Rolo said he will be looking for JC OL in particular,

in his chat with Scott Robbs.

    Howzit Tsaikos!
    From yesterday:
    AllG December 22, 2017 1:57 pm
Yes biggest need area is CB for sure. Our corners got burned regularly last season and we are definitely lacking speed at the position. If we good land a JC similar to Ryan Mouton that would be huge!
    Mouton’s reply:
Hopefully this can happen and I would love to see us recruit Texas guys. I wouldn’t mind with helping out in anyway bc I know there is a lot of talent here

Here are the top JC corners, obviously most are spoken for, but hopefully we can crash the party…see:

  6. warriorsanddolphins December 22, 2017 3:33 pm

We were suppose to sign DJ Williams JC All American Cornerback but for some strange reason he decided last minute not to visit here and chose Utah State. Go figure that one out.

  7. Ipu Man December 22, 2017 3:56 pm

Utah State seems like a junior college next to
BYU and Utah…. So DJ Williams is going to feel
    at home 🙁

  8. winning December 22, 2017 4:02 pm

Hard to recruit D guys if no mo DC! LETS GO HAWAII !

  9. Sangamon Keith December 22, 2017 4:26 pm

#5 you linked to the wrong year … we’re in the 2018 recruiting year. To get correct info, just reset to 2018 instead of 2017.

  10. seewhy December 22, 2017 4:30 pm

    RE: #7

You mean the “JC” that shut us out 38 – 0?

  11. clyde December 22, 2017 4:30 pm

Did Rolo get a commitment from a DB. today?

Thanks, Dave. Curious as to whether it’s a verbal pledge or an early-signee.

  14. cappie the dog December 22, 2017 5:31 pm

    I overhyped the Arizona win.

    I feel like a propagandist.

    Arizona’s RPI is 317.

Playing the Wildcats actually hurt Hawaii’s own RPI.

  15. al December 22, 2017 6:13 pm

Well, there’s less than 6 hours left for the first ever early signing period.
Who will beat the dead line?

  16. H-Man December 22, 2017 6:29 pm

Our corners got beat often, but I wondered whether it was lack of talent-speed or coaching failure. Having separate coaches for corner and safety makes we wonder if they failed to get on the same page.

  17. al December 22, 2017 6:46 pm

A lot of the coverage breakdown can be attributed to a lack of pressure on the quarterback.
    Scheme is another.

  18. tom-warriornation December 22, 2017 8:33 pm

UH basketball live on ESPNU now! vs Miami.

  19. AllG December 22, 2017 9:47 pm

Scheme was part of the problem on defense but main problem at corner was the lack of talent. We have maybe one CB that we can trust on the current roster. JC much needed at that position.

  20. Stephen Tsai December 22, 2017 11:42 pm

    No.
UH did not sign a DB.
Don’t make me take away your buzzers.

  21. Akamai Okole December 23, 2017 5:16 am

    Great Morning All!

Great DB’s are often made “greater” by terrific pass rushers; conversely, good DB’s often get exposed by weak ones…

They all can count to 3.

    Das it

  22. Sangamon Keith December 23, 2017 5:47 am

#19 We have talent … we don’t have real game experience against more sophisticated D-1 passing offenses. Just remember we have mostly true freshmen and redshirt freshmen at cornerback. We also had less talented senior wideouts to practice against during the season. I’m not saying a talented corner from the JC ranks wouldn’t be welcomed, but give our kids a break. At least one was rated the 11th best prospect on the West Coast and had offers from several PAC 12 programs.

  23. Boolakanaka December 23, 2017 6:54 am

As to our corner play, as couple of comments— if you got a bit of talent and quicks, you understand the scheme and know where your help is, and also your opponent and where there tendencies and threats are coming from—you can consistently hold their receivers within 3 seconds or so.

Our problem was at times, lack of makeup speed, but more prevelant, not playing cohesively within the scheme, not channeling receivers to help and most importantly not protecting the inside. Especially with man schemes the ability to protect the intermediate and deep post is primary for the corner

  24. Coach DB December 23, 2017 9:14 am

We have a really good corner from cali with speed and quick’s that can catch the ball too, he was medical red shirted this season.
#20 Wilson will impress especially with press man and coverage skills, he led his conference in high school with picks his senior year as he played corner and receiver!
Of course we need more like him or develop the FIVE we got last year, the JC kid we got this season did not work out he looked small slow and lost!

