A couple of minutes with … Raphael Ieru

By Stephen Tsai on June 13, 2009

After enduring several injury-related setbacks the past few years, Raphael Ieru is poised to start at right guard in his senior season. Ieru, a McKinley High graduate, took a couple of minutes to answer questions from the Warrior Beat: Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello … “Everybody thought (Teenage Ninja Turtles is) where my name came from. It came from my uncle in Seattle. He has a long Samoan name. In the middle is Lafaele, which means Raphael. That’s where my mom got […]

Glanville on ‘Bama forfeit: “We’ll take it”

By Stephen Tsai on June 11, 2009

As part of NCAA sanctions, Alabama must forfeit unspecified victories in 2005, 2006, and 2007. It appears one of the overturned outcomes would be the Tide’s season-opening victory over UH in 2006. “Without question, we’ll take it,” said Portland State head coach Jerry Glanville, who was the Warriors’ defensive coordinator that year. “Once we get the official word, I’m going to throw a parade.” * * * On Mouse Davis’ retirement, Glanville said: “He got married. He got married at […]

What the heck

By Stephen Tsai on June 10, 2009

It’s summer (at least it feels like it), we’re restless, so we’re taking over. Here are the plans: • Make the UH Manoa students another offer. This time, in exchange for approving a student athletic fee, offer the students the first 10 rows on a sideline section at Aloha Stadium. The students will be closer to the action, and it won’t be much of a sacrifice for the university. First, you can’t see from that height and, second, those are […]

We’re giving away tickets to Pussycat Dolls concert

By Stephen Tsai on June 7, 2009

Thanks to the blog’s real boss (and the producer of the Warrior Beat Show) — Sandee Oshiro — we’re giving away two tickets to the Pussycat Dolls concert. We’ll announce the winner’s name on Tuesday’s show. How do you enter? Create your own lyrics to complete this line: When I grow up, I wanna … (Keep it clean. This is a family blog, and as a Farrington grad, Sandee’s toughness needs no explanation.) Good luck. * * * Luke Ingram […]
