Frequent fliers

The Warriors have booked their flights for the coming season and — no surprise — they will lead the nation in miles traveled with 41,376.

The Warriors decided to return to Honolulu between road games against Wisconsin and Boise State, giving them at least three full days of classes. For the two Midwest trips, they take non-stop commercial flights between Honolulu and Chicago, then travel to Columbus for the Ohio State game and Madison for the Wisconsin game.

The Warriors will be on the road for 24 days, but miss only 12 full school days.

    Long Night ST? hehe

Travel is a given. Distance is the problem. And an ocean.

  4. 3-Prong June 2, 2015 10:59 am

Do the players get to keep their miles?

It’s good for the team to come back between Wisconsin and Boise. I can’t imagine hanging out in Lewiston for a week.

  7. Old School Dave June 2, 2015 11:18 am

One positive perk is that the players earn miles with these road games. Enough is accumulated to pay for one free round trip, which is especially helpful for those players from the continent.

Still have to listen to opposing coaches moan about the “hard” travel to Hawaii. Poor things!

  8. Old School Dave June 2, 2015 11:22 am

Once drove bt Boise on the interstate on my way to Seattle from Yellowstone N.P. Didn’t feel the need to stop there. Did I make a mistake? Need to slow down, more.

  9. jimmy the lock June 2, 2015 11:39 am

I wonder if they have potato calling contests in Boise?

  10. hitman June 2, 2015 11:48 am

  13. Hilo-Warrior June 2, 2015 12:38 pm

    Good Afternoon Tsaikos,

Congrats to coach Matthews on his Marriage last month.

Awesome to see the Warriors getting in some serious work now.

I have been away for some time but since Steele has placed Max Wittek on the Preseason list. Was he named the starter or is he just assuming that he will eventually win it out?

  14. H-man June 2, 2015 12:43 pm

Congratulations and Best Wishes to Luke and Lisa-Charisse.

  15. Akamai Okole June 2, 2015 12:44 pm

    OSD,

I don’t feel the need to go back to BOI again. Been three 2 or 3 times, once for a UH game.

The coolest thing about the place is that although the stadium is “dry”, they let the fans out at halftime to go back to the parking lot for “refreshments” and then back in for the 3rd Qtr.
Unfortunately, for us is we didn’t know about that beforehand and walked to the stadium from our hotel! 👿

  16. st. anthony trojan June 2, 2015 12:45 pm

Maybe he is right….but title should not mean 2 much if benefits n money was the same….another 20 win season 4 him… n be almost impossible to fire…but then again…this is UH…REMEMBER THE ALAMO…REMEMBER PEARL HARBOR…REMEMBER RED ROCHA…REMEMBER BOB WAGNER ETC …ETC… HE HE HE

  17. Akamai Okole June 2, 2015 12:49 pm

    😳

    Great Afternoon All!

    Congratulations to the newlyweds!

  18. H-man June 2, 2015 12:55 pm

Phil Steele has Wittek as the 1st team QB. Unusual since Chow has yet to name his starter and Wittek has yet to take a snap in a game for nearly two years. Still, it’s a nice recognition and honor for the Warriors.

  19. Old School Dave June 2, 2015 12:57 pm

Akamai: Thanks. Glad to know I didn’t miss anything in Boise. However, their new football complex, that rivals Pac-12 schools, might be worth a visit (if they offer tours).

  20. Andrew June 2, 2015 1:25 pm

    18.

I’m guessing unless Zwahlen comes in and impresses the hell out of everyone and/or Wittek gets injured (knock on wood), Wittek will be the starting QB.

  21. bowwar June 2, 2015 1:43 pm

Wittek has the “credentials” to be the “real deal” for UH, but it has to happen on the field. I only hope our OL is able to provide Wittek with enough protection so he’s able to get the ball off and not get sacked.

No one has answered whether Chris Nauole is still on the UH staff…I hope he is…

  22. What??? June 2, 2015 1:49 pm

It was answered long time ago

  23. Old School Dave June 2, 2015 1:50 pm

How is this ruling regarding a CSU transfer from Vanderbilt (based on family reasons) different from Makani Kema-Kaleiwahea’s transfer from Arizona to UH? He’ll likely be forced to sit out 2015 due to some new NCAA transfer rule.

  24. jimmy the lock June 2, 2015 1:55 pm

    Who’s Nauole?

  25. hitman June 2, 2015 1:57 pm

st. anthony trojan lmao !! only in hawaii 20 wins you not save !! and some with 1 to 4 wins in a season might get to see the 5 year of there deal !! lol

  26. bowwar June 2, 2015 1:58 pm

I think it’s a crying shame that the State of Hawaii & UH has allowed a former JC like Boise State surpass them in a short period of time to become a football powerhouse…I guess those taters have alot of power.

  27. jimmy the lock June 2, 2015 2:05 pm

Thank goodness Boise volleyball hasn’t surpassed the Wahine.

  28. Da Punchbowl Kid June 2, 2015 2:18 pm

    Howzit Gangeez! 😉

Gettin all lathered lookin at Tsai’s FB posts. Them Warrriors look good in their work outs. There’s one shot of Fa’alalogo doing resistance training sprints. Braddah looks like he has skin tone colored pads on! He’s gonna be a bull at NG I’m thinking.

Nice to see so many posts and the usual suspects here today.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  29. Lopaka43 June 2, 2015 2:29 pm

bowwar, re #26, those taters in Boise include people working for very successful companies including Boise-Cascade, JR Simplot, Micron Technology, Morrison-Knudsen, and Hewlitt-Packard. They have always supported the program from its days as a junior college with their attendance and their money. Hawaii has a lot to learn from Boise on how to grow and maintain an excellent program.

  30. jimmy the lock June 2, 2015 2:36 pm

Where’s the countdown to the season opener?

    GO SUMMER VACATION!

  31. st. anthony trojan June 2, 2015 2:44 pm

JTL….suggested that last season…guess to hard to do.. .cuz…the cache is messed up he he he

  32. jimmy the lock June 2, 2015 3:13 pm

It’s only hard to do if you don’t know how to do it.

It’s probably a rogue plug-in that’s causing these problems. Too many ads and why put it in the middle of the blog? Can’t figure out what they were thinking when deciding to place trending articles and offers after the blog topic and before the comments.

    Bucks for lolo…

  33. st. anthony trojan June 2, 2015 3:20 pm

seem like the wizards are there in uh site n here…enough said…

  34. Old School Dave June 2, 2015 3:52 pm

Don’t forget the $9 million deal Boise State AD made with supermarket chain Albertsons in exchange for naming rights to Bronco Stadium. They’ve surely surpassed UH in terms of a “winning culture” and their level of support. Just look at their football complex.

Any football team that regularly beats BYU, is okay in my book.

  35. Andrew June 2, 2015 5:15 pm

    26

I think it’s even worst and more of a shame that Utah State has surpassed UH. At least Boise State has had success on the field which has fueled their athletic department. Utah State was once a bottom feeder and has made a complete turn around.

  36. A-House June 2, 2015 6:55 pm

Bosie St has a VB team(s)?

Don’t recall them every playing UH while in the WAC.
