Two free sideline tickets for tomorrow's football game!

Courtesy of Mark Platte, we are in possession of four tickets to tomorrow’s UH football game.
Two are going to Al, who won the volleyball contest but cannot attend the matches.
The other two are going to post No. 400.
And, by the way, these sideline tickets are in the Mauka Orange, fifth row.

* * *

One of Inoke Funaki’s early fans is tomorrow’s opposing quarterback, Weber State’s Cameron Higgins.
“I looked up to Inoke when he was in high school at Kahuku,” Hawai‘i-raised Higgins said before yesterday’s practice at Aloha Stadium. “I idolized that guy. There are some good memories. I was in intermediate (school) when he was playing on this field. I always watched his games.”
Funaki, 25, is a fourth-year junior. He went on a two-year church mission before enrolling at UH in 2005.

* * *

OK, the desk is getting cluttered, so today, I’m giving away:
* Four tickets to tonight’s volleyball match (lower level, sixth row, right behind the opposing team’s bench).
• Program from the Redskins-Jets Aug. 16 preseason game.
• Program from UH-Florida game (autographed by Greg McMackin). OK, we know how the game turned out. But it was the debut of the McMackin Era.
Contest rules will be in the Comments section.

Happy birthday to Stretch, the hardest-working man in engineering. I’m sure the Boise State coaches are wishing him the best.
I know we always see Stretch through amber-colored glasses.

    Happy B-Day Stretch….geez, you’re like what? 30 now….mwahahahahaha

Okay gang, just got word from Ige’s in Pearl City about the TV Gate for the next away game which will be broadcast at 10:00 a.m. So, for all you local fans who are not able to join Birthday Boy Stretch and his merry band on the road to Corvalis, here are the details:

    UH vs. OSU
    Saturday, September 13, 2008
    10:00 a.m.

    Ige’s Restaurant and 19th Puka
    98-761 Oihana Pl
    Aiea, HI 96701
    (808) 486-3500

They will open at 9:30 a.m. I will get there a little earlier because they do not take reservations no matter how big your party is. I would appreciate it if a couple people could get there early as well so we can save a big enough area for all who are attending.

According to Ige’s, they will serve some breakfast stuff, but will have mostly lunch and pupus. It is also being sponsored by Bud Light so I am assuming Bud Light girls will be there and they may have some specials (KK, that’s right up your alley). There will also be a contest for the Ultimate Warrior Fan. Per Ige’s, “Three lucky winners will receive tickets for the 2009 UH vs. UNLV game. The theme is the Ultimate Warrior Fan so come dressed to impress and unleash your inner Ultimate Warrior.” Not sure what that’s all about but I’ll put it out there.

Anyway, if you plan on coming to the event, please RSVP me at jgo8464822@aol.com so that we can save enough seats. People are always welcomed to just stop by but it would be good if we had a rough estimate of the number attending so that enough room can be made.

    Thanks.

    Happy Birthday Stretch!

LOL, when I saw Pride’s post I had to stop and think for a second…I actually wondered if it was my birthday!

  15. al September 5, 2008 9:49 am

    happy birthday mr. stretch!

i hope you have a wonderful celebration and your present shall be a great tailgate with your tsaikos, your family and regulars in the parking lot and of course a warrior victory.

Article about a recruit that UH is apparently interested in.

Dumont hopes to be the next in the line of MC running backs to move on and play at the collegiate level. Utah is the first school Dumont plans to visit. The trip to Salt Lake City is scheduled for this weekend.

“He’s a Division I (college) athlete,” MC coach Ken Peralta said. “He’s taking his trip to Utah after our first game and Hawaii is probably going to offer him (an athletic scholarship). A couple of Pac-10 schools are looking at him. Skill-wise, he has the potential to play at the top level in the U.S.”

“(Dumont) has tremendous vision and he has good balance,” Terra Linda coach Tim Bosque said. “He’s a quality back and you just have to key on him. He’s such a big part of their offense as well. In the past, they’ve relied on him quite a bit and rightfully so. Not that we’d have three guys guard him or anything but we’d make sure we have him accounted for on all plays.”

  17. Garret September 5, 2008 9:53 am

Article about Punahou playing a game on the mainland includes mentions of a number of UH recruits.

Punahou’s shotgun-spread offense features several other standout players, including senior running back/receiver Dalton Hilliard and senior quarterback Cayman Shutter.

Hilliard, who boasts 4.5-second speed in the 40, had more than 1,500 total yards and 17 touchdowns last season and has been offered scholarships by numerous Pac-10 schools, including Washington and Stanford. Shutter — a University of New Mexico commit — threw 21 touchdowns and completed 65 percent of his passes.

Even Punahou’s backup quarterback, Kimo Makaula, has earned a scholarship to Hawaii. Instead of playing quarterback for the Warriors, he’ll be groomed as a defensive end.

“Shows you how much we know,” Ane joked.

This will be an expensive trip for the Buff n’ Blue. Ane estimated it will cost $1,700 per player. The team’s roster this season is 66 players. But Ane said he didn’t give a second thought to accepting an invitation to the Classic. After all, some of his players have never been to the mainland, and it’s not every day you get to compete in an NFL stadium.

“We want to make this trip special,” Ane said. “We understand we represent Hawaii.”

  18. Garret September 5, 2008 9:54 am

Colt has been upgraded in Madden 2009.

QB Colt Brennan – Redskins – 74 to 78 – Looked sharp playing with and against 3 teamers in the preseason. Looks like a winner.

  19. (Jesse) James September 5, 2008 9:56 am

Garret…yeah. Madden himself sounded pretty taken with Colt.

  20. Garret September 5, 2008 9:56 am

Article about a Lanai Pop Warner team mentions a former UH player.

According to the Lanai Culture & Heritage Center, the Pineapple Isle has not had football for more than 50 years, since the days of a ”Barefoot League” (so named because the players did indeed compete without shoes or socks) as well as a Lanai High School team.

”The last time football was here was when my dad played,” said head coach Duane Azoa, whose staff includes George Ornellas, a former St. Louis School and University of Hawaii player.

Among the players is Geori Ornellas, George Ornellas’ daughter, who plays running back and defensive back.

”I thought I would look to join, and I really like being on the team,” she said.

  21. Garret September 5, 2008 9:57 am

    James,

I think that a LOT of NFL “experts” are patting themselves on the back right now for “discovering” that Colt is actually a good player.

  22. MeiLing September 5, 2008 10:00 am

    Happy berfday, Stretch!!!

Here’s a b-day gift idea for someone on this blog with the initials ST

    http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/clt/828752471.html

  37. jojo ® September 5, 2008 10:32 am

Happy Birthday to Stretch! I hope you have lots to drink.

  38. (Jesse) James September 5, 2008 10:34 am

jojo…what do you mean? Stretch only drinks on days that end in “y”

  39. jojo ® September 5, 2008 10:41 am

oh, uh, I mean I hope he gets a lot of drinks, and they better be real, none of those frou-frou, mostly-watered-down-look-alike shots

  40. al September 5, 2008 10:41 am

dpk…. okay, so you and cameron higgins both like zip pacs.

  41. Stephen Tsai September 5, 2008 10:42 am

Yeah, I know it’s been slow lately. So let’s say post No. 100 gets the Florida guide and No. 150 gets the Redskins-Jets program. The volleyball tickets go to the 10th person to write a poem about Stretch.

  42. Stephen Tsai September 5, 2008 10:44 am

And the winner of the guess-the-score contest gets a pair of volleyball tickets to the Sept. 11 and Sept. 12 matches.

  43. al September 5, 2008 10:44 am

birthday boy…..now i get it. i was in maui yesterday and i happened to be on the east coast and some “folks” were trying to persuade me in bringing back the big boy next trip. said they had birthday suits for you.

  44. Koauka September 5, 2008 10:45 am

Rich2176 – you think with this ST can build a seperate wing at his palatial palace?

  45. Stephen Tsai September 5, 2008 10:46 am

By the way, many of us got the mass thank-you email from Bulla.
But what we didn’t get was Zip-Pac.

