Ryan Meskell, who kicked the game-winning field goal in the Warriors’ 44-41 victory over San Jose State, has been named the Mountain West’s special teams player of the week.

Meskell connected on the decisive 35-yard field goal in the fifth overtime of the longest game in MW history.

Meskell, a junior from Australia, also made field goals from 25 and 35 yards.

Another two weeks and the ‘Bows could be bowl eligible. How could folks not be excited?

    CONGRATS RYAN!

Did everyone see all the players coming up into the stands after the game–that was so exciting for all us diehard road warrior fans that spend their hard earned dollars to support the team all over the country! An ultimate experience that we fans will never forget! Everyone should join us and share those unforgettable moments! To see videos of this; go to our Facebook page: Hawaii Football Warrior Nation.

Go Warriors–do not take Wyoming lightly–gotta keep your foot on the gas pedal from start to finish!

Who needs tix for the Fresno St road game on Oct 27 sitting with Cole McDonald’s parents & friends on the 35 yard line behind our Warrior bench; so close you can almost touch the players–can’t beat this road game experience!

Also SDSU–Cole’s family has a group of 70 there.

1ST 3 GAMES — we could see the smooth workings of the QB – WR connection

from game 4 — it began to unravel — passes short or too long — I throw this way, but you went dat way — OL, in the late 3rd and 4th quarters staring to allow penetration and dump McDonald

    can be fixed?

will we see the Arkansas big guy at RB? 6′ 4″ and 225 #s

  10. Inyoface October 1, 2018 7:54 am

I honestly didn’t think we were going to pull it off, it seemed San Jose had the momentum in OT, glad it finally has gone on our way. I don’t think teams should be granted a timeout after the first OT series, it most likely would be used to ice the kicker and drag out the game even longer.

  11. Andrew October 1, 2018 8:13 am

I thought it was for sure over after SJSU had the ball on the 12 yard line with a chip shot field goal to win it. I still can’t believe that guy missed it

  12. NotNasti October 1, 2018 8:24 am

That poor kicker probably had his mind full of thoughts about what he needed to do. He’s not a bad kicker, his mind an nerves failed him. I compare field goal kicking to golf. Both golfers and kickers “pull” and “hook”, and “push” and “slice” their shots. As a sub-par golfer, I can tell you, the more I fill my mind with what I need to do before the shot, the worse the outcome is. When I see water, I tell myself, “whatever you do, don’t hit it in the water.” I swing, and my ball takes off directly into the water. Same thing for him. That, and he probably needs to do work on his abs.

  13. H-Man October 1, 2018 9:32 am

With remaining home games against Wyoming, Nevada, Utah St and UNLV on the schedule, I doubt that 30,000 fans will turn out. Not that these games won’t be exciting, but many will avoid the traffic and parking situation. Easier to stay home with a big screen and friends to enjoy the game.

  14. H-Man October 1, 2018 9:39 am

Maybe next season 30,000 fans/game achievable. UH and the Stadium Authority can start planning to improve the public parking situation and the concessions. I propose the Stadium Authority open discussions with the folks that operate the Okuhara food concession at the SSC. Their bento box is delicious and priced right. Plus these bento boxes are prepared in advance so the line would move a lot faster. Shucks, have two or three lines if needed.

  15. eMpTy October 1, 2018 10:08 am

ST – When are they going to change the schedule to show the away game times? Makes i hard to plan things when all you see is TBA.
    Go Warriors…

  16. Da Punchbowl Kid October 1, 2018 10:22 am

Good for Meskell, congrats to the Warriors!

If the Warriors work at improving play on all three sides of the ball they’ll keep it rolling. They’ve already shown the fight and unity needed to be great. Strive for perfection to arrive at perfection.

  17. winning October 1, 2018 10:30 am

Lucky we won. The 2 Kickers need a lot more practice. Wyoming should be a win-revenge game from last year’s debacle that started UH’s downfall. Also, Stadium Authority should be UH Stadium Authority-why are they separate? Politics? Guess the State is siphoning back the money it appropriates-doesn’t make any sense. Lets see what kind of game plan will be developed for defensive strategies for the R n Shoot! Lets see how they will adjust. 6-1 sounds good.

  18. SteveM October 1, 2018 10:34 am

I was just informed (and verified at ESPN) that the October 13 UH-BYU game will be televised on ESPN2 at 10:15 pm ET (4:15 Hawaii time)!

A great time slot! Looks like ESPN is noticing some interesting UH football!

