Hawaii football: Victory omelets, Boise State game week
Because of last week’s bye, the Warriors delayed celebrating their Sept. 28 rout of Nevada until this morning. That meant every UH student-athlete participating in the training-table program this semester had the option of specially made omelets for his or her breakfast.

The Warriors received a boost with offensive lineman Kohl Levao, who hasn’t played this season after suffering an injury on the fourth day of training camp, working with the first unit. Levao can play all five line spots.
It also appears nickelback Kai Kaneshiro might be available to play this week. He did not play against Nevada.
The Warriors completed the two-hour practice with sideline-to-sideline sprints. It had less to do with Boise’s altitude (2,730 feet above sea level) than with the Broncos’ fast-paced, shifting offense.

the only ting good is that at halftime you get to flow out the open end to the parking lot to get back to your cooler for refreshment 😉

Kohl “Big Money” is expected to play on Sat.
He can play all 5 OL positions. My guess is that he will
play/start at RG, and be available for C, if needed.
TaagaTuilima is playing very well at C.
The Warriors are expected to get a boost from the return of nickelback Kai Kaneshiro and defensive linemen Makai Manuwai and Eperone Moananu. They are expected to play this week after not being available against Nevada because of ailments.

I think as UH created its identity (Phase I) last season and now starts to form some characterization of how opponents perceive and game plan for them the game does become more “mental” (“mind-right” is how Maddog put it). Especially as opponents “size-up” Hawaii and sees them as more physically/athletically equal. I imagine that’s what it must be like for Boise St (in full Phase IV??). More of a mental challenge than a physical one especially in Conference games.
For years the Hawaii-BYU matchup was one sided. But it was never lopsided. It was just a matter of UH having a “skewed” mindset when games should have went either way. When UH did finally break through and beat BYU the mentality changed (for both teams), well at least for a little while. The “mental” aspect involves a lot of factors and is hard to execute consistently. But Boise can do it. To get on their level Hawaii has to “Just do it” too. Can, CAN do, it. Hawaii 34 Boise St 27
Coaches will have some tough decisions for the travel squad.
Boise has always been a good team but this year Hawaii will be even better when they beat Boise on their own turf. Go Warriors.
You scrap and fight for playing time an opportunity to contribute and travel. The choices will be simple-who can help us now today this minute-so now it’s put up or shut up. They are gonna win as they expect to or the other guys (us) school em. That’s the game-GoWarriors!!!!
Hmmmn, when we played them between 1981-1984, the total margin for that entire span of years that we lost, was less than 30 total points.
I’m just some loudmouth fan, but I’m not really excited about Kohl’s return. As a group, the O-Line has jelled and is playing pretty cohesively right now. I haven’t re-watched the Nevada game, but I thought Wa’a did a pretty good job for a true frosh at RG.
The O-Line is my favorite position group to watch and I isolated a lot on Kohl last year. What I saw was a lack of agility/quickness on pass pro, a lack of power on run blocking, and an overall slowness of recognition/reaction. This was true at RT and at C. Couldn’t believe it when he was being hyped as an NFL caliber player this pre-season. But I will be ecstatic to be wrong.
I see a lot of Boise State supporters touting that Boise State’s pass defense leads the conference. I look at their schedule though and thus far, they haven’t really faced a team that has a significant pass threat offense. Florida State I guess would be the closest to that and they put up 327 yards vs Boise State. Boise State pretty much shut them down in the 2nd half though. It’s going to be interesting to see how well their secondary does against our receivers as I don’t think they’ve faced any receivers that Hawaii has. It’s definitely going to be a game of adjustments. Hawaii though also hasn’t faced a defense like Boise State has the past couple games. I don’t think Boise State’s defense is as good as Washington’s but they seem to be better than Nevada, and even Arizona.
It’s awesome to see the faith posters have in the Warriors. We get chance.
I agree with #5 Akamai Okole – “that stoopid blue field”. All victories won by the Donks there should have an asterisk next to them, as in played on “stoopid blue field!” And I pray, just pray, that bleacher style seats won’t be used anywhere in the new Aloha Stadium.

Watched the Nick Rolovich Show. Two things:
We are truly blessed that the Leahey legacy is alive and well in Kanoa. He is a terrific host! There was a subdued confidence in he and the coach about this game with Boise. Get chance!
Also, Rolo and Kanoa visited the film room and Rolo did a great job of “coach-splaining” the film clips. Again, quiet, but certain, confidence coupled with great schemes. Loved it!

I hope the new stadium has just green seats like the Stan Sheriff Center and Murakami Stadium. I realize that it’s not going to be owned by UH, but I don’t see a need to color code the seats anymore being that we won’t have that many levels. Having consistency in the color, especially being UHs color, just looks better.
On the Nick Rolovich show, I agree with coach’s statements about them having to get the idea of Boise State out of their heads. I think the home field advantage and overwhelming success they’ve had there does get to opponents heads. They go in thinking it’s such a tall task to defeat them there and it can have affect on the teams mental prep.
