Cindy Luis covers University of Hawaii volleyball for the Star-Advertiser. She began her career as a sports journalist in Hawaii in 1981 with the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and was the sports editor, assistant sports editor, columnist and beat writer during a 31-year span before the paper became the Star-Advertiser. She graduated from UCLA in 1977 with a B.A. in Communication Studies.

congrats to both. From UH: Taylor Averill and Brook Sedore were selected to Volleyball Magazine’s NCAA Men’s All-American list. Averill was picked to the first team while Sedore was a second team selection. From UH today: Five members of the University of Hawaii men’s volleyball team were selected to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Academic team announced by the conference office. Middle blocker Taylor Averill and opposite Johann Timmer each earned their third MPSF all-academic award while outside hitter Sinisa Zarkovic, setter Joby Ramos, and libero Kolby Kanetake were first-year recipients. The USAV recognized Kevin Wong as its outstanding male junior coach of the year and the 1964 pioneer Olympic volleyball teams’ 50th anniversary.
