Warriors reload at wideout
The Warriors have rebounded after it was ruled that wideouts Kalakaua Timoteo, Isaia Leeth and Karson Greeley did not meet the eligibility requirements to play this coming season.
Joseph “JoJo” Ward of Tyler College in Texas is the third wideout this week to announce his intent to join the Warriors for next week’s start of training camp. He follows John Johnson of Antelope Valley College and James Green III of Cathedral City High.
Similar to Johnson and Green, Ward will initially contend at wideout with the flexibility to be used in the slot. The three, at least according to reports, are faster than their predecessors.
Ward told the Star-Advertiser he has been timed at 4.41 seconds over 40 yards, sub-10.8 seconds over 100 meters, and 21.9 seconds over 200 meters. He said he is 5-10 and 175 pounds.
Baseball ‘Bows add three
Two days after receiving signed commitments from two multi-position players, the ‘Bows are welcoming back infielder Matt Campos, a former all-state shortstop from Iolani School. Campos told the Star-Advertisesr he is transferring from San Francisco, where he was an infielder/catcher the past two seasons. Campos also was a member of the Waipio team that won the U.S. title in the 2010 Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.
Earlier, Brennen Hancock, a first baseman/outfielder from Bellevue Community College, and Nathan Flores, a left-handed pitcher/outfielder from Santa Ana College, made signed pledges to play for the ‘Bows this coming season.
Hancock provides options for the ‘Bows, who lost left fielder Johnny Weeks and center fielder Dylan Vchulek to graduation. Right fielder Adam Fogel might move to center. Hancock can compete for playing time at the corner positions. Flores provides another arm with “plus” stuff to a staff that is always looking to add pitching.

And to all current and future football recruits, if a pinhead, slacker, stoner, out on Friday nights before game days (which answers many of the reasons why I rode the pine so much) coed chasing moke like Boolakanaka can get through school, so can you.
My basic outline for at least getting Cs, introduce yourself to the professor or TA, tell them you are a ball player and you will be seeking their assistance from time to time. Two, go to class. Three, go to class. Four, endeavor to do the readings at least half the time. Five, go to class. Six, show up for midterms and finals. Voila, you just passed….I even did this for second year year calculus in college, was no doubt the most dim-witted person in a class of wanna-be-engineers, and stroked out a very proud C minus.
The kid from Trinity in Texas will have no problems with UH academics…Trinity has the per capita of their student body accepted to Medical School than any other school in the US—or it at least did, in the past.

I don’t say this often when it comes to Hawaii recruits but it would not surprise me if Ward gets drafted or makes a practice squad one day. Just On a talent based perspective. I don’t know how good his hands are yet so it is a premature assessment but looks as talented as lot of the WRs June Jones used to bring in at smu. I think the last time I said it was for Marcus Kemp and Jgw and both made practice squad at least. So let’s hope I’m right again.. think Mataafa has a shot too.
3. He’s from Tyler Junior College, not Trinity.
Hard to do well in college classes, if you are a full-time athlete in football.
Not only attend classes, but you have to write papers and do homework. Hard to do those if you are at practice and other football related activities so many hours.
With so many receivers, maybe good idea to take another look at Karson Greeley at quarterback.
I will say this, Ward is certainly a more nuance and dynamic route runner. The item which cannot be answered until he actually sees D1 competition is his ability to create space and separation.
I think of Ursua, who is just a very fluid and natural athlete, but also has really underrated feel for coverage, especially zone packages, and he really showcases his former basketball career as he knows how to place in tight space. The drop-off between him, and say the Collie kid, was huge—they were in two distinct calibers of player.
IM …he bailed in the classroom I guess. I doubt he is coming back anyway…..even if he was academically sound. I do wonder if his head was into committing to playing here or he just came to be with his brother.
Whatever is the case, I wish him luck. Maybe now he can go find a JC program where he can play QB. He is a good size kid so somebody is going to give him a chance. Don’t think he fits into the RnS system at UH.
That makes sense, not sure why a person accepted and attending Trinity would transfer to UH, at least from an academics perspective….

I never played anything at UH except play acting as though I liked all my teachers. Worked for me. I regret not studying really hard. Knowledge is power.

I can’t stand watching RPO offenses, it seems so JV and boring. Hopefully Batoon will teach better tackle techniques, last year some of the tackle attempts were cringeworthy.

But in spring ball, you could see how simple sometimes is better.
Plus, I think people are going to be impressed with Batoon. He’s got that Aranda thinking-man thing about him. Just keep the Sharpies away from him. He also seems like the Aranda type who draws plays and ideas on walls, or whatever writing surface is handy.
Batoon has to be a step up from last year if not two. He had a great year last year at FAU.
14. NFL Eagles run some RPO and also UCF ? Not that boring.
UH was aggressive on defense last season at times, but sometimes got caught out position when doing that.
University of Hawai’i junior John Ursua has been named to the 2018 Biletnikoff Award Preseason Watch List as announced by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation. The award annually recognizes the outstanding receiver in college football.
This is the second straight year that Ursua is on the watch list. As a sophomore, he was an in-season addition to the watch list after a phenomenal start to the 2017 season.

Lots to digest with this recent influx of speed over last year’s receivers group. Ward’s video “pops” your eyes even more than Dalphe’s does. High amount of proficiency to go along with his speed. Unbelievable pick up. So good. All these new guys.
BTW. I really admired Kalei Greeley. She had this regal yet humble warmth about her that transcended her abilities as a player. I’m sure her brothers have those similar qualities. Good luck to all of them.

I’m guessing Rolovich probably won’t run the pure Run n Shoot. In “modern” offenses you may have to mix options in there. That’s why he was using the RPO in the past seasons.
