Former Warrior is living the dream

Nick Rolovich will be a guest instructor/speaker at today’s One Blood Football Mega Camp on the Azusa Pacific University campus.

The football camp has been sold out, although please-please-please requests might boost attendance to between 450 and 500 participants.

Ninety coaches from all NCAA levels will be participating.

Rolovich and APU head coach Victor Santa Cruz have a bond as former Warriors. They also co-hosted pro day on the APU campus this past March.

Santa Cruz was a UH linebacker from 1990 through the 1994 seasons. Entering his junior year, his father asked him about future plans.

“I very clearly told him I wanted to be a college football coach,” Santa Cruz recalled.

But after earning a degree in May 1995, Santa Cruz remembered, “I was a fool and said, ‘I’ve got to make some more money.’ I didn’t go into coaching right away, and I was miserable.”

Later, he said, “I took a job packing dog food at Petco and I coached high school football, and I was the happiest ever. I went back to what I knew my love was and my passion. That’s when things started getting in order. I’m a blessed man.”

You made mention of The Clash.

Not quite as cool as your younger brother name-checking The Misfits, but still cool.

The cover art for “London Calling” makes for a super-cool rock tee.

Green Day hasn’t recorded anything that is the equivalent of”Spanish Bombs” and “London’s Burning”. I was so surprised that Green Day got into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame before Roxy Music, Kraftwerk, The Cure, and Siouxsie and the Banshees.

    Kekai Rios should go.

    Maaki Yamazaki should go.

    Dylan Thomas should go.

You don’t want to be Jamie Aloy, who was drafted as a junior, but went undrafted as a senior.

Don’t see any of them as a top ten rounds draft pick. Stay in school and graduate, play for the bows. If they do well they will get drafted next year.

Reardon has been promoted to special-assignment reporter. He already has written extended pieces on the 2007 UH football team, concussions, and international players.
He has several projects in the works, some which transcend sports.
“Ferd” Lewis is now the Star-Advertiser’s lone sports columnist.

Billy Hull, who manages our paper’s Prep World site, also will oversee Warrior World.
There are plans to redesign and expand the content of our UH sports page.
And, of course, it still will be free. So there will be no need to cut-and-paste the stuff to other places.
Thanks all for your readership and loyalty.