  46. Bulla September 5, 2008 10:49 am

    45

  47. Thomas Mui September 5, 2008 10:50 am

    STRETCH: Happy birthday!!!

  48. Bulla September 5, 2008 10:50 am

    ST
i’d love to get you a zip pac, just let me know when. and be careful on this blog, others might want to put some zip in your pac…..homey, james, dpk…watch out, i am on to you guys.

ST….got time to swing by tomw???

  50. Stephen Tsai September 5, 2008 10:53 am

    Kidding, Bulla.
But, folks, Bulla and Mrs. Jaegermeister were awesome yesterday.
    Food was packed.
    (Non-alcoholic) drinks were on ice.
    It was very organized.
As a team mom, Bulla is pretty amazing.

  51. Stephen Tsai September 5, 2008 10:55 am

    Al:
Might be able to swing by. Have to check with the wife.
Just bought the family five sideline tickets in the yellow nose-bleeds.

  52. (Jesse) James September 5, 2008 10:55 am

There once was a guy named Stretch.
Many female winks he would fetch.
He was tall as the trees.
Made women weak in the knees.
Because to them he seemed quite a catch.

    MWAHAHAHHAAHAHAHA

  53. Stephen Tsai September 5, 2008 10:57 am

    Stretch … fetch … catch?
I guess there aren’t too many words that rhyme with Stretch.

  54. (Jesse) James September 5, 2008 10:58 am

bulla…I don’t zip anybody’s pac unless there is some junk in da trunk….MWAHAHAHAHAHA

Just kidding….although not so sure about DPK….

  55. (Jesse) James September 5, 2008 11:00 am

ST…I had other ones…but this was the cleanest one suitable for this family blog….LMAO

  56. Da Punchbowl Kid September 5, 2008 11:01 am

Thanks to a lifestyle change, I have “transcended” above lusting after Zip Pacs.

Now if I could just get myself to believe that.

What time is errybody going to be at the T-Gate tomorrow?

  57. Rob25 September 5, 2008 11:02 am

Stretch is a guy with lots of class
Do a shot of CR, he’ll give you a Tsai-ko shotglass
But by far, his favorite place is on the green grass
Using his clubs to kick some…well you know the rest!

  58. BNS September 5, 2008 11:03 am

    Happy Birthday Stretch

  59. Rob25 September 5, 2008 11:04 am

Hi Frank I know that you will be checking in!

  60. (Jesse) James September 5, 2008 11:05 am

Okay ST, here is a Stretch haiku.

    “Body of a god.
Too bad that god is Buddha.
    We call him da Stretch.”

Mwahahahaha. Just kidding Stretch. Hope you have a very happy B-day and hope g-nalo and sleaze take good care of you tonight….

  61. jojo ® September 5, 2008 11:07 am

Have fun at the T-Gate everyone! We can’t be there, because joje has lots of training to do.

  62. al September 5, 2008 11:07 am

tall and handsome so he thinks
cold bud lights is what he drinks.
there is no more avid warrior fan
than stretch and the rest of his motley gang.
with a heart as big as the vast pacific ocean
    his generosity is beyond comprehension.
you would think that he is as old as me
but this young man is barely thirty three.

happy birthday stretch with the 2 “t’s”

stay out of trouble or i will report you to stretchette with th four “t’s”

  63. (Jesse) James September 5, 2008 11:07 am

Garret…so true about Colt. I have a couple of friends in DC who had been talking up Colt prior to his arrival at Redskins camp. Needless to say, their friends are now on board and have become big time Colt fans….

  64. (Jesse) James September 5, 2008 11:09 am

    This one is for Koakane:

    “Roses are red.
    Violets are blue.
    There’s one thing I know.
    Stretch isn’t Koa-Mahu.”

  65. Stephen Tsai September 5, 2008 11:10 am

only six more poems to go.

  66. Muse September 5, 2008 11:10 am

Although I have not met you Stretch
These posts made my mind etch a sketch
    Of a tall burly dude
    Never surly or rude
A man who made many a friend
That are true to the end
Who wear green and black clothes
From their heads to their toes
    And everyone knows
    As the famous Tsaikos

  67. Stephen Tsai September 5, 2008 11:11 am

    OK, five to go.

  68. al September 5, 2008 11:11 am

    hahahahaa.

  70. J-Dog September 5, 2008 11:11 am

Not sure if this was posted yet. Some news about the resurfacing of Cooke/Ching Field at UH. Looks like they will be aggressively trying to finish the project asap.

  71. (Jesse) James September 5, 2008 11:12 am

We all know that Stretch is so nice.
He drinks all his Bud Lights with ice.
    He works quite a lot.
    Watching practice when it’s hot.
And doing that for a very low price.

  72. al September 5, 2008 11:12 am

    muse is stretch???

  73. al September 5, 2008 11:14 am

    there could never be
a stretch as beautiful as he.
if you think i am serious, me?
then humpty dumpty never fell off a tree.

  74. chawan_cut September 5, 2008 11:16 am

    happy birthday stretch.
where are you and koakane gonna celebrate tonight? or is that reserved for tomorrow’s tailgate?

  75. Stretch September 5, 2008 11:16 am

    You guys are killing me…..

Thanks a lot for the birthday wishes and poems (I think). Need to get back to work figuring out how to hold up the antennae for the tailgate tomorrow.

  76. homey ⑤ September 5, 2008 11:16 am

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY STRETCH!

Ralph – what more do you need from a browser than an address bar and a search engine? Chrome provides both with just the address bar. Also, the tabs are pretty nifty. I had no problems transferring bookmarks since there was a transfer option for Mozilla Firefox. In addition, the Internet properties option mirrors IE for those that are familiar with that browser. As with beta and new versions of browsers there’s always going to be initial problems but that can be fixed. Even Firefox 3.0 had problems when they were rolled out.

I will be at the t-gate around 12-ish. Gotta do the beach thing in the morning.

  77. (Jesse) James September 5, 2008 11:17 am

    Stretch you’re my man.
    A real Warriors Fan.
You brought a Spud to the game.
Which has lent you some fame.
All for one and one for all.
C’mon ST, I want to see some Volleyball.

    MWAHAHAHAA

  78. Stretch September 5, 2008 11:17 am

No celebrating tonight. No tailgating tomorrow. We can celebrate Sunday….. ST’s bday.

  79. al September 5, 2008 11:18 am

To Pono, most large universities have a website that you can go to where season ticket holders can sell individual tickets for games. So try OSU’s website for extra tickets.

  88. Baybow September 5, 2008 11:26 am

Hey Hawaii ex-pats who would love to receive local UH sports broadcasts on their home TV sets… has anyone subscribed to the IPTV setup being advertised (see link)? Will you please post your impression if there’s anyone currently subscribing to this service. There are probably many of us outside the state who would be interested, if this works well. Waiting to find out…

  101. da princess' classmate September 5, 2008 11:31 am

    afternoon all go warriors

  102. Mike September 5, 2008 11:31 am

Happy birthday Stretch! Woulda written you a poem, but the only words I could think of to rhyme with Strech were “wretch” and “kvetch.” Heh.

  103. RainboWarrior September 5, 2008 11:32 am

Hey I just want to win something. Please

  104. da princess' classmate September 5, 2008 11:34 am

any good local HS action 2nite …

  105. homey ⑤ September 5, 2008 11:34 am

Hiflyer – made you look! Where do the Warriors stay at tonight?

  106. Mike September 5, 2008 11:35 am

    >>Al, I indeed sprung for the “son-in-law.”

    Which one?

  107. Stephen Tsai September 5, 2008 11:35 am

Hey, Pono wins the Florida program.
    Call me at 525-8051.

  108. Garret September 5, 2008 11:40 am

    PONO,

Stretch has been coordinating the Oregon State plans for the Tsaikos and I think that he has 5 available tickets right now. At least they were available as of last night. Sitting in the UH section is a better option than buying a ticket in the middle of a bunch of OSU fans!