  19. islandman October 1, 2018 10:47 am

    16. If it’s UH stadium authority , then UH would be responsible for managing and paying all operating, maintenance costs and for capital improvements

Parking and traffic? Please! I spend more time in traffic going and coming for a round of golf-just did. Been to Aloha stadium for two games Oregon State Norther Iowa I think 4 or 5 years ago. Believe me that’s not traffic-support a winner that consistently says-We doin it for the state!

  23. Stephen Tsai October 1, 2018 11:23 am

Yep, only UH-BYU game has a set time: 4:15 p.m. Hawaii.
Fresno State and San Diego State road games do not have set starting times yet.
    Bastards.
    lol.
This cuts into my casino time.

  24. HawaiiMongoose October 1, 2018 12:16 pm

That 4:15 p.m. HST start time is 8:15 p.m. in Provo, right? Wow, I don’t think the BYU fans will be too thrilled about that. Also that means it will be chilly at kickoff, probably 50-55 degrees, possibly lower. Hopefully we can still throw the rock effectively in cold weather.

  25. Derek October 1, 2018 12:20 pm

Offense scores enough points (most of the time)! If you want to win championships the defense needs to keep the score down, especially against good teams in the conference. UNLV, Nevada, Utah State, and Fresno St., especially have beenscoring a lot of points. Wyoming and San Diego St. not so much on offense, but their defense is pretty good. None of the rest of conference foes are a guarantee win for us, even at home. It’s not a realm of possibility the we could lose the next 7 games, including at BYU and end up 5-8. But, on any day, UH can also win each game, IF THEY PLAY WELL AS A COMPLETE TEAM. That’s the beauty of this year’s team. We have a chance to win. In Chow’s tenure, we pretty much knew we aren’t going to win and that was very difficult to handle. We fans, and more of them, are more optimistic about our team the way they play. They are very competitive. Go Warriors!

  26. fishnpoi October 1, 2018 1:55 pm

Wild n pupule game, but to much finger pointing on the field of play. QB n WR needs to have one Ho’oponopono and start playing as one again..

  27. NYUH October 1, 2018 2:44 pm

    Good on ya! Mate!

The defense has done the job every week. Good on you guys too!

  28. Savich October 1, 2018 3:45 pm

Offending some here: but if they take out $3.5 million dollars per season for operating expenses, from a guy who played sports before the Hawai’i islanders and in 1965? Now an executive, just him though signing bills and checks.

  29. Savich October 1, 2018 4:02 pm

Patch work on main concourse, section FF, cement is cracked. U might want to know this patch won’t work. Needed is an overhaul of a larger part. Duquesne game i saw it. It won’t work. UH should pay it? Or the politics like Ige, David.

  30. Stephen Tsai October 1, 2018 4:06 pm

Maybe it’s the jet lag, but it sounded like Savich is making a point of substance. I’m not sure what it is but it sounded somewhat reasonable.

  31. Savich October 1, 2018 4:22 pm

U might want to know if the Wyoming game hits 50,000 fans, this patch work is now a fix up or closed of section. FF MAIN CONCOURSE.

  32. Savich October 1, 2018 4:42 pm

It looks to me like they’re going to build a new stadium after all. Despite Cindy Luis comments on it. Too much cracks on the Aloha Stadium.

  33. Inyoface October 1, 2018 5:09 pm

I think they should rebuild the Aloha Stadium by quarter sections, it would still be usable during football season. They should still keep the loading ramps and main foundation surrounding it now.

Maybe we take a lesson from Army, because if opponents defenses are going to rush 3 and drop 8, if we blocked like them in style and effort, then we could run wild until the opponents got confused and passed them silly.

  38. tommui October 1, 2018 7:21 pm

Hawaii has other running backs we haven’t seen yet – the big freshman from Arkansas and M. Davis. E Dale showed some quickness and positives when he was in there. More interestingly is when will D Torres be used as a slot back? 240b slot back? Hook and ladder? Blocking for the smaller wide outs? Offense hasn’t looked sharp so need new wrinkles; coaches got to do better.

  46. seewhy October 1, 2018 11:57 pm

    #45 Casual Observer

Dakota Torres has already been used in a couple games so far. Lined up at slot for a play in the Rice game and dropped a pass. But made the crucial recovery when Rice onside kicked. Then caught a 1yd TD in the Duquesne game lined up as a tightend. Slipped behind coverage on a McDonald rollout to the right and was wide open for the grab. My guess he will be utilized more when we play more physical teams like BYU, SDSU, and Wyoming this weekend.

  47. suckkabooya October 2, 2018 12:51 am

    #45 Casual Observer

Add my name to your H-back bandwagon. Short yardage or ball control mode. Especially some punishing power YAC in the flats vs iso safety coverage. 2019 Wish list.

