UH lands two defensive players

Defensive end Quenton Brown of Eastern Arizona has signed a letter of intent with the Warriors. He is 6 feet 3 and 230 pounds.

Brown redshirted at Central Florida in 2010  before transferring to Central Florida. Head coach Norm Chow said Brown will have three years to play three seasons.

Defensive back Marrell Jackson of Miramar High in Miami made a verbal commitment to the Warriors, but is awaiting a parental signature for his binding letter.

Here’s Jackson highlight video: Jackson.

* * * * *

The first “Call the Coach” show with Norm Chow is scheduled for tonight and, if past public appearances are a measuring stick, then a large listenership is expected.

All of which leads to the football coach’s television show, whose rights are awarded on one-contracts. So far, nothing has been signed for the 2012 football season.

Hawaii News Now did a good job with the Coach Mack Show. The station sent a reporter on every road trip. The show was relatively fast paced.

But Oceanic, which owns the rights to UH sportscasts, should consider being a player. Oceanic has the means, but not enough live  programming to fill its UH channel (12).

With Chow’s current popularity, the coach’s show is now a valuable property.

    First?

    Good morning Tsaikos!

As a non-Oceanic subscriber, I vote for keeping it on a broadcast channel.

    Good morning ST.

Chowda is fast becoming a popular dish on the homelands. Had my 1st taste of the corn style last nite. Would have tasted better with Clam inside. Hehehe.

The old commercial was kind of corny

There is definately a high demand to here and see NC speak about the progress of the FB program. The viewership will grow, thus making internet feed slower…and slower…

No matter how bad I want to watch the streaming…I have a very hard time watching the feed stuck on ST and hearing only voices. It was nice when Layla Wai was assisting, because she was a good sight to see.

ST, please improve the live streaming of your show.

    Aloha

  14. Maleko808 February 7, 2012 6:13 am

I hope that the coach chow show is able to be seen on the mainland. It was so convenient to watch coach mac’s show on fox networks. I thought UH had made some progress in marketing their “product” and had built a lot of steam before losing traction after last season. Here’s to hoping.

Have a great day! Stay dry.

I just hope whatever company gets the coach’s show has up to date online streaming/archives. The streaming content of The Coach Mack Show on the Hawaii News Now website was never up to date.

    Morning All – BTW.

was reading da Marrell Jackson related comments on da board. He’s taking the ACT again. must be considering other options (ie UCLA, SEC) if his ACT goes up? what about his current ACT for UH, does he qualify academically?

and what ever happened to da Michigan guy Justin Turner?

It appears Memphis will join Boise State, SDSU, Houston and SMU in moving to the Big East in 2013:

    http://brett-mcmurphy.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/29532522/34739638

This is another blow to the potential MWC-CUSA alliance. Memphis leaving doesn’t hurt much in football but is a big loss in basketball and market-wise.

The taking of teams by the Big East from the Mountain West and Conference USA is reminiscent of the Mountin West poaching the teams from the WAC (twice). There seems to constant changes going on.

  48. Garret February 7, 2012 9:33 am

Re-post from the end of yesterday’s blog.

It is interesting that the Big 10 is now advocating for a 4-team playoff. The top 4 teams in the rankings (which means that BSU and TCU would have been in the playoffs while they were in the WAC and MWC) would make the playoffs, with the semifinal games played at the higher ranked school. Those 4 teams would not be eligible for BCS bowls, so this opens up 4 more spots in BCS bowl games. It seems like this would be significantly better for UH than the current system.

Sources told the Tribune that a Big Ten plan would remove the top four teams from the BCS bowl pool and have semifinal games played on the college campus of the higher seed. That would do away with the facade of “neutral” sites such as New Orleans, Miami and Pasadena, Calif., and ease travel concern for fans.

The championship game then could be bid out, like the Super Bowl.

Anyone planning/hoping to go to the UH-USC and/or UH-BYU games this September?

