4-star LB set to visit this weekend

It’s a big recruiting weekend for the Warriors. The Warrior Beat has learned that there are at least six players taking official visits this weekend.

> The NCAA allows each prospect to take up to five official visits. Solomon Tuliapupu, a 4-star linebacker from Mater Dei, is using one of those precious visits on Hawaii. Tuliapupu, who is 6-2 and 220 pounds, also is being pursued by Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon and USC.

> Rocky Katoanga is a 3-star linebacker from El Camino High in Oceanside, Calif. He has received several offers, including from Boise State.

> Chris Brown is a 6-1, 218-pound running back from El Camino. According to ESPN.com, Brown has received offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Boise State, Boston College, Iowa State, Oregon State, UCLA, Utah, Washington and Washington State.

> Michael Washington, a wideout from Monrovia High, has run 100 meters in a personal-best 10.85 seconds.

> Matt Lawson, a 6-2 and 290-pound d-tackle from Colony High in Ontario, Calif., has drawn interest from San Diego State and Fresno State.

> Jeremy Moussa, a 3-star quarterback from Roosevelt High(Corona, Calif.), already has committed to the Warriors. He is expected to graduate early and join the Warriors this spring.

Aloha young Warriors…and you old ones, too.

  2. H-Man September 29, 2017 7:46 am

I think the LB recruits will enjoy watching the Warrior defense in action. Same for RB Chris Brown as the Warriors find success running the ball into the heart of the Ram defense for a WIN !

A solid verbal commit from any one of the first three students mentioned would show how far Hawaii’s program has grown. Good luck to Hawaii this weekend, CSU 25 UH 31.

  4. Stephen Tsai September 29, 2017 8:48 am

I like the idea of having namesakes on the team. Chris Brown, Mike Washington … all UH needs is another Noga

  5. Akamai Okole September 29, 2017 10:04 am

    Great Morning All!

Narbonne HS put up a lot of points versus, arguably, one of the best HS defenses in the State last weekend.

Was there any interest in any of those offensive players?

  6. Akamai Okole September 29, 2017 10:22 am

I like the idea of having namesakes on the team. Chris Brown, Mike Washington …

    Anyone named, “Colt Brennan”? 😯 πŸ˜† 😈

    Das it

Nice job finding those names ST. With the new early Dec. signing period recruiting is already getting down to the nitty gritty. Some of these guys will sign early to secure their future.

  8. H-Man September 29, 2017 12:59 pm

    BUT…..
247sports’ prediction for Chris Brown – 100% Washington Huskies
247sports’ prediction for Rocky Katoanga – 100% Bose St
247sports on Solomon Tuliaupupu – 89% USC 11% Ohio St

Hope they have a great campus visit, but not holding my breath on the top three guys.

all I can say is, “dre-e-e-eam, dream, dream”; yep, no harm to dream! can’t fault coaches reach higher and higher!

from #8 above — a free trip to Hawaii!!! — with prep for CSU — how will UH players entertain visitors?

  10. Pukalani boy September 29, 2017 1:59 pm

Hope hawaii gets dbs and defensive ends…….

  11. z September 29, 2017 2:06 pm

Tsai I was thinking the same thing when I saw those names.

    I am a robot.

  12. seewhy September 29, 2017 2:52 pm

Hope Rolo and company have one hell of a sales pitch to get these guys to commit here.

  13. Warbow September 29, 2017 3:23 pm

The best recruiting tool that the coaches can give is a packed stadium. Get out there and help secure these recruits.

  14. seewhy September 29, 2017 3:34 pm

LOL we all know that’s not happening.

  15. tom September 29, 2017 4:27 pm

    GOOD AFTERNOON, HAWAII!

That Gonzaga graduate transfer, I was thinking about him when the Louisville basketball coach story broke. The point of his departure was playing time, but then he goes and signs with Virginia Commonwealth, a team akin to the Zags, instead of going to Florida International(or Hawaii) where considerable playing time is guaranteed.

I think, because of the current circumstances, Hawaii has a slightly better chance of snagging this 4-star recruit.

    We don’t have 100K.

Come for the beaches, young man.

  17. cappie the dog September 29, 2017 7:34 pm

I’m going to be a homer.

    Hawaii 21
    Colorado State 17

  18. kalua pig September 29, 2017 8:44 pm

i hope we get the two kids from el camino high school.

  19. What? September 29, 2017 10:29 pm

#8, Sounds like these players have committed somewhere else. What better way to get a free vacation to Hawaii?

Out if 5 official visits, spend one of the visits to Hawaii.

  20. What? September 29, 2017 10:37 pm

Sorry, didn’t see that one. JM the 3-star QB committed to Hawaii. Great job coaches.

Maybe the other recruits will follow?

  21. Whats up September 30, 2017 12:42 am

If the young men stop shot themselves in the foot and play clean disciplined football, they should win.
    Hawaii 34
    CSU 30

  22. Whats up September 30, 2017 1:06 am

I think the difference is June Jones (RnS) teams committed a lot penalties and gave up a lot of points but out scored with a fast break pass first offense. June Jones used the pass to open up the run or shovel pass. Chow (Pro Style) and Rolo (RPO) have a run first offense (Run to set up the pass) so it really shows in the win/loss column when you can’t overcome penalties like June Jones teams could. I miss that shovel pass and we are not using Tui Unga enough.

    from ST’s column …

The Rams have an accurate quarterback (Nick Stevens), two speedy wideouts (Michael Gallup, Olabisi Johnson), and experience on both sides of the line.

β€œI think this (CSU) team is very good,” Rolovich said. β€œIt’s one of the best in the conference, especially offensively. They have a lot of good receivers. That quarterback knows how to work within the offense. When it was Jan. 1 of this year, I’m sure Coach Bobo looked at all his returners at key positions, and said, β€˜This is our year.’ ”

  24. Coach DB September 30, 2017 6:35 am

*It’s unfortunate that these kids are using us for nothing more than a free trip to Hawaii. Our hope relies in our coaches developing 2 or 3 star kids that are pissed because of the under recruitment treatment they have experienced. That’s the reality of Hawaii football until the consistent winning begins,

*Rolo has them on the right track and knows what must be done. Time and winning will put this program back in the NATIONAL picture again. So hold on and enjoy the plane ride, although it might be a little bumpy!!!

  25. Coach DB September 30, 2017 6:40 am

*Also HOW ARE WE GONNA GET ANY PLAYERS TO COME – WHEN YOU CAN’T BE SEEN ON TV!!! C’MON MAN!!!

  26. WWF September 30, 2017 7:01 am

Recruit their girlfriends, and they will come.

  27. H-Man September 30, 2017 7:35 am

Build an on-campus and they will come. Well, maybe.

  28. H-Man September 30, 2017 7:36 am

    Oops, on-campus stadim

  29. al September 30, 2017 7:51 am

With comments like these…”coming here for vacations”, will this encourage these young men to consider Hawaii?

These pessimistic attitudes are really something we need. Like a hole in the head.
    …nuff said
