UH recruit to play in all-star game

Waianae High defensive tackle Kennedy Tulimasealii has accepted an invitation to play in the Under Armour All-America Game. The game is scheduled for Jan. 4 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. Tulimasealii remains true to his commitment to play for the Warriors in 2013. Three request releases

Defensive back Mike Sellers, linebacker Kendrick Van Ackeren and receiver Chinedu Promise Amadi have requested releases. The requests, which were made during exit interviews this week, enable them to enter transfer discussions with other schools. Coach Norm Chow said the players would be welcomed back for the spring semester if they decide not to transfer. Defensive end Alema Tachibana and offensive lineman Hunter Hollowed will not be returning to the Warriors in 2013, UH coach Norm Chow confirmed. Also, Jared Leaf has requested — and received — a release from his UH scholarship. Tachibana, who graduates on Dec. 15, said he will either pursue a career in law enforcement or seek to play at another school. Defensive end Siaki Cravens, who missed the past two seasons because of injuries, said he is seeking a medical exemption that will allow him to play football as a sixth-year senior in 2013. Cravens is completing work on a bachelor’s degree. Edwards is MWC’s special teams player of the year

Congrats to Mike Edwards, who was named the MWC’s special teams player of the year. He is the first UH player to win such an honor since kicker Jason Elam in 1992. Edwards was named to the MWC first team as a specialist and second team as a cornerback. He was sixth nationally in kickoff returns, averaging 30.4 yards per attempt. When the clock struck “0:00” last night, the offseason officially began for the Warriors.
