Like those similar-themed movies that are released at the same time, Vander Waal and Chevan Cordeiro have a nearly identical storyline.
Similar but not the same.
> Change: Vander Waal replaced starter Sean Chambers, who was injured in the first series of the game. Cordeiro entered in the fourth quarter with UH trailing 28-13 with 11:55 to play.
> Late charge: Wyoming trailed 27-14 with 8:44 to play before scoring 21 points in the final five minutes. Cordeiro threw three touchdown passes and a two-point conversion in three possessions.
> The numbers: Vander Waal amassed 247 yards in total offense and four TDs — two on rushes, two on passes of 11 and 22 yards.Cordeiro’s TD passes covered 64, 20 and 68 yards. The 20-yard scoring pass, which was looped over three defenders and caught just in bounds by JoJo Ward, was the most on-point throw since Colt Brennan‘s bomb to Jason Rivers in the 2006 Hawaii Bowl.

So, was Cordeiro snubbed?

It doesn’t matter. With a Warrior angel soaring above and a saint on the field, the Warriors prevailed and Chevan was heaven! Go Warriors!

I’d say Lucky Chevan beats Vegas, but anyone who saw it knows, luck played no part the victory. In fact, the whole TEAM had a FANtastic quarter of WARRIOR play! From the offense to the defense to the special teams to the bench…DAS wat I’m talkin about! Go Warriors!
I say it’s up to Chevan and family if he wants to redshirt or not.
Don’t sleep on Cole. He has proven he has the skills and we need him moving forward. He is a tough competitor and he is as valuable as a starter or a backup.
Nonsense on issue of being snubbed. Both players brought there team’s through to victories. Stats favor Vander Waal … just different from Chevan’s. If situation was reversed, Wyoming fans would be complaining about snub.
UH is not a lock for the Hawaii Bowl for now. It could depend on winning vs SDSU this week.
There are 6 bowl eligible teams currently and only 5 MW contracted bowls. per bobby.
If the Warriors are qualified for a bowl game, as they are, and the MW doesn’t place them in it, then good luck on attendance cuz dis buggah going boycott dat one fo shuah en I ain’t goin be da only one.
Hawaii Bowl that is…
The defense stepped up big time on Saturday. Without them, the offense, and Chevan, would not have been in position to make their historic comeback. In my opinion, Penei Pavihi, Samuelu Akoteu, and Chevan Cordeiro were co-players of the game.
FYI Sagarin and ESPN ratings have Fresno State and Utah State rated ahead of UCF (McKenzie’s team)—mote poking holes into UCF claims to rating for top bowls.

The defense got the motor running downhill and the fourth down stops are permanently etched into my Warrior defensive stops greatest hits hall of fame! I totally lost my voice and mind on the second one as did our entire section. We needed it and they delivered. Belief is a powerful tool.
Think u need more playing time to be OPOTW. Chevan seemed to have more power in his throwing than in the Wyoming game.
UCF belongs in the playoffs more than any mid major. They have 2 perfect seasons so far, no on else can say that.
Hmmmm… This was the same freshman QB who BEAT the Cowboys? I’d say the snubbed thing is a moot point. We have Chevan. It’s all good!
If Hawaii is bowl eligible they are guaranteed a spot in the Hawaii bowl.
Forget the Mountain West and it’s player of the week selection. We should big looking at the Bigger Picture regarding College Football and National Recognition.
Yes, McKenzie Milton of UCF who thrashed Cincinnati 38 -13. A true Hawaii born QB that is recognized with Tua Tagovailoa at the National Level of College Football, but will never have a chance to play for the National Championship, because they are not a power 5 Conference Team and the politics involved with the selection committee. Enough said!

For next year better start looking for a more experienced OC. UH should have been blasting LV from the get go. Ridiculous play calling and lousy QB decisions. Best thing they did all year was to replace the QB. Also, the O line seemed to block better for
Chevan. Was that a signal?
Another blogger posted that we are actually 6-5 in terms of bowl eligibility ? because Duquesne doesn’t give out the required number of FCS scholarships ( they being a member of the NEC). So that UH win is not countable for the bowl eligibility.

