By Stephen Tsai on April 6, 2010

Avis has selected Ahikatsu as winner of four tickets to Friday’s baseball game. Please text me at 256-0223 with the name to leave at Will Call. Thanks for playing. And happy belated birthday to Koakane. * * * * * Sorry, no show today. Blog host is meeting with his CPA. But we’ll have a live show for tomorrow’s practice, starting probably at about 8 a.m. (What? You thought I was actually going to show up on time?) At Leila’s […]

Satele, Letuli cleared to practice

By Stephen Tsai on April 5, 2010

Linebacker Brashton Satele and offensive tackle Laupepa Letuli have received special waivers that will allow them to practice. Both are seeking medical hardships that will enable to play as sixth-year seniors in 2010. * * * * * Another lively football practice this morning. • The Warriors have had a king-of-the-hill competition at quarterback this spring. Based on Saturday’s practice, the quarterback order today was: 1) Bryant Moniz. 2) Brent Rausch. 3) David Graves. 4) Shane Austin. 5) Cayman Shutter […]

McNabb to Redskins

By Stephen Tsai on April 4, 2010

ESPN is reporting that Donovan McNabb is being traded to the Washington Redskins. I actually think that puts Jason Campbell or Rex Grossman in greater jeopardy than Colt Brennan for a roster spot. No way Campbell or Grossman will kept as a No. 3 quarterback. I know this is an uncapped year, but it will be capped in 2011 (unless there’s a strike), so you don’t want too much payroll. Of course, if the Redskins also draft a quarterback … […]

DeMello leaving KITV

By Stephen Tsai on April 3, 2010

Word on the boulevard is that Rob DeMello, KITV’s weekend sports anchor, is leaving the ABC affiliate for a similar position at KHON. DeMello has developed into a top sports reporter. We wish him the best. * * * * * Today’s football practice (7 a.m. to 9 a.m.) comes with a PG-13 rating because of violent content. The Warriors will put on the pads, and there promises to be hitting. * * * * * We’ve got six tickets […]

Pros and cons

By Stephen Tsai on April 2, 2010

There was an interesting debate yesterday between a scout and a coach over the value of  a pro day. The scout had argued that the “grades are in” before the pro day. The coach argued that a standout pro day performance can boost a player’s stock, citing how Ryan Mouton was selected in the third round last year. The scout argued that teams knew Mouton could play from his work against Florida in the 2008 UH opener. The coach argued […]

Pro Day: Estes, Soares injured

By Stephen Tsai on April 1, 2010

John Estes and Blaze Soares both suffered hamstring injuries while running the 40-yard dash at today’s Pro Day in Carson, Calif. Estes said he “tweaked” his left hamstring in the final 10 yards. Soares said he he felt a “pop” in his right hamstring 10 yards into his run. Both had to cancel their participation in the pro-agility drill and T-drill. * * * * * Top results: Vertical jump: Daniel Libre — 36 1/2 Broad jump:  Daniel Libre — […]

Manoa makeover

By Stephen Tsai on March 29, 2010

Yep, the word on the boulevard was true. So adjust your lineup cards for these football coaching changes: • Nick Rolovich will be the offensive coordinator in charge of quarterbacks. • Ron Lee will be the assistant offensive coordinator working mostly with the receivers. • Dave Aranda will be the defensive coordinator in charge of linebackers. • Cal Lee will be the assistant head coach in charge of defensive ends. • Tony Tuioti will be an assistant coach in charge […]