Please let me know at: stevem.hnl (at) gmail.com or post here on the blog. There are many independent or organized tour options (even one with an Alaska cruise) so I will start assembling names at the usual Away game logistics, tailgate and Cattle Call planner….

    http://home.roadrunner.com/~smurashi/tsai-kos/away12.html

Let me know even if tentative. Tsai-kos can see who else might be going (and how) and maybe can make travel plans together. A Mexico cruise is also possible out of Los Angeles the day after the USC game…if interested, maybe Garret or hawnstln will coordinate/assist.

i like the neutral site “facade” of bowl games. tv revenues make up for the travel.

management for the bowl event remains intact and consistent. not easy to plan a huge event with short notice.

by sticking the game on the higher-seeded team it tilts the contest. this smells like another power move by the bcs huns.

As more info from the latest basketball controversy pertaining to Trevor Wiseman’s indefinite suspension trickles-in, you have to marvel at the same time, that Joston Thomas has come full circle. It’s like a dog n pony show revealing itself in realtime.

It appears, Coach Gib may have his own version of reality college basketball. Where, head trips and immaturity too often occupy the script. We are not talking about athletes that must overcome overwhelming social hurdles or in the case of Kelly Majam, life threatening illness. No, we are talking about, well, growing up. One of the first lessons a 6-year old learns in T-ball, is how to spell TEAM without an “I”. Nearly every coach would echo that maxim throughout an expanded career.

So, alas, snooki and kim devotees should enjoy Hawaii’s latest reality episode on the hardwood….for Joston Thomas, he has put it behind and is progressing well….Trevor? stay tunned.

  62. Tanks Ah! February 7, 2012 11:36 am

Some fans will be happy… Go Coach Chow!

  63. Pauoa Boy February 7, 2012 11:42 am

Wiseman is going to be just fine… I don’t know why his minutes been going down cause he and Joston are not necessarily the same position. Joston is a PF and Trev a SF, although interchangeable. They should be on the court at the same time to tell you the truth. Having Vander, Joston, and Trev in there is more imposing then having Hauns in my opinion. Hauns can shoot but overall I think Trev is the better player doing all the little things to get the win. Both play hard but Trev is a straight hustle guy so not sure where the fall off is with Coach Gib. True the game is about team but when a guy like Wiseman goes all out on the court for the team, how is his minutes getting cut to the point he only played 2 the other night??? I dunno details but if I was Trev I’d be like WTF too…

  64. da808 February 7, 2012 11:49 am

Rumor: Thought I’d save my first post for good news. Of the three players that tripped last weekend, only Phillips has yet to send his LOI!

  65. hilorain February 7, 2012 11:51 am

didn’t Wiseman stay home during one of the road trips last year to work on his grades? could this be related to his studies? the release did say something about being a student.

  76. cake noodle February 7, 2012 12:24 pm

Noticed that Arnold has had an unusual number of problems with players leaving last year. Don’t know if it always is “I” or “me” problem with the players or Arnold’s need to mature in how he relates and handles players or a combination of both. Anybody have any insight?

  77. papajoe2 February 7, 2012 12:35 pm

#77 cake noodle, one of the guys that left last year just didn’t fit in with Hawaii’s lifestyle. On his tweets there were a huge amount of the “n” word and moth__ “f” words, so I wasn’t suprized this “gansta” left.

  78. papajoe2 February 7, 2012 12:42 pm

When I saw the videos of Trevor Wiseman when he committed to Hawaii last year, I thought, alright, we got ourselves a 6’7″ point guard. I never went to any practices or don’t pretend to know what is going on with the basketball team so I cannot comment on why Trevor is not a guard. I do absolutely love his hustle though. I think a guy like Trevor would have helped whatever team that he played for. He is one of my favorite players on the team, so I hope the issues are resolved soon.

  79. Stephen Tsai February 7, 2012 12:46 pm

  82. Bowwar February 7, 2012 12:49 pm

What ever happened to the JC guard last year that left after 3 games. And whatever happened to the player that filed the complaint on Arnold? I think the problem is somewhere in between…As I’ve told my daughter who plays soccer, there is only one “coach” and you play for him and the team. Don’t like the coach, then look for another team to play for…

It’s good training for life, as we face the same issues at work sometimes, so if you don’t like working for a boss, then find something else or suck it up…

  83. da808 February 7, 2012 12:49 pm

Don’t worry Jackson clan! Norm Chow and the UH ohana will do a good job looking after and supporting your son. He’ll receive excellent coaching, go to class and get his degree. And with UH playing in the MWC, you won’t have to fly all the way to Hawaii or even the west coast to see him play.

