Crisp practice for the Warriors

The Warriors were clicking during today’s practice. (My car’s back tire, not so much, thanks to road work on the Pali. But I digress.)

The Warriors went for 2 hours today, focusing mostly on dealing with UCLA’s concepts. Most of the drills were between the top units and the scouts.

Nick Rolovich has addressed the issues with penalties and self-discipline, although he said the proof will be during the game.

I apologize for the short post, but I have to go fix my tire now.

Hey Coach Rolo, how about consequences for selfish actions? Somehow ingrained in humans is that we do what’s inspected, not what’s expected. Football players are humans too. Maybe if they get hit where it really hurts, like riding the pine.

So for personal fouls, retaliation and excessive celebration the offending player sits for perhaps a quarter or a half. This is after review of tape by coaches of course and incorporates interview with the offending player. Repeat offenders get their suspensions upped. Maybe 2nd or 3rd offenses equating to one game or multiple game sitting on the bench in street clothes? My opinion is that if you so call do the crime, you do the time. A 15 yard penalty hurts, it at the wrong time it can be a killer. Those that only think of themselves and not the team, should be part of the team.

Sorry, should read “not part of the team”

IMG to market, manage UH athletics sponsorship rights / by Andrew Gomes

A California-based marketing, talent management and events production firm will manage and market sponsorship rights for University of Hawaii athletics for the next 10 years.

UH Athletic director David Matlin announced the arrangement with Beverly Hills, Calif.-based IMG today.

Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.

Under the agreement, IMG will manage and market sponsorship rights associated with all UH Athletics Department programs.

“We are excited at establishing this partnership with IMG and the promise it holds for our student-athletes, our athletic programs, and our corporate partners,” Matlin said in the written announcement distributed to corporate partners of UH athletics.

IMG, once known as International Management Group, is a major player in marketing and licensing college brands. The company said it represents more than 200 collegiate institutions in multimedia rights, licensing, sponsorships, ticketing, publishing and seating. The company also stages live events and manages sports figures and fashion icons.

*** Finally got some pros to handle the marketing. ***

West coast ties make Hawai’i more mainlanders. Marketing that puts Hawai’i in California and not local or American Samoa or in Tahiti. It works for California.

    Circling vultures.

For the longest time, Steely Dan’s second album “Countdown to Ecstacy” was out of print. You had to shell out forty dollars-plus for a new copy.

Now with the passing of Walter Becker, I can get a copy for $4.92 plus shipping.

This Hawaii team has the same never give up, come back to win and finish strong determination that they learned last season. We all see that they have the grit, fire, swag, pride and pull together as a team to close games. Just add a decrease in mental errors, unsportsmanlike, penalties and this Hawaii team can beat anyone.
