Butler receives NFL audition

Former UH defensive back Dejaun Butler has received — and accepted — an invitation to compete in the NFL’s veterans combine on March 24-25 in Tampa.

About 100 players with pro experience will participate in the invitation-only event.

“I’ve been grinding, trying to stay focused, keep my foot on the gas,” Butler told the Warrior Beat.

Butler was not selected in the 2017 draft. And then things got hectic. He signed with the New Orleans Saints after a successful tryout, then was cut after three weeks of pre-season training. Soon after signing with the Dallas Cowboys, Butler made four second-half tackles in a preseason victory over the Indianapolis Colts.

Butler was one of the Cowboys’ final cuts ahead of the 2017 opener.

“It was a great experience,” Butler said of his NFL experience. “I worked my tail off. I was happy to make people proud. I’m ready to give it another shot. From here, it’s getting in the door again and taking advantage of it.”

I like Cole McDonald, Larry Tuileta and incoming frosh Chevan Cordeiro and Jeremy Moussa.
They all can scoot-n-run too. Naturally, release speed and shooting accuracy counts bigtime. Colt admitted that his first year as a starter he didnt know the offense, but his release and accuracy kept him in the game. His progress was geometrical from the opening USC contest to the wild flury towards the end against Boise State.
While McDonald is a physical specimen his accuracy and quick release looms as questionable in the short run.
Tuileta brings maturity and quantifiable athleticism yet his football hybernation and the instincs it carries may also become too big a stumling block to overcome. He has to be on a fast tract learning curve. LT hasnt taken major hits that highlights D1A football.
Cordeiro, has it all in place. The release, 60% accuracy, the system, the legs and insticts. The big question with Chevan, then, is he ready for college football and all its upgrades in speed and size.
Can a freshman provide valued leadership? That goes for Moussa too.
Im sure everyone has their own unique favorites. And until, August closes it summer door–fans will toss out more scenarios than the Warriors put the ball in the air.

    “A Brief History of Time”.

I want to go through a worm-hole and read a book, rather than live through this.

Good luck to mister Butler. It is now just a little over a week before the Warriors start practice. I think that the overall atmosphere will be completely different. Not saying anything about departed staff members but I think the energy level and enthusiasm will be markedly difference. As you well know fresh air is good! I am am very excited and quite sure some of the roster player preciously unknowns are going to emerge. I would love to make an optimistic projection but with so much change I m just going to stick with a scrappy tough performance where every game will be a battle much unlike some of the cave ins of the past. I do think there is a shot to have a winning record. The roster will be short handed in some spots in spring not unlike the past but that will give some guys a chance to prove they belong and can progress to contributors. Really look for the team leaders to emerge and some of the nonsense of the past to cease. It is incumbent upon the new staffs members to instill commitment and discipline to the team and the program and carrying forward the message of team above all else-I’m as mad as hell and I’m not gonna take it any more! GoWarriors!!!!!! Bring on the spring!!!!