  109. homey ⑤ September 5, 2008 11:41 am

Looks like the tekkies haven’t figured out how to speed up the blog.

    GO WARRIORS!

  110. Kelli September 5, 2008 11:44 am

Happy birthday, Stretch! Or in Japanese… Otanjoobi omedetoo gozaimasu! And in Korean… Saengil chukkahamnida! Um, if you eat Korean food, don’t forget the seaweed soup (see lesson on today’s blog entry). Anyway, have an awesome day!

  111. Stephen Tsai September 5, 2008 11:47 am

Hey, we’ve got two more tickets for tonight, courtesy of UHfan808’s friend. Whoever calls me first at 525-8051 gets them.

  112. HiFlyer September 5, 2008 11:50 am

Homey – No kidding with a week off with no one blogging you would think they could have worked on it, even the clock is fast.

  113. al September 5, 2008 11:51 am

poetry man…..call me or email me.

you too birthday boy, uhfan, and midori (did you get back yet?)

  114. TChahng September 5, 2008 11:51 am

    da princess’ classmate,

QB Cody Von Appen and Kalaheo will play at Aiea tonight. Kick-off at 1930hrs.

  118. Ronnie September 5, 2008 12:01 pm

I would call, but I have to figure out if I can find a way to go to the OSU game…

  119. Rob25 September 5, 2008 12:02 pm

Yeah Ronnie, would be even harder to figure out how to get here in time for the game!

  120. Bulla September 5, 2008 12:03 pm

    Stretch,

if homey comes to the TG tomorrow, we can duct tape to his back…although the antennae would be longer, of course, he would supply a solid base for the antennae……just a thought.

  121. Rob25 September 5, 2008 12:03 pm

We get chance for a proze because everybody is getting lunch. I already got mine.

  122. Rob25 September 5, 2008 12:04 pm

    proze = prize

Still stuck on the poetry thing.

  123. Ronnie September 5, 2008 12:06 pm

    Rob – 😆

  124. Ronnie September 5, 2008 12:08 pm

Mrs. d1島 and I should be there around noon tomorrow.

  130. LizKauai [Believer] September 5, 2008 12:25 pm

    Hiya!
    Lunchowa at last!

  131. Garret September 5, 2008 12:28 pm

Amazing to see just how much San Diego State is losing from Athletics. They projected a huge loss *before* their team lost to Cal Poly–now even less people will attend their games and they will have even less revenue.

Forget about having UH schedule SDSU in the future, as I had been hoping. The real question will be if SDSU can afford to keep having a football team, especially if Qualcomm Stadium goes away and the Chargers leave town. If that happens, the MWC will be looking for another member…and BSU has been asking to join them.

From my calculations, SDSU has an Athletic Budget of $30 mil, but OVER HALF of that ($15.7) mil comes from the school! In other words, the school gives them $15.7 mil and athletics makes the other $14.3 mil from ticket sales, MWC TV deal, etc. I cannot imagine how nice UH’s facilities would be if they got $15.7 mil per year from the University!

SDSU is projecting $1.775 million in football ticket revenue this year, which is less than SDSU earned during last year’s 4-8 season ($1.89 million). But after opening the season last week with an embarrassing loss against Cal Poly, SDSU may be challenged even to meet the lowered goal. The announced crowd at the opener (26,851) was its smallest opening crowd since 2003.

SDSU athletics reported nearly $30 million in revenue and expenses in the past fiscal year. The revenue figure included $6 million from the general fund, $6.3 million in student fees and $3.3 million from the SDSU president’s discretionary funds, which come mostly from a university broadband contract. The latter source of funding was over $600,000 more than budgeted but was needed to make ends meet at the end of the fiscal year because of unanticipated expenses and revenue shortages, including a shortfall in athletics donations of about $400,000.

  132. Stephen Tsai September 5, 2008 12:31 pm

I heard the OSU game is soldout, which could be a problem since The Tizer is bringing up 14 advertisers.

  133. Garret September 5, 2008 12:31 pm

Speaking of the Tsaiko-gate, it is amazing to see what Central Florida fans were bringing to the tailgate as pets…

UCF officials are reminding fans to leave their pets at home on game day. Fans are not allowed to bring dogs to tailgate parties on campus, no matter how tame the pets are or how much they enjoy a nice cookout. Service aid dogs are the only animals allowed on campus.

In the past, I was told UCF has had to deal with goats, pigs, rabbits, cats and dogs on game days. Seriously, goats and pigs.

  134. Ralph September 5, 2008 12:32 pm

happy birthday stretch…..to bad you can’t make it to the tailgate, is saturday your boss’s daughter’s wedding-hopefully it’s in the a.m.

  135. jm2375 September 5, 2008 12:42 pm

    Good afternoon Tsai-kos!

Happy Birthday to da fellow lab rat/guinea pig Stretch!

    Is it Saturday yet?

Dang, wrong weekend for vb. Gotta supervise the kid. She *has* to finish her online course this weekend (plus homework) cuz I refuse to pay another $200 for a 1 month extension. She’s been grounded till she finishes.

Wahine looked good most of the match last night and better than last weekend. Is tonight’s match on PPV or regular tv? Will also be watching US Open if they don’t get rained out.

OK back to work and lurking and work and lurking. Have a good weekend! Go Warriors! Go Wahine!

  136. Jorge September 5, 2008 12:47 pm

    what up yo

  137. Ronnie September 5, 2008 12:51 pm

Rob – oops! I just sent you an email.

  138. Ronnie September 5, 2008 12:54 pm

So, I called the UH ticket office to confirm that they got my order for Boise St tickets. The person I talked to found my fax and told me they were in the process of fulfilling the orders. Today I noticed they billed my card. Yee Haw!

  139. uhfan808 September 5, 2008 12:54 pm

    al- Excuse #197, I meant:

    Rah! Rah! Rah!

    Here’s to old Warriors blogging,
    Here’s to new Warriors too.
Here’s to the Warrior Beat’s leader,
    Stephen: Happy birthday to you!

  160. LizKauai [Believer] September 5, 2008 1:12 pm

Sorry- but I couldn’t resist going for a Colt NFL Game memoir. I’ll keep it good. Promise!

  161. LizKauai [Believer] September 5, 2008 1:13 pm

    Now I gotta HIHO!~

  162. Rob25 September 5, 2008 1:16 pm

  168. 808flowmaster September 5, 2008 1:25 pm

  169. FloridaTed September 5, 2008 1:29 pm

    Hi, Tsaikos and Tsai-Meister,

Happy Birthday Stretch, be carefull of stray Tsaikos in the area when you parteeee, have a good one.

Tomorrow is the day when the Warriors come together as a team and start to click on all cylinders.

I’ll be watching it on ESPN gameplan, it is still scheduled there, isn’t it? I haven’t checked yet.

  170. Stephen Tsai September 5, 2008 1:31 pm

OK, we’re now giving away football tickets. See above.

  171. Rob25 September 5, 2008 1:32 pm

Don’t forget that September 12th is when the Wahine take on Charlie Wade’s Pacific Tigers! It’s like a homecoming for Charlie and three players on his team from Hawaii.

  172. homey ⑤ September 5, 2008 1:33 pm

    It’s ST’s birthday too?

(J)J – Almost 100% sure I’ll be at Ige’s for the OSU game but may be walking in a little late…I hope their HDTV’s actually display the game in 1080i.

Hi Rob25, Ronnie, UHfan808, jmxxxx, XLiz, and any other Tsaikette I missed.

I was watching the Wahine VB game last night and noticed that Minnesota has a huge player! That’s all I’m saying.

Bulla – You should know that I definitely don’t have a solid base. Antennae may be laying in the ground after a few cold ones.

  173. homey ⑤ September 5, 2008 1:34 pm

    400!

  174. Bulla September 5, 2008 1:35 pm

    homey,

j/k bro, at least no one mentioned shaka zulu and impaling you, that would be uncalled for.

whew, tick tock, the clock is ticking…….

  175. Izzy September 5, 2008 1:37 pm

Rumor has it that ST completes another orbit around the sun on Sunday.

