The latest winner is …

By Stephen Tsai on December 29, 2008

Jason! He gets two tickets (front-row, baby!!!) to Tuesday night’s finals. My bud Christie drew the winner’s name using chopsticks. The Bobbi Brown bag (as background) is proof of authenticity. Thanks again to Kinda Shy for providing the tickets, which I believe also include hospitality-room passes. * * * There’s a wire report that the Pro Bowl will be in Miami in 2010. Thoughts? * * * It’s been a pretty good year for former UH slotback Davone Bess. […]

And the winner is …

By Stephen Tsai on December 28, 2008

Al. He gets the two front-row seats to Monday’s Rainbow Classic games. Give me a call, and I’ll have the tickets left at Will Call. * * * The final episode of the best television show, “SportsNight,” was entitled, “Quo Vadimus” — Latin for “where are we going?” The English translation was asked (peppered with a little French) yesterday in, of all places, a church foyer. Two season-ticket holders who had a miserable Christmas Eve demanded answers. Because I’m a […]

Gerke leaves UH

By Stephen Tsai on December 27, 2008

Alex Gerke, who coached the UH running backs and offensive line, has accepted an assistant coach’s job at Utah State. UH head coach Greg McMackin said he will not fill the position until after the recruiting period ends in February.

Addaknowjoe wins the tickets

By Stephen Tsai on December 26, 2008

Through the generosity of a blogger who’s kinda shy, addaknowjoe is the winner of the two  (front row!!!) tickets for tomorrow’s Rainbow Classic games and two for Sunday’s games. Thank you everyone for participating. We’ll have another drawing Monday for the semis (also front row and center). * * * Belated happy birthday wishes to two of our regulars, SteveM and Chawan Cut. Both are great guys, and two of the key reasons for the growth of this blog. SteveM […]

Merry (?) Christmas

By Stephen Tsai on December 25, 2008

Not much to say after that one last night. * * * OK, maybe there are a few things. Repairing the pass protection is obviously the No. 1 priority entering the offseason. UH acknowledged a statistical miscalculation in the Washington State game — two more sacks should be credited — meaning the Warriors did indeed set the NCAA record for most sacks allowed in a season with 59.  Not good, but this could be partly written off because of the […]

Bowl day: Notre Dame

By Stephen Tsai on December 24, 2008

There was some drama yesterday when it appeared that a starting receiver was short the minimum credits the past semester to play in today’s bowl. After checking, it was discovered the grades were not inputted. The player, who is a good student, actually received straight Bs. The situation was corrected. Every UH player is academically eligible to participate. Give credit to Upper Campus and the UH academic advisers who were able to track grades quickly. The last final exams were […]

A walk to remember

By Stephen Tsai on December 23, 2008

Because Cooke/Ching field won’t be officially available until Jan. 12, or 19 days after the Warriors’ season ends, UH head coach Greg McMackin decided to allow his seniors a test run. The Warriors had a walk-through on their grass practice field. Then they went to Cooke/Ching to run one play on the new turf. It was a nice parting shot for the seniors who will never get to practice on Cooke/Ching. Here’s Laupepa Letuli: * * * Cornerback Jameel Dowling […]

Warriors … come out to play-ay!

By Stephen Tsai on December 22, 2008

Too bad games are not decided at banquets. The Warriors were named the unofficial winner of the chant-off at the Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl banquet. First, the Notre Dame players performed their victory chant. Then at the end of his speech,UH head coach Greg McMackin noted the Warriors had their own chant. McMackin flashed the shaka sign at defensive tackle Keala Watson, who led the Warriors in a rousing ha‘a. At one point, according to his wife, Watson knocked over two […]