  48. cappie the dog October 2, 2018 4:04 am

BYU’s Friday night home game against Utah State should prove or disprove if their win against Wisconsin was or wasn’t an outlier.

I want the Cougars to prevail.

Hawaii needs to face a quality opponent and dispose of that quality opponent if they want to be on the fringe of being king of the “Group of Five”.

So I guess it behooves Hawaii fans to root for Brigham Young and Fresno State.

If Hawaii was 6-0, I would be rooting for Mackenzie Milton to fall flat on his face.

As of now, there is no reason to root against my 2010-current default teams: Navy, Georgia Tech and Central Florida.

    I begrudgingly root for Alabama.

This is probably just me. But I want Tua to succeed because in this political climate, it doesn’t hurt if somebody that looks like him is helping lift the Crimson Red to monolithic stature.

Anybody know how I can watch the Nick Rolovich show? I normally go to the station website two or three days after the game and catch it. Right now the only thing there is two games old-

  52. Maddog50 October 2, 2018 5:08 am

This weeks game is squarely on the shoulders of the OL. Not that it is needed but would not be surprised at some personnel shuffling. Wyoming’s front seven will game stunt and pressure. As far as the defense goes stop Nico Evans from tearing off chunks and pressure red-shirt freshman quarterback and you limit big gains. No matter how you look at it the offense will have to score at least 35 points to win this game. More importantly those self-inflicted penalties and special teams gaffs have to be eliminated. Just like last week another must win affair-GoWarriors!!!!!

  53. H-Man October 2, 2018 6:02 am

Maddog, I respect your insight and comments, but the parking situation at Aloha Stadium has changed drastically the past 4-5 years with the HRT taking over Kam Lot (West of Salt Lake Blvd) and the expansion of the VIP parking areas which now accounts for roughly 60% of the parking around Aloha Stadium. VIP parking per season in the designated VIP Mauka and Makai areas cost $325. The much smaller Koa Lot sells for $250 for the football season. These parking areas have designated entrance Gates 1 and 2. Public parking access is via Gates 3 and 4 via Kahuapaani St and Salt Lake Blvd; cost is $8/game/vehicle.

VIP parking, to my surprise, is managed by the H Club Athletic Fund. You can find this information on http://www.etickethawaii.com/Renewal/Pdf/Football/2018%20UH%20Football%20Parking%20Information.pdf

So, UH Athletics want to have their cake and eat it too. They want more fans, but limits public parking and stadium access. Your option is to purchase the VIP parking at $325 for six or seven home games.

This discourages your single-game fan interest because public parking is limited; very crowed. I stated above that public parking comprises 40% of all parking, but I am being extremely generous in this assessment. When looking at the color-coded map provided with season ticket renewals, I would guesstimate public parking is closer to 30% of all Aloha Stadium parking.

UH Athletics is responsible for this. But then to cry for more fans when they have a better team and season record…..can’t have your cake and eat it too. Choke on their VIP parking program.

And they can choke on the PPV program too. This is a UH Athletics decision.

  54. NotNasti October 2, 2018 8:53 am

I stopped tailgating when my kids got involved in sports. Too busy on Saturdays to head out early for parking. I caught TheBus, until that program ended, then paid for the Grayline shuttle from the Waikiki Shell. The only downside was that the bus would leave 30 min. after the final gun – no sooner. If you want to tailgate, get to the stadium early, as soon as the gates open – and carpool. The lower lot WILL sell out. If you can’t get there early, catch a bus/shuttle. I have since purchased the Inner Circle parking, leave my house around 5 pm, park right next to the gate and walk in just as the national anthem is being sung. My wife is happy with the parking situation. Happy wife . . .

  55. Inyoface October 2, 2018 9:31 am

Special team gonna need a lot of work this week. Can’t believe they jumped over the blockers on the punt like they did last year.

  56. Boolakanaka October 2, 2018 9:33 am

Hmmm, wondering how Dylan Collie is feeling about the football side of his transfer (as there are a variety of reasons to transfer including family and getting a graduate degree paid for). But after five games he has 7 catches for under 60 years and no TDS, meanwhile the Hawai’i receiving Corp is getting rich rich rich….aka bitcoin posse.

  61. haka October 2, 2018 10:39 am

Boolakanaka, regarding Dylan, it may be a wash for him as I don’t think he could have got the nod over Byrd anyway…or much playing time….and we know that other slot we have is pretty good also. He may have less catches if he stayed! It will be interesting when we get to Provo. He can have 300 yards as long as we get the win!

  62. Savich October 2, 2018 11:11 am

    Might lose in Provo, Utah.