  178. chawan_cut September 5, 2008 1:37 pm

where’s the row 5 tickets at? maybe they’re behind us.

  179. jm2375 September 5, 2008 1:39 pm

Homey, are you a little jealous? 😆

  180. duffer September 5, 2008 1:39 pm

    EH Stretch,

I have no poem or haiku, but HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Remind to buy you a drink on the darkside or nickelhana or whatever they call it!

    🙂

  181. homey ⑤ September 5, 2008 1:40 pm

808flowmaster – You guys start t-gating late! 😆 If can, then run across Kamehameha hwy and visit. BTW, why does flowmasters have those bafflers in them? Doesn’t that cause air restrictions and turbulence within the muffler preventing a true free air flowing system?

  182. Stephen Tsai September 5, 2008 1:47 pm

I know these are good seats. Editors sit in them.
Well, they’re not as good as my seat in the press box. I’m right on the 50. Then again, I have lousy deadlines, and we have to share a bathroom with one urinal.

  183. homey ⑤ September 5, 2008 2:34 pm

    We are back!!!

  184. homey ⑤ September 5, 2008 2:35 pm

ST – It’s not like you sit on the urinal.

  185. 808flowmaster September 5, 2008 2:36 pm

homey — technically the tailgating start a couple hours earlier deep in the heart of Waipahu…but will trot over if i get a break from the grill. And i have no idea on the flowmaster for engines. i get my name from a different kind of flowmaster.

  186. homey ⑤ September 5, 2008 2:36 pm

wow, I posted a comment and it didn’t show up.

  187. Izzy September 5, 2008 2:36 pm

  199. Rob25 September 5, 2008 2:44 pm

  200. Chad September 5, 2008 2:44 pm

400!? Did anyone win them yet? Why wait until then. I went to school with your daughter and am her friend. I think that deserves 2 sideline football tickets!

  206. Kekoa (Survivor-WB) September 5, 2008 2:49 pm

Flowmaster ~ The color of the uni pants at home are green. Solid green, like Kermit da frog green. Like Mistah Frogtree green. Like…well, you got da visual by now!

  207. 808flowmaster September 5, 2008 2:49 pm

homey — not the toilet one either…lol…it’s from riding the flowrider surf machine at the waterpark. Actually a Campbell grad, but we meet up at a friend’s house in Waipahu. We do have a Waipahu grad in our group though…a ’92 grad.

  208. TChahng September 5, 2008 2:49 pm

    Auntie Liz,

It feels good but would be a whole lot better if I wasn’t working. I’ll take a vacation for the Hawaii Bowl again this year.

    Gotta go. : )

  209. Rob25 September 5, 2008 2:49 pm

Where did everyone go? Same place as the posts?

Oh oh, if people are being moderated…homey may not be back!

  210. Rob25 September 5, 2008 2:51 pm

  212. LizKauai [Believer] September 5, 2008 2:53 pm

There once was a young man named Stretch.
A really a nice guy; not a kvetch.
    Warrior fan, bold,
    He’ll never get old,
A birthday finds him a great catch!

  213. gimme dem tickets! September 5, 2008 2:53 pm

  214. jm2375 September 5, 2008 2:53 pm

okay, i was just told by the false pordagee that if you pronounce em in portuguese it does rhyme, stretch (straatch), catch (caatch).

ok lizk, i’ll leave you alone.

  220. LizKauai [Believer] September 5, 2008 2:58 pm

The blog is working now- but the main HA page is going through the reconstruct.

Funny that they don’t announce upgrades- unless someone on the east coast forgot this is rush hour in Hawaii.
    Doesn’t feel like a crash and rebuild…
    oh well.
    HIHO!

  221. Chad September 5, 2008 2:58 pm

Ok Rob, let me re-phrase, I am friends with BOTH daughters, son, wife, AND cat. That should be enough now 🙂

  222. Kekoa (Survivor-WB) September 5, 2008 3:02 pm

Rob 25 ~ Your Sons of Hawaii are attending the T-gate? Zooper! Homey will be more apt to behave himself with an MP escort on the premises.

The Cabana’s are on Federal property. Your son got da power to arrest any person or persons that may disrupt the health and welfare of the Tsaiko festivities. He can apply the military combat slippah in a Pearl Harbor minute! Hooahh!

    It’s Oorah Kekoa! Don’t forget he’s a Marine!

Frank said that he doesn’t have jurisdiction and he isn’t on duty. He says because they have federal police. He has jusridiction for us because he’s a son of a Tsaiko and it’s a Tsaiko event.

  231. J September 5, 2008 3:11 pm

Chad, if you going pull Tsai connections…I think I can compete. Though majority for me are on Wena’s side of the family…but that’s the important side. Cat? What cat? It’s all about the boxers. Go ask Wena.

  241. Rob25 September 5, 2008 3:19 pm

I think that family of Stephen or Wena should be excluded from competing for prizes. There could be ethics violations. Remember Herman Frazier!

Article about UH’s new TV color commentator.

He’s the former sports director at KHNL News 8 and this Saturday, Russell Yamanoha will make his return to our airwaves as the new color analyst for University of Hawaii football games.

“Actually out of that Florida game, I don’t think there’s too much that they need to work on, I mean Florida was just way faster,” said Yamanoha. “I think the one thing they need to work on is settling the quarterback, Inoke Funaki gets the start this weekend, but there’s still a four headed monster out there.”

“My predicition, I said it on the radio this morning, 35-10 Hawaii. I’m giving them a touchdown and a field goal on the Weber side and I think Hawaii is good for five touchdowns.”

  267. Rob25 September 5, 2008 3:38 pm

    What happened to Gigi?

Stretch – The antenna is only going to fall over if someone keeps giving homey some of those green bottles or li hing mui margaritas or Jaeger bombs. Eh, wait a minute, Bulla’s going to be there! I’ll have my sons block homey from view so that he cannot partake…he’ll feel like Koakane and then next thing you know, he’s pacing around everywhere making sure that everyone is having a good time.

I don’t know if UH does this with the Rainbow Dancers or cheerleaders…and I don’t think this is the greatest of ideas. Doesn’t USC have enough money already? $150 for each USC Song Girl requested to attend an event…

  274. Rob25 September 5, 2008 3:43 pm

wafan – I know this may be TMI, but I didn’t have any drugs whatsoever and hubby followed the second one from my womb to his NICU incubator. Can you imagine that? He was in the NICU with a hole in his lung at birth and now, as my two youngest would say, he’s a “freak” because he’s so big. At least I have someone to get things down from the top of the cupboards. LOL

Not some kind of NCAA violation? I mean the VB coaches can’t even offer the girls a ride to the football game without it being a violation.

Just want to thank you for keeping track of all those numbers!

    Whoo-hoo!!!

  287. Curt September 5, 2008 3:51 pm

    Garett,

Interesting info on San Diego State athletics. If SDSU dropped out, who would the Mountain West pick? In the WAC, you would think Boise, Fresno, Hawaii, and maybe Nevada would have the best chances. But with our distance and the rise of fuel prices, you would think we’d be at a significant disadvantage. The chances of something like this happening is probably small anyway. All we can do is keep improving our football and other athletic programs.

  288. homey ⑤ September 5, 2008 3:53 pm

TGIF! You people have a wonderful weekend and stay safe!

  289. Pomai September 5, 2008 3:56 pm

  290. brew808 September 5, 2008 3:57 pm

Does anyone know why Kaipo Kaheaku-Enhada isn’t playing for Navy today? Navy is about to lose to Ball St. 23-35 w/ under 2 minutes left. 😕

  291. jojo ® September 5, 2008 3:58 pm

    Hammy injury in fall camp.

  293. jm2375 September 5, 2008 4:03 pm

    brew – I think he’s injured.

curt – why would UH want to go to the MWC? I don’t see the point. The WAC is better/same in the major sports. Besides, why would we want to associate with dem traitors?

  294. Chad September 5, 2008 4:03 pm

Are you talking about the boxers at grandma’s J? If so yes, i know them too! But this getting to 400 is taking too long. I want my tickets already! Is there a prize for picking the score tomorrow?

