Warrior football: TV, Tuileta, No. 89

The Mountain West announced the Warriors’ national TV schedule for the 2018 season:

Aug. 25: At Colorado State — CBS Sports Network

Sept. 1: Navy — CBS Sports Network

Oct. 27 — At Fresno State — ESPN network

Nov. 24 — At San Diego State — ESPN network

> The announcement means the Warriors will open and close the season on the road and before a national audience.

> CBS Sports Network (not to be confused with regular CBS) claims to be available in 98 million homes.

> There has been no announcement on the plans for the road games against Army (Sept.8) and BYU (Oct. 13). Both independent schools own the TV rights to their games.

There was little rest time for Larry Tuileta, whose collegiate volleyball career ended with the snub from the NCAA tournament. Tuileta was back on the football field yesterday.

The past fall, Tuileta appeared to be bracketed with Cole Brownholtz at No. 3 behind Dru Brown and Cole McDonald. Brown and Brownholtz are no longer with the Warriors. Because of his volleyball concentration the past four months, Tuileta is trying to regain his throwing form while adjusting to the four-wide offense. McDonald, Jeremy Moussa and Justin Uahinui are in better quarterback shape than Tuileta, who has participated in only two of 13 spring practices.

Tuileta faces an interesting workload this summer. He is trying to balance the short term (being prepared for the 2018 football season) and long term (as one of the top 50 volleyball players in the country, he is a future Olympian). He will train with the U.S. national team this summer in Anaheim and (for a week) in Hawaii while also maintaining his football studies.

Sleep might not be an option in chasing two dreams.

Every practice No. 89 makes a big play. And after every big play, we ask each other, “Who’s No. 89 again?” while we unfold our roster sheets.

Receiver Jason-Matthew Sharsh is showing quickness, toughness and other ness-ness this spring. This spring, there are a lot of targets with Isaia Leeth, Marcus Armstrong-Brown, Devan Stubblefield, Karson Greeley, Eric Rooks, Davine Tullis, Cedric Byrd, Tristin Kamaka, Kumoko Noa, Sharsh …

    GOOD MORNING, HAWAII!

“Next Time, Lava Line”, this phrase is from the company owned by Jason-Matthew Sharsh’s parents. Father used to be a competitive longboarder and all around water man. Keep up the great work, Jason

    Drake Stallworth????

  5. Stephen Tsai April 25, 2018 8:52 am

    Stallworth is OK
Timoteo is working on some academic stuff this semester

  6. homegrownganj April 25, 2018 8:55 am

Kalakaua Timoteo hasn’t been present all spring. I would assume that he’s either off the team or suspended because I don’t think he’s even out there watching as someone who was injured would be. Sad though cuz he would have a chance to get the rock and compete for a wideout spot in this RunNShoot scheme.

Talented receivers make the RnS go bang bang! Thanks for the updates!

ST: How’s Dakota Torres doing ?

In one of your articles, you mentioned the “Power Slot” position.

Methinks Torres and Sharsh would make a good combo at

Power Slot, especially for run plays, and inside the Red Zone.

    GO WARRIORS !!!

I like all the stuff on the O-how bout flipping to the other side and some stuff on Ta ala and some defensive newcomers. Blessman was supposed to be a contributor this year. How’s it looking?

How’s Max Hendrie looking? Expecting big things from him this year

    Any injuries?

Looks like the secondary is deep and athletic. Mr. Tsai pointed out that the corners were the deepest unit this spring and the safeties have made a few big plays as well. With a nickel back in the base package, and the contrasting skillsets of all the available backs, the combinations should be interesting (especially when Time gets in the mix) and exciting to see. Very young too. Hopefully one (or more) of them can develop the game changing, big play (like Richard Torres, John Hardy-Tuliau, Mana Silva, or Eddie Klaneski) finesse ability that we haven’t had an opportunity to witness consistently lately. Batoon has options. Teach them well.Very nice indeed.

Watched interview of coach Logo. When asked about players to watch he mentioned, Taala, Choi, Epe and Max. He said Blessman was real strong.

  14. kahuna April 26, 2018 12:30 pm

Yeah..kind of disappointing that Logo named players who did not play much. I was hoping guys like Akoteu and Cole Carter rise to the top. They have been in the program for a long time and should be up on the depth chart. I’m also interested in the progress of Douglas Russell. Supposed to be a big time recruit when we landed him.

DL looks young and inexperienced if Akoteu and Carter does not emerge. Our DE is going to have to be the play makers since our interior is going to be young.

#13 – maybe Cole Carter was not mentioned because he is not on the spring roster. Even so, he has not played so what is wrong with the others being mentioned instead since someone needs to step up?

  16. burro sabio April 26, 2018 1:28 pm

From what I can tell, at the start of spring Cole Carter was still listed as #89.

Tuileta should chalk it up already. Should have come here instead of USC. Could have been starter. Classic case of small fish big pond.

Tui’s future is in volleyball, but his education is currently being paid for by football. Give him a break, how many other athletes can do 2 sports at the same time?

  26. suckkabooya April 27, 2018 9:12 am

As an athlete under a football scholarship Tui owes Coach Rolovich his best effort. In my opinion he needs to save himself physically for the National (Volleyball) Team though. But if he can push and tutor the younger quarterbacks his scholarship would be justified. With his familiarity with the progressions, he can be an asset in the film room and on the field. I hope he can compartmentalize and focus for the football team. He has a lot going on. Good for him.
