By Cindy Luis on August 14, 2014

Team had the morning off, went fairly long tonight. 330-620 isn More skill sessions. Felt like the team made some great strides from Sunday. The new players seem to be more comfortable out there, a little more relaxed, now that they know how things are set up. Someone had asked about certain people serving. in the mini scrimmages, they don’t always serve, a coach will toss a ball over on one side of the court and they’ll play from there. […]

Day IV, Practice II

By Cindy Luis on August 13, 2014

Former UH assistant and UCI coach Charlie Brande watching practice today. Always enjoy talking volleyball with him, and Chris McLachlin. We’re in agreement that the Wahine have made great strides from the first scrimmage to today’s. Very impressed with Koelsch’s blocking and setting, especially her connection with Magill. It’s not like Vorster, who tended to jump early at times and hit the ball as it was going up instead of on the downswing. Magill gets up quick and high, touches […]

Day III, Practice II

By Cindy Luis on August 12, 2014

Nothing real exciting as they continue to work in small groups and then scrimmage Higgins working with more of what you’d call the veterans in the final scrimmage with Adolpho, Magill. OHs rotating are Long. Passi and Manu-Olevao/ L/DSs switching out as well. Long continues to impress from 3-meter. Koelsch as well with her blocking. Kahakai looking good as is Mendoza. That’s about it for tonight. will check in after Wednesday morning.

Story for tomorrow will discuss what she plans to do for spring since she can’t partipate with the basketball team. Sand may be in her future. someone asked earlier about Gianna Guinasso, who was announced as part of Wong’s 2015 […]

By Cindy Luis on August 12, 2014

Charlie Wade parking as I was leaving the arena this morning. Saw on FB that he had been part of Rim Pac flight, got to land and take off from the USS Ronald Reagan so asked him about it. He spent a few days on the carrier and was impressed by our young service people. said he had a few meals with them and obviously had no problem talking to 18- to 22-year-olds since he does it all the time.
