Recovery

By Brian McInnis on December 6, 2010

The UH men’s basketball team got a well-deserved day off from practice today — they still had study hall — to recuperate from their two-game road trip. Up next for UH: Hawaii Pacific at the Stan Sheriff Center on Saturday. Rainbow Warriors coach Gib Arnold threw everyone a major curveball against BYU on Saturday with his starting lineup of Bobby Miles at the point, Bo Barnes at shooting guard and Trevor Wiseman at small forward to join regulars Joston Thomas […]

'Bows fall against BYU

By Brian McInnis on December 4, 2010

Credit Gib Arnold’s Rainbow Warriors for hanging around No. 21 BYU for as long as they did, especially while shooting such a poor percentage (30 percent). In the end, it was still a 78-57 loss at EnergySolutions Arena in Salt Lake City. UH did a respectable job of not allowing the Cougars’ star point guard, Jimmer Fredette, to dominate the game. But BYU’s depth was just too much to overcome as Jimmer’s teammates found themselves open from 3 far too […]

Good or no good? You decide.

By Brian McInnis on December 2, 2010

Was Chris O’Brien’s putback at the buzzer good in Cal Poly’s 54-53 win over Hawaii last night, or did the red light go off with the ball still in his hand? You decide. This news footage from KSBY looks like the best we have to go on. The referees were unable to consult any form of video replay. It’d be nice if they get some basic video monitors in there by the time Hawaii joins the Big West Conference — […]

Hawaii-Cal Poly game NOT free video streaming // Leahey with DHC again

By Brian McInnis on December 1, 2010

UPDATE: Looks like the Cal Poly game is not being streamed for free online by the Big West website, as advertised. That’s disappointing. The game is on KKEA, 1420-AM radio. ——— KHON-TV sports director Kanoa Leahey will reprise his role as play by play man on ESPNU in the second year of the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic, including UH’s opener against Florida State on Dec. 22. He’ll also handle the two consolation semifinal games. “It’s really exciting to be […]

Road update // Eyes on Diamond Head Classic

By Brian McInnis on November 29, 2010

The Hawaii men’s basketball team transitioned safely from Honolulu to San Luis Obispo, Calif., in preparation for its first road game of the season on Wednesday. UH (5-0) takes on Cal Poly (2-3) in a return game of last year’s BracketBusters event, won by the Mustangs in Honolulu. The game will be on KKEA, 1420-AM. The Rainbows arrived in Los Angeles early this morning then bused north for a little over 3 hours. The team had a weightlifting session upon […]

Salter out for road trip // Tinnin note

By Brian McInnis on November 28, 2010

Junior point guard Anthony Salter will not accompany the Rainbow Warriors on their two-game road trip against Cal Poly and No. 23 BYU. UH coach Gib Arnold confirmed Salter would not go late last night. The junior college transfer missed practices on Friday and Saturday because of personal issues. The team leaves late tonight for Los Angeles, then buses up to San Luis Obispo early tomorrow morning for Wednesday’s game at CP-SLO. ——— The UH women’s basketball team (4-1) is […]

Taking it old school

By Brian McInnis on November 27, 2010

Hawaii coach Gib Arnold wasn’t ready to call it a practice. The UH men’s basketball team started today’s session in Klum Gym, but the unbeaten Rainbow Warriors only had it until 12 noon, and Arnold wasn’t satisfied by the time they had to vacate. So the Rainbows picked up stakes to the old outdoor courts behind the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex. It was the team’s last practice before leaving tomorrow night for Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, Calif. The […]

Prepping for the road

By Brian McInnis on November 26, 2010

Hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving! After beating Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Wednesday, most of the 5-0 UH basketball team spent their turkey Thursday at coach Gib Arnold’s house. This morning, the Rainbow Warriors were back at practice  in preparation for their first road trip of the season. UH leaves for Cal Poly on Sunday night. They play Wednesday in San Luis Obispo — no easy place to get to. The team arrives in Los Angeles early Monday morning and must […]
