UH baseball plays alumni on Saturday

The baseball ‘Bows will offer a preview when they play the alumni in an exhibition tomorrow at Les Murakami Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. There is no admission fee.

Right-hander Jackson Rees will start for the ‘Bows, with a target of 90-95 pitches, or roughly six or seven innings. Rees has increased his velocity to 93 mph, while mixing a power sinker and cut slider. He also has altered his delivery from an over-the-top motion to three-quarters.

Matt Richardson, Jeremy Yelland and Brody Hagel-Pitt are grouped with Rees in this pitching schedule and available as relievers today.

“We’re going to put the real uniform on and play against somebody other than our regular practice, which our guys are probably tired of and ready to do something different,” UH coach Mike Trapasso said.

Because the exhibition is on the same day as what would be a regular practice, Trapasso said, “the goal, more than anything else, is to get another day of work in. And come out of it healthy.”

Although all the tables have been sold, there are tickets available for Sunday’s Baseball Grand Slam Celebration at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The event, which begins at 5:30 p.m., benefits the UH baseball program.

There will be live and silent auctions, entertainment by Imua, and dishes and refreshments from several restaurants and distributors.

Individual tickets are $100 each. For details, call 956-6247 or email baseball@hawaii.edu.

Because you’re draw. I’m not. If it were a 16 team double elimination tournament, you’re out cold. We just use formulas to figure the games and then brackets. See…

I played MLB, New York Yankees, 1992-2006. For sure.

Why don’t you move back to Kaua’i, so you can defend familiar faces?

Alumni game. Tomorrow. Because I didn’t know where Kaua’i was on the coordinate map. Truthfully.

    Sure.

Pretty cool that Jason Ross showed up to take some at bats today. Sam Spangler did a nice job on the mound along with Jared Arakawa.
