Cindy Luis covers University of Hawaii volleyball for the Star-Advertiser. She began her career as a sports journalist in Hawaii in 1981 with the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and was the sports editor, assistant sports editor, columnist and beat writer during a 31-year span before the paper became the Star-Advertiser. She graduated from UCLA in 1977 with a B.A. in Communication Studies.

Ah Mow-Santos named to WJNT staff

Congrats to Robyn Ah Mow-Santos, today named to the U.S. women’s junior national team that will compete at the NORCECA Women’s U-20 Continental Championship July 6-14 in Guatemala. Congrats to Wong family on baby boy

Dylan K. Wong born at 7:11 p.m. Tuesday to Tamar and Scott Wong. He was about 3 weeks early. They also have a daughter. Coach Wong has delayed his flight to California by a day, understandably. The team leaves this afternoon (Wednesday). they are traveling 12.. He’ll meet them Thursday. Wong said Nos.. 1, 2, 3 set. He has 4-6 teams set but not sure in spot they’ll play. It’s Urban-Chow, Riggs-Tucker, Higgins-Rooks.

Don’t know if it’s still the Big West Challenge not that it involves Irvine Valley. Duals Friday for Hawaii vs. The Beach, Cal Poly and IVC. Sounds like they’re still working on a pairs thing for Saturday. Cal Poly scheduled to go up the coast to Santa Monica for USC’s tournament Apologize for the wrong IVC schedule. didn’t notice it was 2013’s on the earlier thread  

Chance Big West Challenge not happening??

UH team came back from Hermosa today (Monday) Hearing that there is a chance the event may not happen this week, scheduled for Friday & Saturday at Hermosa Beach. If so, this will make for an interesting process for  the selection committee for the at-large team. Pretty much Pepperdine (13-1, lone loss to SC 4-1) and SC (17-1, lone loss to the Waves 5-0) are in. The at-large spot should be between Hawaii and The Beach. SandBows (15-3) have a […]

Not that it ever mattered, UH from 9th to 10th, traded spots with UCLA, which reflects the MPSF standings. Loyola-Chicago and Pepperdine stay 1-2, the Ramblers with 15 votes, Pepperdine with 2. Cook-Tiegs 3rd in gold, Spieler-Taylor 2nd in silver

It was the fourth time in five tournaments—including the second time in a USAV event this year—that Katie Spieler-Nikki Taylor reached a tournament final. For the fourth time this year, they fell to top-seeded Alexa Strange and Kelly Claes (USC) . Sunday it was 21-13, 14-21, 15-13. in the Silver Bracket 12th-seeded Ginger Long-Ali Long0 won a pair of matches to earn a place in the semifinals, where they were eventually knocked off by Strange and Claes in straight sets.