  295. da princess' classmate September 5, 2008 4:04 pm

  296. Rob25 September 5, 2008 4:05 pm

  297. brew808 September 5, 2008 4:05 pm

d1 – Mahalo for the info.

Rats! Navy and Coach Ken Niumatalolo get their first loss – 23-35 to Ball State! (And no jojo, it’s not in reference to your lost purple beach ball….) 😀 😯 😆

  298. Garret September 5, 2008 4:05 pm

    Curt,

I would guess that the MWC would pick Boise State, especially since they are lobbying so hard for entry. I would think Nevada also would be attractive because they have decent football and basketball teams.

However, if the ESPN deal is really good, maybe none of the WAC teams would want to leave…the funny thing is that a little over a year ago BYU’s President was saying that the MWC messed up and he envied the WAC’s relationship with ESPN…even seeming to hint that he would be receptive to thinking about switching conferences. With more ESPN games and more money now for the WAC, that would be even more attractive to BYU. BYU is probably the top draw in the MWC–best football team, best ratings, etc.

  299. Chad September 5, 2008 4:06 pm

  302. Garret September 5, 2008 4:08 pm

    Rob25,

The USC Song Girls are not covered by NCAA regulations–they are not scholarship athletes. Still, I feel pretty odd about a school renting out their volunteers to go to events…I don’t mind when pro teams have their cheerleaders go to events because they are paid professionals, but Song Girls, cheerleaders, dancers, etc., that are in school I do not think should be rented out like that.

  303. al September 5, 2008 4:08 pm

and where is the gender equity on this one???

  304. Garret September 5, 2008 4:10 pm

  350. (Jesse) James September 5, 2008 4:42 pm

Okay gang…off to a meeting. Will try to get on later. If not, see you guys tomorrow. And here is a reminder….

Ige’s in Pearl City will broadcast the next away game at 10:00 a.m.

    Thanks

  352. Rob25 September 5, 2008 4:42 pm

And, how come you are not going to wash the rice first? Besides, in Pearl City, the rice would be red.

BIG ALOHA TO STRETCH!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU SIR!!!

Only now am I able to even lurk as today was insane at the office.

Hope to see as many of you as I can tomorrow.

Tsaikogate– if anyone has any last minute questions, don’t post them here as I may not be able to catch it. The best bet is to get me at tsaikotailgate (at) gmail (dot) com. I’ll try my best to respond to them by midnight at the latest.

I plan on arriving at the site between 11:30 – 12 noon.

Look for the “TSAIKO” banner and the UH Flag!!!

P.S. A BIG “WELCOME HOME” TO DA BEAST.

I open up my e-mail and there’s a kazillion give or take a couple from Tsaikos playing their jokes.

Quick reminder about tomorrow’s T-Gate. Remember, we’re going to redeem the HI-5 containers to give to Dole Middle School’s cross-country program to help underwrite the costs of running shoes. Please bring your cans & bottles from home as well.

We’re also bringing a microwave, power strip, and extension cord in case you need to heat up your food.

Finally, we cannot use our tickets to the Wahine/Boise State volleyball game on September 20. If anyone would like to use them, just let us know. We’ll leave them at the box office for you.

See some of you tonight and others tomorrow. Happy Birthday Stretch.

  371. Garret September 5, 2008 4:55 pm

My Mom is bringing sushi to the Tsaiko-gate tomorrow…I wish I could have some! That just adds to the long list of food that I will be missing by not being at the tailgate!

At least I get to go out with Lori for dinner tomorrow without the kids–they will be at the home of one of their friends. I had a coupon sent to me for a free steak dinner from Black Angus–I can pick any of their steaks! That (and Coldstone) will be my Tsaiko-gate substitute tomorrow. The game will be on after we put the kids to sleep so the timing works out perfectly.

  372. Rob25 September 5, 2008 4:55 pm

    George Kauwalu update from Doris!

George has been a topic of discussion at UH. At a recent coaches meeting Cal told me he would love to have him come back so I made sure he had all his contact information at AzWestern. Whether George does what he needs to do is up to him, if he does, he’ll probably be a Warrior. He wants to be. Cal is also speaking to Jacob Barit and also from the same JC and Waianae H.S. 2008 JC All-American candidate Travis Nua. All three are being courted by various other schools including Arkansas, Louisville, Arizona and Arizona State (not all by the same but these are the schools in the mix)

I don’t know if UH does this with the Rainbow Dancers or cheerleaders…and I don’t think this is the greatest of ideas. Doesn’t USC have enough money already? $150 for each USC Song Girl requested to attend an event…

Not some kind of NCAA violation? I mean the VB coaches can’t even offer the girls a ride to the football game without it being a violation.

Rob25, as we have all learned over time, certain ***ahem*** schools are ***cough, cough*** “exempt” from such violations (Kazz pukes) 😈 .

  433. jojo ® September 5, 2008 5:12 pm

Kira – LOL how’d you steal my thought?

  434. Garret September 5, 2008 5:12 pm

Bess is the top backup to Ginn for punt and kick returns. Since Ginn is also their #1 WR, it is quite likely that they will have Bess return some kicks to give him a break.

The Dolphins used Ginn sparingly as a returner in the exhibition season because they wanted to experiment with others, but Sparano has stressed special teams is a phase of the game the Dolphins “must win” to be successful.

Rookie receiver Davone Bess will serve as Ginn’s backup returner

  435. Garret September 5, 2008 5:13 pm

While Ginn Jr. wants his workload to remain the same, don’t be surprised if Patrick Cobbs handles the kickoffs, and rookie receiver Davone Bess gets a punt return or two in the opening game. The Dolphins are trying to preserve Ginn to help him run better routes. That indicates to me they view him as the No. 1 receiver.

While everyone in the world is praising rookies Bess and Donald Thomas for their surprising emergence during training camp, Sparano pointed out that one of his more pleasant surprises this offseason has been Patrick Cobbs, a guy I would have swore to you a month ago would be unemployed right now. But Cobbs, who doesn’t fit the Trifecta’s mold of an ideal tailback because of his limited size, busted his tail to stick with this team.

  436. Kira September 5, 2008 5:14 pm

Just incredible, Jojo. Same time too. We should get a prize just for doing THAT 🙂 .

    jm2375,

I would think that the better WAC schools would jump to the MWC if offered. Our top 4 is pretty solid; but I think the MWC is just stronger overall.

At the time of the breakup, I was not very happy with the MWC. They dumped us and left us hanging. But, I don’t hold grudges. And, we’re not doing too bad now. I’ll support whatever’s best for our school.

WASUP/BHG2: JDog posted this today but I am kind of surprise no one on the blog had commented on it!

The University of Hawai’i has denied two protests contesting the award of a contract for the resurfacing of UH Manoa’s Clarence T.C. Ching Athletic Complex (formerly known as Cooke Field).

The contract of $862,381 was awarded on August 13th to the lowest-bidder, RMY Construction, Inc., to install a new synthetic playing surface. Following the award, however, protests were received from the second-lowest bidder, CO-HA Builders, Inc., dba Applied Surface Technology and the fourth-lowest bidder, Ching’s Nursery, Inc. dba Service Contracting.

CO-HA Builders has subsequently requested a hearing with the State Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs on the University’s denial of CO-HA Builder’s protest.

Attorney William McCorriston has been retained by the University to handle this hearing and any other proceeding, including any court actions.

“We intend to aggressively pursue the completion of this project because of its importance to our campus and the community and because this is a great public-private partnership between the State Legislature, the Ching Foundation, and the University,” said Chancellor Virginia Hinshaw. The Legislature this session appropriated $1.2 million for the turf replacement project and the Ching Foundation is providing $5 million for the athletic complex.

“It’s important to resolve the legal obstacles to this matter as quickly as we possibly can so that we can move on and begin work on the project,” said Athletic Director Jim Donovan. “If we can do that, the new field would be ready this season and really help the football team, as well as such groups as the band and ROTC.”