  106. backyard February 7, 2012 1:41 pm

That is an awesome caption. I am lamer than the most lame thing you can possibly think of and had to give up. This is why I do not do improv. But someday I will have ONE brilliant moment, which is why you must keep playing the game.

It’s interesting that both parents need to sign off on letters of intent. I understand that HS seniors may not all be 18, but it seems like college choice should be their decision. Even non-athletes choose schools to go to, apply, and choose from those that accept them. Wonder why athletes need parent permission?

  117. kev-1 February 7, 2012 2:37 pm

Is there any kind of liability attached to a scholarship for the athletes parents?

We are in the early stages of planning a fundraiser reception at the ESPN Zone

in LAX the night before the USC game. This is across from the hotel used by Panda for their guests on tour and in central LAX.

I will include more information as it becomes available.

The SDSU game has not been scheduled as of yet. We are looking to do a pre-game reception the night beofre or a lunch the day of the game. As it stands, the SDSU game could be late in the season and it could be windy and cold. We’ll have to see how everything pans out.

  164. slenzi February 7, 2012 6:07 pm

Sure hope we get DB Jackson from Miramar Florida. The SEC scouts all have him listed high on their charts. As the SEC and ACC teams see what they got on signing day, he may be a hot commodity. Hope his parents sign the letter soon. SEC will be offering mostly gray shirt, maybe red shirt, so if he gets a chance to compete as a frosh, then maybe that is the edge we need to get him – playing time.

  165. slenzi February 7, 2012 6:14 pm

Hey, maybe Sterling Jackson’s mom can go over and have coffee with Marrell Jackson’s mom. Is that allowed? Met his mom and dad in the stands at the LA Tech game. They had 60 family members wearing “Jackson” UH jerseys, and had their own section, front row on the 20 yard line. Seems like half were from Atlanta and half from Miami. Great Family!

  166. BigHiloFan2 February 7, 2012 6:14 pm

can’t get through. i’m hoping somebody asks him what he tells the parents of recruits from far away, how he plans to develop these young men into becoming the best they can be, how Hawaii will embrace them.

coaches goals: graduate school. learn life lessons along the way. chase championships, hard after winning games. try to work towards the big dream, making it to the nfl. try for nfl first., and if they can’t make it, then graduate.

    dis brudda is goood.

recruiting is hard work. read news papers. recruiting services. you dig. you find the young man you like. you bring back the tape, someone we ll like, then we make the call and we go from there. all governed by the rules that the ncaa sets.

    Bobby Curran: exciting times.

  190. Warrior Toa February 7, 2012 6:56 pm

And NO…..no one asked about Tebow.Bwahaha!!!

  191. braddahkeems February 7, 2012 6:56 pm

This is my opinion and I hope I don’t offend anyone and if I do, I’m sorry, but the questions people were asking on Call the coach, was so lame to me…It’s like I already knew what his answers were going to be on these questions they were asking…

I would’ve ask 1. What he grades this years recruiting and if there is a big difference in player quality he recruited for hawaii then the other colleges he worked at

    2. What’s the statues of Marrell Jackson and what might be the hold up if that player did choose hawaii

    3. Are we still waiting or looking on some other potential recruits this year

I don’t know, my questions might be lame to but those are some I would have asked…

Have a nice night everyone !!!!

  192. Warrior Toa February 7, 2012 7:03 pm

Fabian is that the kicker from Punnaho commit to UCLA?

  193. Ipu Man February 7, 2012 7:03 pm

Sheeesh! I googled UH 2012 football schedule and I get

3 different versions… Anyone know for SURE who we are

    playing and when?

  194. AllG February 7, 2012 7:04 pm

I liked our recruiting class before these three signed, but it wasn’t significantly better than Mack’s classes. But I think these three may end up being the gems of our class. These were absolute steals this late in the recruiting season. Much props to Kaumeyer!!

