Cindy Luis covers University of Hawaii volleyball for the Star-Advertiser. She began her career as a sports journalist in Hawaii in 1981 with the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and was the sports editor, assistant sports editor, columnist and beat writer during a 31-year span before the paper became the Star-Advertiser. She graduated from UCLA in 1977 with a B.A. in Communication Studies.

Fisher named Top 5, 4 Warrior recruits on Fab 50

Hawaii Baptist’s Michael Fisher was named No. 5 among the top five players in the Class of 2103 and all four of the University of Hawaii signees made the Fab 50 list by Volleyball magazine.Fisher, a 6-foot-7 outside hitter, led Hawaii Baptist to its third consecutive Division II championship last month. U.S. rallies past France in 5

The United States took its third victory of the 2013 FIVB World League on Saturday, beating France 3-2 (22-25, 25-22, 24-26, 30-28, 15-9) at the Tulsa Convention Center Arena. The United States improved its record in Pool A to 3-1. France dropped to 0-4. Kawika Shoji set the entire match. He had five kills and two blocks. Erik Shoji again played the entire match at libero.

Argentina used tough serving and defense to defeat the U.S. Men’s National Volleyball Team, 25-18, 25-21, 22-25, 26-24 in the first match of the 2013 FIVB World League for both teams on Friday at Charles Koch Arena. Season tickets for the 2013 University of Hawai‘i Rainbow Wahine volleyball season will go on sale Monday, June 10.  Fans can purchase season tickets online, visit the Stan Sheriff Center box office (Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) or call (808) 944-2697 during the same hours.