In short, UH had now rejected the initial protest and CO-HA appealed it to DCCA. Both BHF2 and I had pointed out that UH could proceed despite the objections as it would be in the best interest of the State

Who actually thought I wouldn’t have a song ready before game time???
No offense to the local boys on Weber State especially THE BEAST, but “our name is our virtue”!
This one is to the tune of “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz and covered locally by Ten Feet. I like to think this tells the story of our Warriors starting with the Florida game to tomorrow night’s match up.
    “UH SCORES”
    (In Florida)
Well now we’ve done lost it and you bet we felt it
We tried to be better but they were so fast that we skidded
The plan fell through the cracks
and now we’re trying to get back
Before the mana done run out
We’ll be giving it our bestest
Nothing’s going to stop us but divine intervention
We reckon its again our turn to win some or learn some

We won’t hesitate no more, no more
    We cannot wait, UH SCORES!!!
    (onto Weber State)

We’ll open up field and pass freely
Open up the gaps and Satele will be free
With your heads in your laps you’ll feel a loss, loss, loss
Listen to the music of the moment people dance and sing,
“HAWAII FIVE O” is our thing.
It’s our God-forsaken right to have won won, won, and won

So we won’t hesitate no more, no more
    We cannot wait I’m sure
    There’s no need to instigate
    Weber State’s time is short
This is YOUR fate, UH SCORES!!!

You’ve been spending way too long checking the stats and the records
And bending over backwards just to try to stop it further
    But UH broke the glass,
And so MACK drew a blitz and laughed
I guess what I’m saying is there ain’t no better season
To rid ourselves of vanity and just go with the reasons
It’s what we aim to do
    Our name is our virtue

We won’t hesitate no more, no more
    We cannot wait we’re sure
    There’s no need to instigate
    Weber State’s time is short
This is YOUR fate, UH SCORES!!!

    Lil Mermaid,
    Glad you enjoyed it.

    Garret,
I wonder if SDSU is still planning to *bus* to their game with ASU? For a D1 program to do that would be embarassing!
I hope at the very least, they don’t take a YELLOW SCHOOL BUS!

    Kama Krab,
    Way to go!

    D1,

That was awesome! The beauty of youth is their innocence, not being jaded by the world yet. His message was clear and from the heart. A few of the teachers he addressed probably could use reminding about why they do, what they do. Most teachers that I encounter do realize the effect they have on their students, but to add, his children and grandchildren, priceless.

    WE ARE!!! TSAI-KOS

    tom mui,

Interesting that the fourth-lowest bidder also submitted a bid protest. It’s a waste of time and effort to submit a bid protest if you are that low, especially if you don’t challenge the second- and third-lowest bids.

Bad news from da neighbor- no kulolo… tsai…

  496. Garret September 5, 2008 9:26 pm

    Tom Mui,

I read the article but was refraining from commenting until I could get some other information. I had been trying to learn about the 4th lowest bidder and try to figure out why that company would file a protest also, especially when the 3rd highest bidder did not file a protest.

On the whole, I think that it is *good* news that UH decided it would just go ahead and award the contract. No matter what they decided they would probably have to deal with lawsuits, but at least this way the field will be done in time to be used this season.

  497. Garret September 5, 2008 9:29 pm

UH commit Corey Nielsen’s team won a close game today.

The Gahr at Millikan football opener Friday night was expected to be a game dominated by offense.

On a night when 63 points were scored and 515 passing yards were collected, that it was.

But it was a pair of critical defensive plays on the host Rams’ final two possessions that enabled the Gladiators to board the bus back to Cerritos with a 33-30 victory.

The Rams (7-4 a year ago with a loss to Crespi in the Pac-5 playoffs) went ahead, 30-27, on Hector Chavez’s 20-yard field goal with 39 seconds to go in the fourth quarter.

But Gahr quarterback Corey Nielsen, who overcame a sluggish third quarter in which he was picked off twice to complete 20 of 33 passes for 314 yards and all five of his team’s touchdowns, threw his third touchdown toss of the night to Aaron Bradley, this one covering 25 yards, one play into the final quarter for the go-ahead and final points.

    Tom and Garret:

The fourth-lowest bidder – or shall we say the highest bidder at more than $1.2 million – holds the “special” license C67FF. The issues are very complex in terms of whether or not the license is a temporary one pending a complex series of administrative procedures to make it a permanent one or if it stands on its own without going through the procedures.

Am waiting for BHF2 to return to confab with him. One or both of us will attend the hearing at DCCA.

Nah, will be in Kapaa in a couple of weeks.
I feel a little guilty about posting and running which I’ve been doing a lot of lately. I think I missed some stuff ’cause I see references but don’t know what the deal is. Sometimes when I start skimming, I can’t seem to put the brakes on the scroll button. Other times, gotta slam on the brakes and run. Good thing my finger doesn’t use gas.

You going to T-gate tomorrow? Can catch up then. If not, can I tempt you with some apple walnut coffeecake and beef bbq teriyaki sticks? I’ll watch the foot, promise.

    it pays to plead…..

i went to the rainbowtique this afternoon only to find the door locked because the volleyball tournament was happening. the supervisor comes to the door and says it is closed.

i tell him, “please i drove down here to buy a kid from maui a tshirt (with my most woeful eyes).”

he looks around cautiously and opens the door. within a minute someone else is knocking on the door. the sup is trying to tell the guy we are closed. i look out the glass door, lo and behold its stephen tsai.

i tell the supervisor, “oh please let him in he is with me.” door opens, tsai hands me the two weber st. tickets. life is good.

we both end up buying warrior apparel for the sons.

    Or is it forty-seven?
    Either way, he’s old

There once was a gal named Stretchette
The best wife a man could e’er net
    A woman so bold—

With a lopsided score like that, I would suggest sitting far from the Bulla Klan at the t-gate and sandbag your perimeter.

  529. Long Time UH Fan September 5, 2008 11:52 pm

    D1Shima,

Did you see that guy who gifted Farrington HS 6-figures for a new weight room. He said when he went back they were using the same weights he used 20 years ago and those were probably 20 years old then. He doesn’t own his own home but is a renter. He will be working on trying to raise the funds for a new stadium at FHS. Now that’s the kind of people we need who give back to the school or community! Too bad I missed his name when he was being interviewed.

Dis special license doesn’t improve da warranty from the manufacturer. So wat principal exactly is Sadowski trying fo push is to have dis special license be a requirement?

    wat time is tailgate today?

  548. Garret September 6, 2008 5:34 am

Looks like the judge preferred probation over jail for 4 of the 5 defendants in the Emery Kauanui Jr. case. The big trial will be in October.

Einhorn said he chose probation over prison because of the defendants’ lack of criminal history and their apparent ability to comply with the terms of probation.

A fifth defendant, Seth Cravens, 22, is scheduled to go to trial in October. If convicted of second-degree murder, he faces a possible prison sentence of 15 years to life.

  549. Garret September 6, 2008 5:37 am

Hi bighilofan2! I was holding back my comments on UH going ahead with the Cooke Field turf contract until you and Tom Mui commented, as you guys are the experts. I’m glad it seems like things are moving forward!

According to SteveM’s site, the tailgate will start at 11am.

  550. wafan September 6, 2008 5:52 am

    bhf2 . . .

Glad to see you made it back safe and sound. Now you will focus not only on the Warriors but on getting that darn field fixed and completed. Yahoo!

Are you coming out to Corvallis?

  551. bighilofan2 September 6, 2008 6:02 am

    Howzit and Thanks, Garrett!

Picture the Florida team. they’ve got a bunch of special peeps who are really fast. some are really big and fast. the ones that burned us, they were really fast.

now picture our DCCA hearings peeps. well meaning, doing the best they can. they’re gonna get smoked by the McCorristons and Holma types ah da world. They’re gonna spend weeks and weeks writing briefs on the “issues.”

the most encouraging words I read were from Mr. Donovan and Chancellor Hinshaw. They’re gonna speed this thing along.

to me, the words and phrases sure sounded like a separate track thing from the DCCA process. thats the best news I read. sure hope that was the message, cuz I’m all for the two track process. the legal, and the fix.

separate the legal from the fix, UH! now getta going. i had enuffa da Florida stuff. I like us get much much betta right now. enuffa da Slowbowski’s tinkin day doing us a favor, gotta play dem cuz day get rights. hooey on dare “rights”, give em one ah my leffs! i never felt so strongly about doze ideas as i do now, specially after watchin da SB and Fla wit my own 2 eyeZZ, an readin dat down South da high school peeps are playin in full pads an average ah 60 more times dan our high school guyz during spring ball.