  195. BigHiloFan2 February 7, 2012 7:04 pm

    braddakeems.

you musta been frusted like me trying fo get 2961420 to ansa. doze are good questions at 192, i had samoa. like what you told da Quan fo get him to commit. what you told Marrell’s parents for get him excited? i know you musta told Quenton dat he get da attributes, and we got da scheme, to shine him onto da next level. i understand about getting da players to think about going all out, trying to get to da next level. i believe Coach Chow when he talks like dat, because he’s walked da talk.

and you right, da questions was kinda lame. but dat wasn’t Coach’s fault. maybe you should write to Mr. Curran. He’s gonna do this again.

  196. Warrior Toa February 7, 2012 7:05 pm

Oops misspell punch Bwahahahahaha Damn It.

  197. SAWARRIOR February 7, 2012 7:05 pm

  205. BigHiloFan2 February 7, 2012 7:14 pm

    da808

    not me. 😀

in fact, da question about da QBs was good, very good in fact. and Coach’s honest answers about he gotta check things out before he can evaluate anything was a right on answer. in other words, the questions and answers is what made the show great. plus BC neva talk about da Jets Giants. 😀

for me, I cannot wait for the next show.

maybe Oceanic and da kine should beef ova doing da tv show now.

Braddahkeems, all good, kind of a shock to get through. I like what he said about Taylor Graham, I think this kid could be awesome for us. Weighed in at 6 “5 242lbs. He may be the only one that can see over our massive new O-line come 2013!

  209. Bugaz February 7, 2012 7:20 pm

    Chatter now with Coach Chow

  210. braddahkeems February 7, 2012 7:22 pm

I’m watching Doomsday Preppers and I must say, this is a wake up call for everyone in USA…It is exactly what I’ve learned when I seen a commercial on television that told everyone to go on this site http://www.NewAmerica23.com

Very scary and it’s already happening, like buying gold and gas prices going up in America etc etc etc

  223. jm2375 February 7, 2012 7:50 pm

bhf2 – #223 – tell da Mrs. I know how she feels. Skins need, first and foremost, a new OWNER!

  224. da808 February 7, 2012 7:55 pm

As I said, I was at the UH VS Utah State game in Logan year before last. I sat on the Utah State side and there was a red headed Asian kid right behind me. We were the only 2 people in UH gear. I asked where he was from and he said he was from Idaho, but his Uncle was a Coach from Hawaii. Of course, he was NC’s nephew. I told him his uncle needed to come home, he just smiled and said, “yup!”

  225. BigHiloFan2 February 7, 2012 7:56 pm

    jmxxxx

da wife agrees. she says ever since he became owner da team went downhill. i said wat about Gibbs2? she hemmed and hawed… den she said he interferes and they ain’t kaka.

  237. da808 February 7, 2012 8:20 pm

The Utah State fans cleared out at Halftime as a cold rain moved in. Funny thing, all the UH fans stayed put, and the game was still close at that point. David Graves blocked a Kick, scored a TD, and the flood gates opened! Norm’s nephew and I sat and talked about Colt and how great it would be if Norm Chow ever became HC of UH. You just never what’s right around the corner!

  238. BigHiloFan2 February 7, 2012 8:28 pm

    238. good one. thanks for sharing. that was the game where the players were huddling from da cold driving rain, right? i rememba watching dat on TV. awesome game.

  239. BigHiloFan2 February 7, 2012 8:32 pm

Thom Kaumeyer is cranking on all cylinders for the D. he had a extra week, and he got some big time recruit extras. particularly Quenton Brown. and da Quan. and Marrell.

getting two speedy covers is gonna pay dividends for us. and for them. must be he also thinks these cats can make it to the next level big time.

    I am sooooooooooooooooooooo excitttteeeddddd!!!!!

Attended Eastern Arizona Junior College for one year…played in eight games and recorded 40 total tackles and eight sacks…also had two forced fumbles…named first-team all-Western States Football League and first-team all-Arizona Community College Athletic Conference…redshirted at Central Florida in 2010…

  248. krump1_AKA_protector February 8, 2012 12:18 am

Great show on Call the Coach; just gets me more jacked for the upcoming season. I expected Coach Kaumeyer to have a strong impact on shoring up the weak points of our D, but I didn’t expect he would have the added benefit of being a strong recruiter as well (especially in the deep South). Those Florida / Georgia type of connections bode well for the future. Awesome job, coaches. Let’s hope Jackson’s parents get with the program to let him become a Warrior!

