    Sign’em up!
    Go Warriors!

  2. Cheepono December 19, 2018 9:07 am

    Steven fiso?

  3. haka December 19, 2018 9:08 am

Looking for more d-line help down the road. And a couple of fast twitches too!

  4. haka December 19, 2018 9:13 am

Hope the JC guys make an impact. Schedule is very tough in 2019. We can compete with some immediate help to add to the very good returning core.
    Go Warriors!

  5. azwarrior22 December 19, 2018 9:14 am

Any more surprises? Any word on any transfers?

  6. Boolakanaka December 19, 2018 9:14 am

Looking good! ST, what’s the gossip on transfers—I know you have a couple of nuggets up your sleeve!?

  7. suckkabooya December 19, 2018 9:54 am

Perfect complimentary receivers to the Ward, Ursua and Byrd. Two YAC guys, one with power and one with “jet” speed. And a wideout who can get up field that would be hard to press cover. All bring a different dimension to the pass game. I just hope they don’t run five yard curl routes in RPO with Phillips (like with Byrd and Ursua). Looks to be a very nice recruiting class. Spring should be interesting. Awesome.

  8. Boolakanaka December 19, 2018 9:58 am

Just a FYI, Ursua will be gone, he is passing up his senior year and making a path to the draft…

  9. Andrew December 19, 2018 10:39 am

    11.

Considering his age, he needs to go. Don’t think he can wait any longer if he wants to pursue going pro

  10. suckkabooya December 19, 2018 10:45 am

Good luck and best wishes to Ursua. I thought Coach would talk him back in with so much possibilities for next year. He’s ready. He’s accomplished all he needs to at this level. Great playmaker. Dynamic. Going to miss him. Thank you for everything.

  11. AllG December 19, 2018 11:30 am

Didn’t we have another WR Grayshirting from Saint Francis?

  12. A-House December 19, 2018 11:38 am

17 signed leaving only 8 more scholarships left — any walk-ons who are good? — transfers must sit out a year so available in 2020

2019 signees — welcome to the UH football ohana — make your time count — study hard and stay qualified

John Ursua — job well done — all the best for you in the coming years!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. A-House December 19, 2018 11:40 am

let Genta play! lest Genta play!! let Genta play!!!

  14. Boolakanaka December 19, 2018 12:10 pm

Brah, the only thing you played was scrubbing the stairwell at KPT…

  15. A-House December 19, 2018 12:10 pm

is the “athlete” from Amercian Samoa signing in 2/2019?

    ST:

how U like the new street lights? shine inside the house? no need flash light to walk around — ours facing across the street — very bright, but our side “dark” — but, finally they installed on our side

  16. Boolakanaka December 19, 2018 12:23 pm

I grew up in a real public housing-Halawa!

  17. Sangamon Keith December 19, 2018 12:36 pm

#17 Don’t utter stupidities like that, Savich. Even McDonald knows that he’s not ready for the NFL … I’m not even certain is much more than a good D-1 quarterback. Usually, I don’t read your comments because they’ve been so idiotic … try to listen more since you have lots to learn.

  18. Boolakanaka December 19, 2018 2:33 pm

Please ST, pull this fool, so we can have adult discussions here…

  19. Maddog50 December 19, 2018 2:52 pm

    Boola you are soooooo right.

  20. haka December 19, 2018 3:40 pm

    Ditto

  21. Boolakanaka December 19, 2018 3:49 pm

Should be one of our most robust discussions days but we got to defer or go around some idiot savant …he is the reason why we can’t have nice things.

  22. turfwar December 19, 2018 4:08 pm

Looks like Am. Samoa Ath. Steven Fiso signed.

  23. suckkabooya December 19, 2018 4:13 pm

Lots of senior D-line next season (8) but got several redshirt freshmen (5) to counter as far as for 2020. DB’s will have (4) seniors next season as well. I’m not to sure about the depth (for 2020) at either of those position groups. May need to get more JC guys for there. 2019 seems set though. Every position seems deep, especially when combined with the JC guys in this class. Looks awesome on paper. Just got to make sure the development is on track. Build the program. So good now.