An imagine da kine guyz/galz dat are tinkin we can do witout jv sports?

Das right. They grow up to become DCCA and Contractor Board type peeps. summa dem are nice, really nice. and good. an well meanin. but i no like dem be in charge, cuz we ain’t eva gonna catch Fla wit dem in charge. Das why I’m a 2 track type guy! I like us get national recognition. gonna take boat betta facilities and betta trainin for make betta playahz! an da bottom line: Slowbowski is in da way!

    nuff said.

    btw,

    good morning. 😀

  554. bighilofan2 September 6, 2008 6:27 am

I am really glad I went to Florida. Got to watch Florida Football with Urban Meyer. He spoke very highly of our Mr. Veikune! He also spoke very highly of his very fast team. And I read the Orlanda Sentinel daily, which spoke about all the high school teams in the area. And in Florida I watched a Cal game Carson/Mater Dei on tv. And the comercials on tv about University of Florida. Go Gators.

And all the time I wuz thinkin to myself, Sadowski’s protest would not have made the news. no foolin!
The field fix would have been a done deal before the public announcements. There would not have been a public flap over there.

My conclusion is that Mr. Dennis Sadowski and the Contractor’s Board, under the guidance of Dep. AG Rodney Tam, are an embarassment to the State of Hawaii. How many meetings have they had on the synthetic turf issue? How many times have they publicly noticed the entire new set of rules and regs that they are putting out there? By public notice, I mean notice to the State as put forth in a newspaper of general circulation? doing tings right da 1st time.

Now you understand what I mean when I chide peeps about our State being run by bozo da crowd. And somma yu r wondering why Linda wasn’t picked for VP? 😆 😆 😀

Good Gameday Morning Tsaikos and Tsaikettes!

    ST-

You gonna give us a new post?

  562. wafan September 6, 2008 7:14 am

So, over the summer while was visiting Hawai’i I decided to prepay my monthly bills. No problem.

Now, I am no financial whiz like Kazz. But, this just struck me as odd.

Yesterday I get a bill from Comcast for a whopping $0.03. That is correct. THREE cents. Sheesh! It is going to cost me $0.42 for postage, $0.02 for an envelope, $0.01 for a cheque (not to mention time to write the cheque, address the envelope, drop it in the mail collection box, pay the postal people, fuel their vehicles to deliver it, pay some poor schmuck to sort and deliver the mail at the payment center, and who knows what else), I have no idea how much for the bank to process the cheque, and I have no clue how much for Comcast to do the accounting and processing of the payment. Maybe it will cost $15+ after all is said and done just so Comcast can collect THREE CENTS!

This is almost as funny as the time Verizon sent me a bill for a penny.

Geez. I suppose it all adds up for them somewhere along the line.

  563. Stretch September 6, 2008 7:14 am

    OSU TICKETS

If anyone needs tickets for the game, please email me at stretch6592 at yahoo. There are 3 people who have a total of 7 extra tickets. I can put you in contact with each other.

  564. Stretch September 6, 2008 7:16 am

wafan – crappy part is that if you don’t pay it, there is probably a $25 late fee.

  565. wafan September 6, 2008 7:19 am

    Stretch . . .

Yep. The interesting part is the bill was actually only $0.02. The additional penny is for taxes.

At least Verizon did not add the taxes for the penny.

  566. brew808 September 6, 2008 7:19 am

wafan– That’s happened to me several times. My evil fix is to pay them a few cents more, so now you have a “credit”. Then sit back and see how many statements then send out showing the “credit” before they give up and send a check for “a few cents”! Haha! 😈 😯 😈

Hiya Addahknowsports – How ya doing? I read earlier that you’re more than “leadfooted” – but also “heavy handed”! Hehe!! 😀 😯 😆

  567. d1島: September 6, 2008 7:20 am

    wafan,
I know the feeling, received two statements from Straub for a total of about $0.15. Maybe the accounting office is run by adult versions of those freshmen you mentioned 😉
Reminds me of that Richard Pryor (?) movie about how he figured out how to skim all the “rounded” cents and amassed a fortune.

  568. koakane™ September 6, 2008 7:24 am

    GOOD MORNING TSAI-KO,S WHOOOOOOOOOOOTAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

    Morning/afternoon, Tsaiko-Nation and Tsai-Meister.

    GAMEDAY, YEEESSSS!!!

    bhf2,

Good to see you back with the same old infectious energy. Enjoyed meeting you in Orlando, too bad there wasn’t more time to talk with you. You had just arrived from a monsterous trip and were quite tired, but still, your energy was there, like a coiled spring.

Where are the A-Houses, still in Vegas or are they back yet?

This is a huge game for Hawaii today, have to agree with Ferd on that one. Hawaii is in charge of the outcome of this contest. They need a big game from everyone to get ready and confident for Oregon State.

  574. koakane™ September 6, 2008 7:30 am

I’m doing great this morning! Got up early and currently doing a little baking. I’m singing to my apples as we type.

About the “heavy handed-ness”……..yeah. According to Kekoa, it’s spreading to other appendages. Not a good thing for the Tsaiko social scene. And sorry, I didn’t mean to beat up on you on our trip. 😳

  576. d1島: September 6, 2008 7:33 am

Hi ya Liz! See you on the shoreline of Cabana A. (Sounds so Resortful)

  609. wafan September 6, 2008 8:20 am

    Interesting.

My last post has been turned into freed electrons. Yay!

    What happened?

All I said was “Hi, DPK!”

Ted ~ Watch for #50 to get some *PT* today wen USC takes full control in the 2nd half.

  612. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER September 6, 2008 8:22 am

    Hi Kekoa!
    yup!

PBS, cake, oysters, misoyaki butterfish… I not going eat breakfast…
ok. time to shut down and get on da road!

  613. FloridaTed September 6, 2008 8:22 am

    Hi, LizK,

A spiritual being in a physical experience (great). The physical world doesn’t seem to have much baring on you, you appear to be everywhere at any time, lol.

  614. Kekoa (Survivor-WB) September 6, 2008 8:27 am

FT ~ BTW…did you know that “Iron Mike” Garrett is the AD at USC, and has been since 1992? Abe – another USC legend is in the making!

  615. FloridaTed September 6, 2008 8:27 am

    Kekoa,

Either Ohio State is very arrogant or not that good at all. They look pretty weak right now against Ohio. If they lose this game, a lot of the USC games luster will be lost.

  616. Addahknowsports© September 6, 2008 8:30 am

Yeah Brew…and at 150 proof vanilla, I’ll set myself on fire at the same time. That’s okay, maybe by the time I reach the T-gate site, no need grill bbq sticks. Will be well done by then. Hehe.

  617. Garret September 6, 2008 8:32 am

    Kekoa,

USC might redshirt #50…in most cases, OL are better off redshirting to have an extra year in their college’s weight program before playing. I know that for over a decade the Texas OL would redshirt their freshman year unless the team lacked enough depth or had injuries and needed them to play right away.

I see it as a good sign that UH is redshirting so many of their recruits. That means that the Warriors finally have enough depth and can now look to strengthen the team for the future. If Paipai redshirts that would mean that UH is incredibly deep at LB!

  618. Da Punchbowl Kid September 6, 2008 8:35 am

I read some troubling news in another paper. It looks like Slobowski has struck again. Where’s BHF2? He needs to bust out da slippah!

  619. brew808 September 6, 2008 8:36 am

Addahknowsports – That would make you flaming hot! Hehe!

