Delayed route for JC wideout

If everything goes according to plan, Glendale CC wideout Isaiah Bernard will be joining the Warriors in mid-August.

Bernard has earned an associate degree, a key NCAA eligibility requirement for a junior-college transfer. He said he needed to earn credits in a math class to fully meet the standards to join the Warriors.

Bernard said he has completed the work and was told he will earn a passing grade in the on-line class. But because the course does not officially close until this Thursday, his grade will not be posted until at least the following week.

Benard was scheduled to arrive in town on Tuesday morning. UH players are required to report by 4 p.m. that day. The first practice is Wednesday. Bernard said he has re-booked his flight for an Aug. 17 arrival.

Bernard is 5-11 and 190 pounds. As a Glendale freshman in 2013, he was hand-timed running the 40-yard dash in 4.43 seconds. He was electronically timed at 10.9 seconds in the 100-meter dash, 21.8 seconds in the 200, and 48.91 in the 400.

He will have three years to play two UH seasons.

    hello!!!!

ST? Does this mean someone is not coming this year? Gus Lavaka?

  3. azwarrior22 August 2, 2015 9:39 am

Is that Glendale CC in Arizona…that’s 10 mins from my house.

  4. A-House August 2, 2015 9:39 am

my last post on yesterday’s was cut off because ST posted a new article this am

so, I will continue: did not Eric O play short stop for the 1979 baseball team that lost 2 consecutive games to Arizona or Arizona St in Omaha for the national championship?

  5. Warrior Dave August 2, 2015 9:40 am

    Morning A-house!

Hope you and the Ohana are doing well and ready for our upcoming road trip.

  6. Warrior Dave August 2, 2015 9:41 am

I believe you are correct about Eric O.

  7. A-House August 2, 2015 9:42 am

so, ST what are his “times” now? maintained the same or nearly the same speed?

I remember Mike Aiku who ran the 40 in 4.3 seconds and was drated by the Houston Oilers way back when – speed “kills”, but if coaches don’t let you play what good is speed???

  8. A-House August 2, 2015 9:43 am

    drated = drafted

  9. A-House August 2, 2015 9:45 am

Mrs A-House did her daily work out on the treadmill and tae bow, put on her scrumphfy work clothes, told me in no uncertain terms to stay put, and off she went to mow the lawn – what a lady!!!

  10. A-House August 2, 2015 9:48 am

    Warrior Dave:

see you and Mrs at the airport? 3prong should be on the same flight.

family totally excited to visit the “shoe” – we have been very fortunate that MasaBoy will be coming with us as he did the last 2 years after returning home from Vegas 2 years ago

A-House I think you’re talking about Eric Tokunaga who made the all-tourney CWS team in 1980 when UH finished second. I think he’s a baseball scout now.

  12. Warrior Dave August 2, 2015 9:58 am

I think this will be our 1st road game with MasaBoy. But we did meet him at the Wahine basketball game. Can’t wait to experience the Shoe and the marching band

Nice to have Isaiah Bernard joining the Warriors. Bhat’s happening with Luke Clements and Antonio Flowers? Are thy coming?

yesterday’s #30 islandman … “Online newspapers have to make money in various ways.” … yup, it’s a business. And as long as the marketing doesn’t turn more people off, that’s fine. Some online papers let you login through Facebook and the like. The super intrusive audio popups are gone now from my browser; that sort of ham handed revenue approach is the sort of thing that (IMO) kills interest.

There’s an app on my PS3 that I use to order UFC fights called live events viewer. That would be cool if Hawaii could broadcast each game from there, I would order every game. UH should look into that for the mainland folks and neighbor islands.

    Inyoface:
Aren’t the games available online for mainland folks?

  17. st. anthony trojan August 2, 2015 1:47 pm

There are people from Hawaii born n raised here (or transplanted) in all parts n corners of the world..maybe many of then not sports minded… but you need only ask the crew of Hokulea when they are back in a year or so.. to confirm that…

Maybe not all sports minded… but surely they keep in touch with relatives n friends…now that it is so very east to do on the net… good idea… INYOFACE

Most games are online, but the MWC website does not always work well. Plus if you don’t have fast internet speed it also doesn’t work well.

  19. ML Warrior August 2, 2015 3:42 pm

    AZWarrior, its Glendale, CA.

  20. Ipu Man August 2, 2015 5:10 pm

    Isaiah Bernard is everything
we could wooooooosh for but as A-House said
if coaches don’t let you play, what good is speed?

  21. Inyoface August 2, 2015 8:18 pm

#16 We don’t have all the games online unless you go to a pirated site or maybe the conference site if they’re showing it, which the quality isn’t the greatest. On the app thing UH could charge $9.99 or more a game anywhere in the U.S. in hd quality on your TV like regular cable. It would generate a ton of money I bet. It probably wouldn’t be needed if it’s broadcast on ESPN or cbs but not everyone has cable to watch those games also. Just thinking out the box I guess, not sure how TV deals are made.

Good WR/SB additions (Collie, Ursua, Bernard)…….to offset the subtractions (Harding, Josey, Patterson)…..

    Oops!

Almost forgot to include Donnie King Jr. among the WR/SB subtractions from last season’s roster.

hope not many subtractions this year at opening practice…