  24. H-Man December 19, 2018 4:21 pm

SDSU looking flat against Ohio; down 0-10 with seconds left in first half. 7 seconds left and Ohio scores TD on QB scamper. So score now Ohio 17-0. Hoping Aztecs rebound in 2nd half.

  25. suckkabooya December 19, 2018 4:24 pm

    Boolakanaka

You’re so right. This is the topic we’ve been dying to have a discussion and gather information on. Kind of got messed up (but still can recover) today. So waste time that guy. Too bad.

  26. Chicken Grease December 19, 2018 4:34 pm

Whew! Terrific. More than 10 recruited today.

Oh, wanted to let Savich (a regukar commenter here at Warrior Beat) here know that the Hawaii Bowl is scheduled for this weekend at the Aloha Stadium. The Rainbow Warriors of the University of Hawaii will be the visiting team and will the Louisiana Tech’ University (mascot Bulldogs). They have both qualified to play in this bowl. Not sure if any of island mayors will attend this event. Hawaii will win 42-30.

  27. NotNasti December 19, 2018 5:13 pm

Boola, He does not deserve the “savant” moniker. A learned person, intellectual, scholar? I think not. The first part, I concur.

  28. turfwar December 19, 2018 5:21 pm

Yup. SDSU not playing inspired ball at all.

  29. Da Punchbowl Kid December 19, 2018 5:24 pm

It’s just so sad that the Warriors are in the midst of their bowl week and new recruits are being added, and someone needs to ruin it for everybody!

I feel sorry for that someone (you know who you are) and want you to consider this – are you helping or hurting the UH football program by your remarks? Are you capable of understanding that question? If you don’t, I urge you to get help. And I mean that in nicest possible way. If you have any aloha for the program please take the advice of myself and others and support them in the best way possible.

  30. Da Punchbowl Kid December 19, 2018 5:25 pm

I like the look of this recruit class! Keep it coming!

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  31. SteveM December 19, 2018 5:37 pm

    The signees look good!

  32. Bowwar December 19, 2018 7:35 pm

Where is that SDSU athletic director? Tell us again how deserving your team is…The Aztecs stunk it up tonight..

  33. Inyoface December 19, 2018 8:52 pm

San Diego State looked horrible, I’m thinking their QB competition will be open in the spring.

  34. suckkabooya December 19, 2018 11:34 pm

I’m pretty sure the Aztecs couldn’t wait to end the season. Weird season. Lots of games could have went either way. Similar to UH’s season in a way in terms of high and low swings. Mountain West has to outdo AAC and become the premier Group of Five Conference next year. Got to do it.

  35. cappie the dog December 20, 2018 3:58 am

June Jones used to say that you can never have enough quarterbacks, but I think Hawaii does have enough quarterbacks.

    It’s a different era.

If the quarterback of your eye(isn’t it great that there is a controversy instead of having a starting QB by default) feels there is too much competition, that quarterback might bail. Not these two or three, in particular(I hear you, Jeremy Moussa fans), but it is known to happen. Not everybody is Ken Niumatalolo, who could have transferred and started somewhere else, but was a team guy and rode the pine.

  36. cappie the dog December 20, 2018 4:08 am

    27.

You mostly got it right. An idiot savant can be somebody who can, for example, play Rachmaninoff by ear, and yet have problems with simple math.

Somebody who is gifted in one thing and hopeless at everything else.

  37. Boolakanaka December 20, 2018 4:52 am

Cappie you are correct, I’m sure any freshmen coming-in, would have to take a long pause with our proverbial cupboard being filled with QBs, especially with the incumbent having two full years of eligibility in front of him, and his very promising backup having a full four years of eligibility. No one comes to be a backup for four years….

  38. Akamai Okole December 20, 2018 5:42 am

    Great Morning All!

    Great Lu’au last night.

Interesting to watch how different players interact with teammates/with their smart phones/with their fuud… 😆

…of course, once Chief Te’o starts his fire dance, all eyes shift to da stage!

  39. Akamai Okole December 20, 2018 5:44 am

    Welcome new Warriors!

Prolly one of the all-time most popular bowl opponents based on his reception last night will be Daniel Lewis…once a Warrior, always a Warrior (we’ll see how that holds up on Saturday though!)