Your thought is excellent; the issue is one thing that not enough individuals are speaking intelligently about. I’m very comfortable that I stumbled across this in my search for one thing relating to this.

It was a very good Call the Coach show! There’s so much to look forward to this coming FB season! Chow is very inspiring and articulate! BC kept saying “exciting times” and you know that’s what this coach brings to the table.

    Hawaii adds to 2012 class

    February, 8, 2012

    Feb 8 9:52AM ETEmailPrintComments0

Head coach Norm Chow and the Warriors have announced the signings of two more players toward their Class of 2012, according to a release on the school’s official site.

Three-star cornerback Ne’Quan Phillips (Miami/Southridge) inked with Hawaii. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound senior also received a scholarship offer from Florida Atlantic. He registered 60 tackles, two sacks and two interceptions last fall. Phillips is now the second highest-rated Hawaii signee according to ESPNU.

Joining Phillips is Eastern Arizona College defensive end Quenton Brown. He originally signed with Central Florida in 2010 out of Tucker (Ga.) High School and redshirted with the Knights that fall. Brown posted 40 tackles and eight sacks last season.

With these additions, Hawaii’s Class of 2012 has grown to 20. However, the Warriors may not be finished building. Multiple sources are reporting that safety Marrell Jackson (Miramar, Fla.) has committed and hopes to sign with Hawaii.

yup, life is good with Coaches on toppa tings.

  265. mo808 February 8, 2012 5:49 am

Good Morning All! Have a great day!

258 BHF2, I thought that was what you meant to say, thank you!

  266. BigHiloFan2 February 8, 2012 5:50 am

reading odda boards. Disappointed says Marrell would play closer to home if offered. Canes talking like… well i dunno.

now maybe mom waiting for the ACT.

anybody know when the ACT comes out this month? is it a nationwide scheduling deal?

  267. mo808 February 8, 2012 5:51 am

I hope Jackson signs on! 🙂

  268. BigHiloFan2 February 8, 2012 5:56 am

i dunno about deze computers. wen i was webbing Marrell Jackson, first had 14 sublinks.

das where i found da article above, in subsection 12. when i went back for finish off reading the next 3, no more, only get 10. was getting interesting, the other stories.

brudda Marrell could use help getting to the next level. and we got the coaches and the environment for Mr. Jackson to do it all good here. make his parents proud. make himself proud of himself.

  269. BigHiloFan2 February 8, 2012 5:59 am

    Marrell Jackson,

opportunity awaits you in Hawaii. for real!

c’mon, make like da Quan. and Quenton Brown. start getting your mind right,

    like now.

We got THE Coach. and he got backup! mark my words. we got Chowboys. 😀

  270. da808 February 8, 2012 6:12 am

BHF2, speaking of the Redskins, Used to love em! But after the way they did Colt, I got no love left. Mo808 and Liz will remember me as B&G808 from the Cult of Colt. The filth the fans would spew about the players was awful! I gotta believe if CB had been drafted by another team or come out as a Junior we would still be seeing him play. I hope our boy has his head straight and gets his Okole to Canada so we can see that magic again.

  271. d1shima February 8, 2012 6:23 am

    Great Morning All!

    howzit whitey!

  272. krump1_AKA_protector February 8, 2012 6:28 am

    da808 on # 271,

Totally agree with you on the shabby way Colt was treated. Just think if he had had a legitimate shot the same way Sanchez, Leinart, Flacco, etc had gotten. He would’ve shown he could leads the Jets to greater heights and ST would be beaming!

  273. da808 February 8, 2012 6:35 am

#273, When I watch some of the QB play in the NFL, I’m amazed CB is not on a roster somewhere!

Although I interviewed other candidates, Nick is the only one I offered this opportunity to. He has a good idea of our football tradition and I am confident his background and experience will add another element to our offense.”

    Rolo to Nevada????

  277. Lolouila February 8, 2012 7:10 am

    Yup ROLO to RENO!

  278. Pauoa Boy February 8, 2012 7:12 am

Quenton Brown is a beast and plays bigger than his 230lbs. indicate. I remember when AWC played against them. Eastern’s DLine was pretty good and Brown did stand out. I couldn’t remember who he was until I saw his highlight vid and it triggered my memory. Coach Chow is going to love this dude, he has a motor and is a relentless pass rusher. Dude got a little swag to him too which when he played against my A-Dub boys riled me up and kind of pissed us off but its all good. I’m glad Brown is on our team, he is going to bring alot of energy to the DLine garrans!

