears gets through the eighth inning at 102 pitches. He’s scattered nine hits but only allowed one run because he hasn’t walked a batter. Six strikeouts. Brashears has allowed one earned run or less in six of his last seven starts.

Torres-Costa in for ninth and he goes 1-2-3 with two strikeouts for his third save. UH now 14-23, 5-6.