  40. NorthShoreFan December 20, 2018 8:43 am

Waiting for more news of more new Warriors…
Turning out to be a good Christmas for our Warriors!

  42. hilorain December 20, 2018 10:17 am

Just a thought on having too many QBs. In the R&S, you need a lot of arms to throw to the receivers. If only the top line QBs made the throws, guys may go down with dead or injured arms. I think that have have been a issue for Cole this year, that;s a lot of “pitches” he must have thrown this year. 11 straight weeks without a rest?

  43. burro sabio December 20, 2018 10:45 am

Wassa matter DEAN? Where’s your daddy Fleegle? Do you miss me making you sound more foolish and disturbed than you actually are?

  44. burro sabio December 20, 2018 10:48 am

Dr. Bruce Anderson, one of your patients is using the computer at the nurse’s station again. Please return him to his straight-jacket.

  45. Chicken Grease December 20, 2018 11:21 am

Dancers. Someone wanna explain THIS one? St. Louis school. Apparent UH cheerleaders. D&Bs? Starring one Gorie.

  46. Derek December 20, 2018 11:24 am

Not sure how this recruiting class will turn out in the long run, but based on the early signing period it would appear that UH is short on defensive linemen. With 18 recruits accounted for already there’s only 7 more to give in February, unless Rolo gets more gray shirts and blue shirts. I think they need at least 2 more defensive linemen, another QB, a running back, a kicker/punter with emphasis on a strong leg, a CB, and a safety or another offensive lineman. It wouldn’t hurt to get a big receiver too. I saw for the first time this week, Xavier Ubosi from UAB. Never heard of him until now. What a stud. 6’3″, 215 lbs. wide receiver from California and speed galore. Scored 3 TDs and over 200 yards in only 7 catches. In my mind, he’s possibly a 2nd rounder in the draft, but no later than the 3rd or 4th round for sure. If he went to UAB he wasn’t highly recruited by the Power 5 conferences. That’s the kind of guy that Rolo and his coaches need to find. They are out there. Find them!!!

There has to be extra depth for QBs, RBs, and Receivers. These guys who handle the ball a lot get hit a lot and get hurt more easily than other positions. You can lose 2 or 3 guys at one position in one game.

burro sabio: If you live near Kahala, check out the film “Border”. Don’t read the plot synopsis, just go, and have a laugh.

  49. kahuna December 20, 2018 2:26 pm

UH have 18 players listed as DL. That is a lot. That is like 4 deep at the 4 spots and two extra. Yes, some are practice players are will never see the field but that is still a lot of bodies. Some who are listed as defensive ends can move inside when UH goes from a 4-3 to a 3-4 on certain situations…like Max Hendrie, Derrick Thomas, and Jonah Laulu.

We lose Zeno Choi and Tev Eldridge.

Inside, we will have Sam Akoteu, Eperone Moananu, Blessman Taala, Justus Tavai, Kendall Hune, Doug Russell,Makai Manuwai, and Foi Shaw will join the active roster next season. Max Hendrie come in on third down and plays one of the end spot on the 3-4

The ends we have Derrick Thomas, KK Padello, Kaimana Padello, Manly Williams, Jonah Welch, Jonah Laulu, Mason Mataafa, Zach Ritner.

I think that is a lot of players and I haven’t listed those who were down on the depth chart who could improve to a point where they could help,

I’m sure UH offered all the hot shot DLs in Hawaii like Paama and Tuitele but after that maybe Rolo doesn’t think other DL is worth the scholarship. Maybe wait for next year to find some that fit in better.

UH is kind of young in some spots too. Blessman is only a FR this season, Doug is a RS Freshman. Foi will be a RS freshman next season. Jonah Laulu a RS freshman.

I think our DL should be pretty good.

  50. burro sabio December 20, 2018 4:19 pm

CtD, the fields that I plow are very far from Kahala Mall.

  51. amela December 20, 2018 6:15 pm

You guys need to lay off Savich. He’s had some major head injuries in his younger days and hasn’t been able to recover. Maybe too many slaps or magic mushrooms.

  52. tommui December 20, 2018 7:02 pm

I remember the days back when many of us abandoned this blog because one person spoiled it for all of us.

I think history is repeating itself.
