Offensive lineman Mike Milovale of Hartnell College has accepted a football offer from the Warrirors. He was raised in American Samoa, and was a high school teammate of UH running back Joey Iosefa. Lakalaka, Taliulu commit to Warriors

In statement-making moves, running back Steven Lakalaka of Punahou School and safety Taylor Taliulu of Kamehameha Schools “de-committed” on pledges to Pac-12 schools to accept scholarship offers from the Warriors. Lakalaka had made a commitment to UCLA; Taliulu was set to go to Washington State. Both told the Warrior Beat tonight they wanted to be part of a new tradition at UH. Island hopping

Plans are in the works for the Warriors to conduct a practice on Maui on March 24, a week after the start of  spring practice. The Warriors have had an outer-island trip in each of the previous three springs. They practiced on Maui in 2009, Kauai in 2010, and Hilo in 2012. * * * * * Happy birthday to A-Joe.

While the Warriors are making an aggressive pursuit of prep prospects, they also are  saving some room for “rebounds.” The Warriors have been successful in the past in gaining local players who went away to four-year schools and then decided to return home. The list includes Mark Tuinei, Clint Kuboyama, Lui Fuga, Laanui Correa, Wayne Hunter,  David Veikune, Kealoha Pilares, Mana Silva and Kaniela Tuipulotu.

Moleni is on board

Harold Moleni, a tight end from West Valley City, Utah, has finalized his oral commitment to the Warriors. Asked why he chose UH, Moleni said: “Norm Chow.” Moleni, 22, said he is 6 feet 3 and 235 pounds. His goal is to gain 15 pounds when he arrives in Hawaii in July. Mission Viejo High coach Bob Johnson said cornerback Anthony Pierce has made an oral commitment to the Warriors. Gov. Abercrombie made an unexpected appearance at today’s Pro Bow news conference, essentially issuing an apology for comments he made about the NFL all-star game several months ago.