    …. besides, you’re already “well done”…. 😳 🙄 😆

  620. Thomas Mui September 6, 2008 8:36 am

WAFAN: They forgot! – The additional .01 charge will be forthcoming!

If they accept payment in their website, that may be a solution.

  621. Garret September 6, 2008 8:39 am

    DPK,

I didn’t read any news in the other paper about Sadowski! It this related to Cooke Field or some other issue?

  622. Addahknowsports© September 6, 2008 8:40 am

    Brew-

    Thanks!…I think.

  623. Garret September 6, 2008 8:43 am

Nice that Jesse Sapolu is being honored this way.

At every home game this season the 49ers will invite a former player to return to the field and serve as an Honorary Game Captain. This weekend, fans will get a chance to welcome back Jesse Sapolu prior to kickoff between the 49ers and the Cardinals.

Jesse Sapolu will always be remembered as one of the true greats in the history of the San Francisco 49ers. He was known as a quiet gentleman off the field, but on the field with the 49ers from 1983-97, he was an iron man.

But Sapolu wasn’t always the strong athlete that he portrayed on the football field. He spent much of his youth in hospitals and kept a heart condition secret for years. Banned from playing sports by his doctors at a young age, Sapolu persisted to chase his dream and eventually became a professional football player.

A product of the University of Hawaii, this 6-foot-4, 278-pound center/guard was originally selected by the Oakland Invaders in the 17th round of the 1983 USFL Draft, but chose to sign with the 49ers after being chosen in the 11th round of the NFL Draft the same year.

Once he arrived in San Francisco, he didn’t leave for another decade-and-a-half until retiring after the 1997 season. During his tenure with the 49ers, he served as the rock of the offensive line that protected both Joe Montana and Steve Young through four Super Bowl triumphs.
But in late 1996, Sapolu’s heart condition took a turn for the worse and he faced another huge challenge. His doctors recommended he choose one of two options: undergo a relatively new surgery called the Ross procedure or retire. Not one to ever quit, Sapolu chose to have the procedure.

The following fall, Sapolu returned to the 49ers once again to become the first active player in NFL history to undergo open-heart surgery and return from such a procedure to play successfully.

It may be time for a Tsaiko protest at the COHA workplace! 😈 😡 😈

  625. Garret September 6, 2008 8:45 am

I didn’t realize that Gov. Palin attended 2 colleges in Hawaii…though her times there were quite short.

Palin’s first stop, at the University of Hawaii in Hilo in 1982, didn’t last long, according to Johnson. Palin and three Wasilla friends who expected sunny skies were dismayed at Hilo’s rainy climate, Johnson said.

Palin then shifted to Hawaii Pacific College in sunnier Honolulu. She was enrolled full-time for a semester, school spokeswoman Crystale Lopez said.

Missing home, Palin transferred again to North Idaho College, a community college in Coeur d’Alene, near Sandpoint, where Palin was born.

  626. Da Punchbowl Kid September 6, 2008 8:46 am

    Garret-
Yep. It’s there. About “another” delay in field repairs.

  627. brew808 September 6, 2008 8:46 am

I will be there to cheer Jesse – AND Ulbrich, Sopoaga, and even LaBoy! But I’ll be cheering for our current Warriors first! 😆 😆 😆

  628. brew808 September 6, 2008 8:48 am

DPK tiptoes around the “smu” threshold… 😀

  629. Garret September 6, 2008 8:49 am

I just read the article–they are planning to having the case start on September 23. I hope that this doesn’t delay UH’s plans to move forward quickly with the turf fix.

  630. Thomas Mui September 6, 2008 8:50 am

    GARRET:

ON August 26th I sent the following (extracted) to Ms Lendio w/cc to Chancellor Hinshaw which was my read on the objections to the Cooke/Ching field contract.

“As you realize from the objections made for CO-HA, the objections was two-fold.

    (1) The Procurement Code required RMY to list a licensed specialty subcontractor in its bid.
    (2) RMY failed to list a licensed specialty subcontractor.

Addressing the first point, the attorney for CO-HA is correct in that RMY was required to obtain and list a properly licensed specialty contractor in its bid.

Addressing the second point, the attorney for CO-HA is totally off-base.

Sports Turf Hawaii (STH) was listed by RMY in its bid. Sports Hawaii is a registered trade name and in its attachment to the bid, HMY listed STH and the license number and classification code. Exhibit “C” attached to CO-HA shows that STH was a trade name, the name of the agent (Logan Hamocon) and CO-HA’s exhibit “D” again shows Logan Hamocon was an individual contractor with the trade name Sports Turf Hawaii. A search of the records shows that Mr. Hamocon has a valid contractors’ license as well as a C-27 (Landscape) specialty license.

It should be pointed out that a Landscape Specialty license had been approved by the Board for the purposes of laying down of synthetic turf. A search of the records will also show that there is no specialty license for synthetic turf.

While the Contractors Board had talked about synthetic turf as a specialized license, I direct your attention to Ms Verna Oda’s defense of the board in her statement in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin, dated August 7, 2008 where she gave the history of the installation where one of CO-HA principal, and a member of the Board, had concerns about the installation of synthetic turf back in September 2007 and October 2007, he was asked by the Chair to “review the wording of the board’s wording of the board’s landscape and turf classification. Her last paragraph of August 2008 in that article was that: “the matter is still the subject of public discussion…”

I would also point out that under HAR Section 3-126-3, a protest shall be made in writing to the chief procurement officer within five working days. The winning bid, as I understand it from the CO-HA letter was August 1, 2008. I realize that CO-HA will argue that it did not know the facts until much later but I submit that CO-HA should have known as they claim possession of the a synthetic turf license.

I would urge that 130D-707HRS is applicable and that the contract be ratified and affirmed as it is in the best interest of the State.”

Essentially, 130D-707 of the Revised Statutes says that if there is a objection, the contract still can be OK’d “in the best interest of the State”.

  631. brew808 September 6, 2008 8:52 am

So….. did I miss the notice for another hiatus for the WB… or could someone please awaken “sleeping beauty”! Yeah, I realize it’s the day before his 200th b-day, but his adoring fans need their sports nourishment! 😀 😯 😆

  632. wafan September 6, 2008 8:52 am

    Tom Mui . . .

The lowest amount I can submit for a payment on-line is $1. That means I will have a $0.97 balance with them. Eventually, they will send me a refund cheque that I will have to take to the bank. I wonder how much it will cost them to send out that cheque and how much it will cost for my bank to actually “deposit” it in my account.

    So weird.

  633. Da Punchbowl Kid September 6, 2008 8:56 am

    Brew-

Because of my status as a “special operative” for the WB, I am not subject to being SMU’D. 😉

  634. Garret September 6, 2008 8:56 am

    Tom Mui,

Thank you for posting that! It was especially interesting to read about the 5 working day deadline miss–that could really be bad for Sadowski and good for UH!

Cody Nakamura has a couple of quotes in the Deseret News today.

“I’m pretty excited about it,” Nakamura said. “I really want to win. I’m going over there for business. I’m not going over there for a little party or anything like that, a vacation. I really want to beat on them a little bit.”

The players are confident they can pull an Appalachian State — an FCS team beating a Football Bowl Subdivision team — and win this game.

“They’re the same size, the same quickness, the same speed,” Nakamura. “It’s all mental. If we do the things we’re supposed to like any other game, we should win. I’m excited. I can’t wait. I’m losing sleep.”

Aloha Stadium should have a strong Weber State presence tonight. Higgins’ father bought about 50 tickets to the game. Nakamura said his friends are bugging him for Weber State T-shirts so that they can “represent Weber State instead of Hawaii.”

  639. Garret September 6, 2008 9:03 am

Unlike Cody, Cameron Higgins isn’t so upset at UH.

Higgins doesn’t hold any grudges against the Warriors, though.

“I kind of wanted to go there, but I really just wanted to go where ever I could get a scholarship — take some of the financial troubles off my parents,” Higgins said. “I ended up here (at WSU) and luckily we’re playing them, so it worked out. It will be a great homecoming and it should be a fun experience.”