UH will win over SDSU on Saturday — we will witness the resurgence of the “d” and the offense will have a great game!!! — always trust your intuition!!!
So, couple interesting things from this game. Again I’m not a coach and don’t pretend to know what they know.
The double switch of Nuuanu-Kuhiiki to RT, Levao from RT to C, and Tuulima to the bench helped shore up our RT slot and weakened us at C. Levao had repeated difficulties with his snaps, particularly as the game went on, and he wasn’t an improvement over Tuulima in blocking. I think he’s better inside because he struggles so much in space, but he still needs help from the Gs and cannot get to the second level. Just my honest opinion.
Glad to see Bethley getting more time. He’s really good at run support, maybe even better than Hicks, but not sure yet on his pass coverage. Bright future.
Want to see Paul Scott get more reps. Like Bethley, he seems very physical and aggressive.
While we are justifiably praising our D, let’s not forget Blessman Taala. He was dominant in the second half. He and Akoteu will be trouble next year.
Like everyone else, I am in awe of Cordeiro’s performance this week, but I’d still like to see Moussa get a long look in a meaningful game situation.
We’ll UH is a 17 pt dog! Sounds like CSU line? If anything, Cole M should have gotten a shock after being replaced by a freshman who won a game everyone thought w were going to lose. He might wake up and play better. Well if Nicky was doing the play calling he should give the responsibility to a real OC because he has been dismal.
The Hawaii Bowl charter says Hawaii is guaranteed the spot if bowl eligible, assuming wikipedia is correct.
According to Wikipedia, the “Hawaii Guarantee” is written into the charter of the Hawaii Bowl. Why the MWC tiptoe? Even if they had case to exclude Hawaii, it would not be a good move to anger E$PN.

Defense wins most games and the better team doesn’t always win games. The Team that plays best will win 90% of the time.
As for the starting QB, the COACHES WILL FIGURE IT OUT, THAT’S WHAT THEIR PAID TO DO.
If Hawaii brings their Best effort on “DEFENSE” THE OFFENSE WILL TAKE CARE OF ITSELF. Then we will see Hawaii prevail next Saturday.
1. The assumption is UH is guaranteed the Hawaii Bowl. It will be invited, but no, there is no guarantee of it according to the bylaws.
2. Duquesne counts. A team is allowed to count one FCS team toward bowl eligibility.
To #5 ST. How many potential quarterbacks?
33. The FCS win counts if the school gives out the required number of FCS scholarships required by the NCAA. But Duquesne may meet that requirement if you count their grants in aid to players according to some posters.
Just thinking out loud. 6 teams in the MWC qualify for bowl games, but only 5 bowl games for the MWC. What if Hawaii loses to SDSU and has the worst record of the 6 teams that qualify? Also the RPI ratings have Hawaii NOT wining any games against a team with a wining record (only a Div. 2 team). If Hawaii is selected and is not the better team record wise, what would the team that is left out of a bowl game say/do?
Also, I think that the best qb that can win vs SDSU should play regardless of redshirt or not. Did anyone ask Chevan? Anything can happen in the next game or even at practice like season/career ending injury, so why redshirt and hope he finishes the next 4 seasons? 8-5 sounds a lot better than 7-6. Solution: beat SDSU with the best available players and move onward. The future is not here yet, so no one knows what MAY happen in the next 4 years. Geeve ’em Warriors!!

I guess a lot of teams scheduled winnable non-conference games to make themselves bowl-eligible.
To many teams with .500 or .500+ winning percentages.
No 6-7 Georgia Tech playing USC this season.
The year Hawaii beat BYU 72-45, not going to a bowl game wasn’t that bad.
How do you top that?
This year is different.
Hawaii needs the bowl game for recruiting purposes. The BYU win was enough of an advertisement to consider the Warriors.

Because Central Florida is categorically denied entry into the playoffs by gentlemen’s agreement among the Power 5 schools, as a consolation prize, and again, another gentlemen’s agreement among the Power 5 schools, they cleared the decks for Central Florida by underrating Utah State.
The disparity in ranking between the College Playoff Poll and the two traditional polls is a scandal nobody is talking about.

Totally agree H-Man; Chevan should take all the first team snaps this week and start at SDSU; and let him decide if he wants to play in the Hawaii Bowl or not. The future is now!
In any sports, you got to ride with your HOT hand; and that is Chevan right now. We are riding the tidal wave of Momentum (with our defense also feeling it, and FANS) so we need to keep it going at SDSU!

Cordeiro was QB at SLS between Mariota and Tagovailoa.
Lit up Gorman when they played preseason (for HC Matt Wright) when current UNLV HC T. Sanchez brought his then-juggernaut team in to face the less than stellar defense of Wright’s Crusader squad and outgunned them at Aloha.
Nonetheless, Sanchez was not happy that his stacked defense full of D1 prospects couldn’t hold back Cordeiro and the Crusader offense from reaching the EZ nearly at will in the 2nd half.