  281. Pauoa Boy February 8, 2012 7:25 am

    da808,

Colt was in a crappy situation with the Skins and Raiders. You figure Jason “Can’t throw for sh-t” Campbell was already established as the starter. Colt had no chance of unseating him in D.C. regardless of how he did in the preseason. He got buried on the depth chart cause you had Campbell, then you had an ancient but proven backup, and then Colt was hurt. So he sat, then Zorn comes in and tries to change up Colt a bit which altered his game a little, again he gets hurt. Zorn gets sh-t canned and then Colt goes to the Raiders. Figure great opportunity to have a chance, but nope what happens, they bring in Jason “Can’t throw for sh-t” Campbell which put Colt back to square one again. Then Colt gets into the unfortunate accident and teams are wary of picking up a 28-29 year old QB who hasn’t taken a snap in what 5-6 years already. The chance of Colt getting to the NFL at this stage is slim to none and will take a special situation for that to happen, which in my opinion is not happening. His best bet is to go up north and play in the CFL and establish himself like my man Chad Owens…

  282. mo808 February 8, 2012 7:26 am

    271. Howzit, da808 (aka B&G808)? Welcome to Tsaikoland! Wow, Rolo to Nevada? Thought he was headed to Mass…

  283. mo808 February 8, 2012 7:29 am

    282. Yeah, I hope he decides to go CFL …Chad is flourishing there!

  284. HawaiiMongoose February 8, 2012 7:29 am

Rolo to Nevada as Offensive Coordinator and QB coach??? I thought he was going to Maine. If true UH will be going up against him every year.

  285. HawaiiMongoose February 8, 2012 7:32 am

#285 – Correction, he was going to UMass.

  286. da808 February 8, 2012 7:34 am

Wassup mo808? I put the blogging on hold after Colt was cut by the Skins. Finally decided to throw my 2 cents in here, been reading for a while, but needed some motivation, like CHOW TIME!

  287. ai-eee-soos February 8, 2012 7:39 am

Hope Rolo gets BIGGER bucks from cheapskate UNR – I didn’t think that they paid well

    in the past.

  288. da808 February 8, 2012 7:39 am

    Pauoa Boy,

I could not have said it better!

  289. papajoe2 February 8, 2012 7:40 am

So what happens to the local boy who committed to Mass? I thought he went there because of Rolo. I can’t remember his name or position or even the high school that he went to. Out of sight out of mind. Its very cold here in Mililani, imagine Mass. at this time.

  290. tom mui February 8, 2012 7:42 am

    @291 papajoe2 – how soon they forget!

Matt Sparks – Punahou OL – think he was an All-Star.

Question: what happens to a guy like Matt when he follows a coach that recruited him and the coach transfers out almost immediately? Can he opt out?

    GOOD MORNING GOOD PEOPLE!

  291. ai-eee-soos February 8, 2012 7:48 am

Matt Sparks – Punahou OL – I think he should stay at UMass.

He has a scholarship, and UMass will be Div 1A in 2012.

  292. Chee Hoo February 8, 2012 7:51 am

#291 Looks like Sparks is stuck at UMASS. You sign with the school not the coach. He can opt out but he’ll need to sit out a year now if he wants financial aid (schollie).

  293. mo808 February 8, 2012 7:53 am

    288. Yeah! Been reading here long time too! The scoops are here from some very astute fans!

    291. Yeah, the Punahoe OL that Rolo was taking to UMass? I wonder what happen’s to him…

  294. mo808 February 8, 2012 7:54 am

    294. That’s a tough one!

  295. Bryson February 8, 2012 8:01 am

Maybe Ault also tabbed Rolo as a head coach in waiting….

  296. Shoko February 8, 2012 8:01 am

How much was Rolos getting paid while at UH?

  297. Shoko February 8, 2012 8:03 am

    Bryson,

Thats what they said about DC Andy Buh when he got hired, but that didn’t come to fruition when he left for Wisconsin.