  25. kev-1 December 23, 2017 1:13 pm

Gotta give credit to this year’s commits for sticking with the team, especially considering the coaching staff uncertainty. What do we have? 1/2 a staff?

  26. A-House December 23, 2017 1:50 pm

    legal buffs:

existing the Marine Corps Base today, a MP saw a violation, put his lights on and stops the vehicle beyond the base property

can the MP legally give a ticket off-base?

my bucket list number went down in 2017.

    1st: got to visit/stay at Foxwoods Hotel/Casino — waited over 15 years!

2nd: visited and watched a game an the new Yankee Stadium.

3rd: visited and watched UH at the Rose Bowl.

4th: visited Levi Stadium, home of the San Francisco 49er and watched them beat the Titans.

best part of Levi Stadium was not the fabulous tailgate at the Great America hall with all the tasty food, but the 49er Museum — had to wipe away all the cow webs for yester, back to 1948-1961, seeing statutes of YA Title, Joe “Jet” Perry, Matt Hazeltine (sp), Leo Nomelinni, 6’9″ Bob St Clair, Alley Op Owens, etc. cost us $10/person, but well worth it for any 49ers fan

within the stadium was this saying, “faithful then, faithful now” — the excitement among fans before, during, and after the game was our time to “bask in the sun shine” – feeling I have never encountered — and Niners were 3 and 11 — now 4 and 11.

  30. A-House December 23, 2017 2:07 pm

    sorry, should be 1948-1951.

  31. islandman December 23, 2017 2:27 pm

Army beat SDSU in the Armed Forces Bowl today, 42-35 but it was only 36-35 until the last play of the game.
Army did not punt and had the ball for 46 minutes. Penny ran wild but SDSU lost.
The Army Head Coach is Jeff Monken who got his start as a grad assistant under Paul Johnson at Hawaii, 1989-90.
Army finished at 10-3 for the season, only the 2nd 10 win season in their history and they play Hawaii next season. Have defeated Navy two years in a row.

  32. tom-warriornation December 23, 2017 5:16 pm

UH Basketball live again tonight on ESPNU vs Davidson at 9:30pm PST.

  33. cappie the dog December 23, 2017 5:33 pm

I am such a strong advocate of triple option football and yet I didn’t have the guts to choose Army in the “blackout” game I’m participating with my co-workers.

    Kicking myself right now.

The Paul Johnson tree keeps growing.

Ten wins for Army is crazy.

  34. al December 23, 2017 5:58 pm

    A house
As long as the crime/ infraction occurred on the Fed property the Marine has jurisdiction .

    Go get em Devil Dog!:

    Devil Dogs 👿

    heheheh

  36. mauifarmdog December 23, 2017 7:27 pm

Signee number 16 is Derek Thomas

  37. kama krab December 23, 2017 9:58 pm

Nice to see that Derek Thomas is signed, sealed, and delivered. Now on to the O-Line and Defensive Backfield.

    Keep it going braddah Rolo.

  38. Derek December 23, 2017 10:56 pm

To me, QB, running backs, and receivers are only as good as top notch O Line!

  39. amela December 24, 2017 1:23 am

    Derek Thomas signed, awesome!

  40. Tom-warriornation December 24, 2017 6:47 am

Welcome Derek Thomas! You sound like an impact player—guys, what position does he play again? Today is my birthday!

  41. Boolakanaka December 24, 2017 7:11 am

Hoping John U., comes back to full health. He is our one legit threat going into next season and further he is the only receiver that attacks the ball. He reminds me of the receiver set of the falcons. Some of our guys, and it’s apparent, get tight, and don’t always have confidence in their hands and body catch…Ursua is the real deal.

  42. Ipu Man December 24, 2017 7:52 am

Wow, Toledo (11-3) did not score a single point
in its lost to Appalachian State (9-4) 30 to zero.
Wonder if Rolo knows Appalachian State Defensive
    Coordinator…
