Cindy Luis covers University of Hawaii volleyball for the Star-Advertiser. She began her career as a sports journalist in Hawaii in 1981 with the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and was the sports editor, assistant sports editor, columnist and beat writer during a 31-year span before the paper became the Star-Advertiser. She graduated from UCLA in 1977 with a B.A. in Communication Studies.

Mini indoor tourney is March 9

This is the annual round-robin with the three DII schools and UH. It’s March 9 in Gym II starting at 8 a.m. UH, HPU, Chaminade and BYUH. Admission is free but there is no bleacher seating.

Spring match on March 15

The Hawaii i women’s volleyball team will host Texas Tech in a spring exhibition match on Friday, Mar. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center. Tickets for the match are $10 for adults, $6 for senior citizens (65+), and $4 for students ages 4-18. UH-Manoa students receive free admission with a valid UHM ID. Asked UH today about when ticket sales were going to be. Was told that they were working on that, as well as the exact date and time of the match. Not sure if it’s because sand volleyball was opening the morning of the 16th or it’s something to do with Texas Tech’s travel. Was told they’d know next week. No question a brutal road trip. Had to be demoralizing to be up 17-11 and 18-13  and lose Set 2. Might have been a lot different going into Set 3. Think they had no gas left in the tank.