  298. ai-eee-soos February 8, 2012 8:04 am

    # 298 – I think it was about $130 K.

  299. RZ February 8, 2012 8:05 am

I wonder if Sparks could seek a release from his LOI agreement with UMass. He has not enrolled yet so his clock hasn’t started? LOI is between the player and the school. But then I would not want to see him at Nevada. Rolo will help Nevadas passing game.

  300. Shoko February 8, 2012 8:07 am

Well, Nevada isn’t going to pay that much with Rolo’s contract. However, I think it will be near the six-figure mark.

  301. Benjamin Travis February 8, 2012 8:07 am

Extremely superior content. We basically discovered ones website in addition to desired to help state of which We have truly liked looking through ones webpage in addition to articles. Anyways I’ll possibly be following ones give in addition to When i wish to help study ones webpage once again.

  302. ai-eee-soos February 8, 2012 8:12 am

    # 302. That would be shame.

By contrast, Utah State gave Aranda the same money as UH had paid him – $130 K.

  303. graham February 8, 2012 8:15 am

To be honest I lost a lot of respect for Rolo. That is very dissappointing that he would bolt on a job he had for less than a month when a better job comes along. Feel bad for Starks. College football coaches are out of control

  304. Pauoa Boy February 8, 2012 8:15 am

Good luck to Coach Rolo, too bad we going to stomp the crap out of the Neva-dats and their version of the Spread/Pistol offense. It may have worked here in the islands but Coach Chow is going to put an end to all that and make the Neva-dats some Neva-was…

  305. tom mui February 8, 2012 8:19 am

Re: Matt Sparks – Reno is 36 degrees or so and Amherst is about 33 degrees today – no matter which place, it is going to be very cold in the winter and hot in the summer!

  306. ai-eee-soos February 8, 2012 8:19 am

If you follow both football hirings blogs, coaches are “committing” and “de-committing”

on job offers. This happens at all ALL levels – pros, Big Time colleges. & colleges at

    all other levels.

  307. Pauoa Boy February 8, 2012 8:20 am

So I was watching the highlight vids of our incoming recruits and man I’m hyped and can’t to see these guys on the field. We got some bangaz who can hit like an Iron Mike Uppercut to the jaw. But the thing I like about the hitting is they all wrap up and ensure the ball carrier goes down. I love that. No whiffs, just pure smash mouth fundamental tackling. Quan is an enforcer the way he hits, gonna bring back memories of Nate Jackson!

  308. tom mui February 8, 2012 8:21 am

In all fairness to Rolo, he does have a family to support.

  309. Kevin February 8, 2012 8:23 am

Ummm… college football has been out of control for the last few years.

  310. ai-eee-soos February 8, 2012 8:24 am

    # 310.

and Rolo will be closer to family.

Wife is from Maui. Rolo’s family is in Cali, in fact maybe in relative easy driving range.

  311. Kevin February 8, 2012 8:25 am

And likewise if someone jumped to our program after being hired by another a month ago, UH fans wouldnt find much fault with that.

  312. papajoe2 February 8, 2012 8:28 am

Don’t take it out on Rolo. Tommy Lee is what, 70 years old? You never know if Rolo comes back. I’m sure if there is an opening for a qb or offensive coordinator job in Hawaii, Rolo will apply. He’s just spreading his wings and learning new systems. Maybe the head coach at UMass wants to run the ball there.

  313. 3-Prong February 8, 2012 8:33 am

How would we feel if Chow left tomorrow to take a higher profile job? Did I hear correctly last night on the call the coach show that he loved his pro level experience and wouldn’t mind returning some day?

  314. Shoko February 8, 2012 8:33 am

One thing I thought about is Ault tends to micro-manage his assistants. There’s a good chance that he won’t have much play-calling duties. This just might be a learning experience more than anything.

I say good for Rolo. Dude has a young family and UNR is in a bigger spotlight than UMASS football.

College football = BIG $$$$ = dog eat dog. Eat now or you don’t and might never eat again.

Well, apparently Rolo has previous experience with that.

  323. Kaneohe Resident February 8, 2012 9:07 am

Even if Rolo has a family to feed, I think he should have more integrity when he KNOWS someone followed him to UMass from Hawaii. Life should always be more about values rather than money. In my opinion, the situation stinks.
