  13. vballfan October 20, 2017 7:34 pm

I don’t think I see Janelle Gong on the sideline with the rest of the team.

  14. Cindy Luis October 20, 2017 7:35 pm

Maglio with her sixth kill, ends it 25-22.

    13. Gong has the flu. Not that she was going to play

  19. Cindy Luis October 20, 2017 7:54 pm

    Norene is a weapon

  23. Meefirst October 20, 2017 8:12 pm

    Along with Burns!

  24. Volleyball fan October 20, 2017 8:21 pm

So UCSB beat Long Beach for the very first time in Nicole Welch’s career. I was surprised to hear that. Cal Poly will have to watch out for Long Beach tomorrow night, a team that will desperately seek redemption. Of course, UH fans would love to see Long Beach upset Cal Poly which is entirely possible. Cal Poly almost lost the second set against Northridge tonight, but managed to pull out of a big hole with a big run at the end. Like UH, Cal Poly is a roller coaster team.

  25. Cindy Luis October 20, 2017 8:25 pm

UH up 15-11 at the TTO

  26. Cindy Luis October 20, 2017 8:29 pm

  27. Cindy Luis October 20, 2017 8:34 pm

Castillo with the kill. it’s 20-13. TO UCR
Sibley took I think a knee to the head from Kahakai a few plays ago. She’s on the bench but might be out tomorrow if they go with concussion protocol.

  28. warriorwahine October 20, 2017 8:39 pm

whatever happened to kendras stand and serve hit it over?

no need to jump and serve more aces that way.

  29. warriorwahine October 20, 2017 8:41 pm

    ekahi elua aloha

  30. Cindy Luis October 20, 2017 8:41 pm

    UH wins 25-18.

  31. Meefirst October 20, 2017 8:54 pm

Burns ends it! Way to go BOWS:)

  32. Kaimukian October 20, 2017 9:20 pm

Good game ‘Bows! Lets handle biz tmrw and prep for a tough road trip. Just a side note i think LBSU lost their middle from China and CSUN lost either a middle or outside hitter today due to landing injuries.

  33. Kaimukian October 20, 2017 9:22 pm

Also hope Sibley’s alright. It looked like Kahakai was running pretty hard when she caught Kirsten with her knee.

  34. rabbit ears October 20, 2017 9:31 pm

Surprised Howling did not play in the third.

  35. greenthumb October 20, 2017 9:44 pm

Tonight was fun to watch! Hopefully some of the things practiced tonight will sneak up on Cal Poly next weekend.

It also was good to see all that purple in support of awareness of domestic abuse. Had the sad situation of seeing some verbal stuff edge into the physical in a parking lot earlier today and the number of people who had eyes on until the cops got there seemed like a helpful deterrent.

Awareness matters. If those ribbons tonight just nudge people to think what they will do if they see a domestic-abuse situation unfold, that’s a benefit. So is being aware that resources are out there and carefully letting people who are in bad situations know there are trained, non-judgmental people ready to help.

  36. Ron October 20, 2017 9:55 pm

I would also liked to have seen Howling and/or Williams get some playing time for morale purposes. Burns deserves to start but I would like to see the “future stars” get some game experience. Sibley played well before she was hurt. The passing was better because of the Coaches use of the “smalls”. Also, the Coaches (or Noreens’) decision to set Emily more really paid off. We played some pretty good volleyball tonight but we will need to play a lot better to beat Cal Poly.

  37. Cindy Luis October 20, 2017 10:06 pm

agree about Howling not getting in.
Saw Sibley walking with Greeley after the match. She looked to be OK
19 kills was a career high for Maglio, and with 1 solo and 6 BA gaver her career high 23 points

  38. Ron October 21, 2017 6:20 am

“handling the broom and the boom”, great line!

  39. ignaciosaid October 21, 2017 6:33 am

It seems , a lot of my opinions are drawing ire , from other bloggers. Some say , the Wahine played a good game last night (are we watching the same game?). The Wahine (in almost every match), will lose focus at some time (players serving into the net , serving long missing defensive assignments , not communicating. Players are not covering areas and not covering the block. Missed serves , etc. can only be detrimental to the final outcome (example 2 weeks ago versus Poly)! Am waiting for the Wahine to play COMPLETE GAMES from start to finish . Do this and post season VERY , VERY POSSIBLE GO BOWS

  40. H-Man October 21, 2017 9:02 am

Did I see right? UCR had a 5-7 outside hitter. And hard to figure out how good the Wahine was because UCR was not very good on their side of the net.

  41. Connor October 21, 2017 9:42 am

Agree with you #39. Also baffled by S-A always putting granato photos on stories. Last night the player of the game was maglio. Her picture should have been used. The photographer and Cindy must be related to granato.

  42. Ron October 21, 2017 10:14 am

    # 39 I meant to say that they played well at times and if you failed to notice how well Emily played then we were watching two different games. Conner, you are usually better than that.

  43. islandman October 21, 2017 12:49 pm

    36. Robyn was saving Howling and/ or Williams for tonight vs. Fullerton.

  44. Bleachercoach October 21, 2017 1:29 pm

I really felt all along that Maglio was and still is the best path to any postseason. If she is one of the top 20 MB’s in the country then she should be getting a higher ratio of kill attempts than MG. Also I feel if you set her early and often with huge success , then the pins on both sides becomes harder to defend. It will soften up the defenders on MG, Castillo, Koelsch, and Sibley. Of course everything starts with a good pass..

  45. 2left October 21, 2017 2:08 pm

    33. If I took a knee from Kahakai like that, they’d be peeling me off the Taraflex with a spatula. Shows how tough these women are.

  46. ignaciosaid October 21, 2017 3:57 pm

have to agree with most , Emily is the heart and soul of team!!! Others have stepped up but need to be consistent. Since we now have 4 middles and another coming in next season , would like to see Sophia start at OPP (needs reps). She can terminate and would cause trouble against opponents LS (Koelsch good blocking sub but is not a true terminator)! Time to plan for next season , Robyn!!! GOOOO BOWWWS

    new thread up
Thanks Ron. always hard to come up with stuff on deadline

RE: photos. I have no say in what is run. The desk receives photos before my story is finished and sometimes before the match is done.
Don’t know what kind of photos they got so can’t tell you why any are chosen. Sometimes it depends on the layout, needing a vertical vs. a horizontal.