  65. Maddog50 October 2, 2018 12:10 pm

H-Man I just want to see this program to get support-I realize I live in a major met area. Most of the time here to see any sporting event it’s about 3-4 hours travel time to and from if your lucky. Parking 20-40 unless you have a parking pass $7-10 dollar beers if you have the urge. These are Sox—Cubs generalities. Bears forget it. Hawaii has one team that is on a nationally prominent stage-no disrespect to other sports, but we’re talking outdoor venues of 20K plus. The UH admin is charged with finding 3k people they can get to the stadium. Let’s pretend 21-23 will show. Why 3K cause they won’t go solo! GoWarriors!!!!!

  66. tommui October 2, 2018 12:25 pm

When Aloha Stadium was being planned – yes, I am that old! – the planners knew there would not be enough parking in the stadium and was relying on off-site parking. If I recall, they figured only enough parking for about 20,000 people.

The site is still the same as before and the acreage has not changed. Parking is always going to be a problem unless the State builds double/triple/quadruple parking structures.-

  67. tommui October 2, 2018 12:27 pm

  68. haka October 2, 2018 1:08 pm

I wonder why Chicken Grease posted on Dave Reardon’s blog, disparaging remarks about ST and the posters here only to have that part of his post deleted? We are obviously not intelligent enough for him.

  69. Boolakanaka October 2, 2018 1:17 pm

I find him to be comical, but not in an entirely endearing way. Always chirping about putting this kid in here and there, always with a preference to Kalaepohaku grads. That’s fine as he might be a St. Louis graduate or a crusader wanna-be. That said, his comments reveal someone who never really played the game on a competitive level. Last I looked, and you can’t argue with binary facts, Cole leads the nation in passing in several different categories, we have two receivers in the top ten, and we are 5-1…..drop da mic and leave the stage,

Long live Da King ST, I think blogs should be fun and informative activities , but not at another person’s detriment or by taking down another person or writer….that’s just childish.

  70. Old School Dave October 2, 2018 2:11 pm

Garrett Gabriel waited 3 seasons before earning the starting QB position at UH (redshirted his freshmen year, saw some action in 87 with 3 other QBs, watched Warren Jones light it up in 88). He proved his worth in 89 and 90. Not sure if today’s youth (and fans) have that kind of patience in this quick, instant gratification type of mindset. Just saying.

You’re always going to have unhappy players, parents, friends, supporters. I remember back in 92, the WAC Championship season, when 4 UH players quit the team due to lack of playing time. Still, the team moved on.

    GO WARRIORS!! BEAT WYOMING!!

  71. Andrew October 2, 2018 2:39 pm

    70.

In my opinion, we can’t blame a player for wanting to move for more playing time. They only do have four years of eligibility whether its on the field or sitting on the bench. Sometimes they could have the skills to play but they’re just not in the right situation to do so.

  72. NotNasti October 2, 2018 2:44 pm

Mr. Grease is a troll, not the worst troll, but a troll nevertheless.

    Per Urban Dictionary:
In Internet slang, a troll (/troʊl, trɒl/) is a person who starts quarrels or upsets people on the Internet to distract and sow discord by posting inflammatory and digressive, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog) with the intent of provoking readers into displaying emotional responses and normalizing tangential discussion, whether for the troll’s amusement or a specific gain.

  73. Boolakanaka October 2, 2018 3:22 pm

Hmmmn, I have seen folks go both ways and have success. Paul Dombroski went away and got more playing time at Linfield and then off to the NFL. Peter Kim went to Alabama and endeared himself to the Bear and became a multi-millionaire. Tui left UCLA and came home and then spent over a decade with one of the greatest teams in NFL history. Kimo put away for poi for potatoes and then played in Super Bowl….works all kinds of ways.

  74. haka October 2, 2018 3:38 pm

Of Mr. Grease and the like, it’s a shame they feel the compelled to post like that. I guess it’s an artful skill in their minds. Oh well, that’s what makes the world go shizzle I guess. Nobodies perfect…we all have our flaws…but what the fizzle?

    Anyway,
    GO WARRIORS!
    Beat dem ‘boys!

  75. suckkabooya October 2, 2018 3:39 pm

I love the passion when you guys go at it with Chicken Grease. Gets interesting. He is a rapid responder who doesn’t really digest all the misery he causes, keeps firing away, to everybody. He just has a weird view of things, almost child like. He does fit the definition of a troll. Not the worst.

  76. haka October 2, 2018 4:25 pm

Some stay and some go. It really doesn’t matter. We have gotten our fair share of successful imports. For those that graduate and move on I say good on you! For those that seek greener pastures I say good on you! For those that seek a better fit I say good on you! In any case, getting a degree should always be the main objective. Not many make it to the show. Getting a degree is the ticket to the only show for most.
