Cindy Luis covers University of Hawaii volleyball for the Star-Advertiser. She began her career as a sports journalist in Hawaii in 1981 with the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and was the sports editor, assistant sports editor, columnist and beat writer during a 31-year span before the paper became the Star-Advertiser. She graduated from UCLA in 1977 with a B.A. in Communication Studies.

From USAV The U.S. Women’s National Team, ranked No. 1 in the world, capped its four-match USA Volleyball Cup series with No. 3 China with a 25-22, 27-25, 25-22 victory Friday evening in San Bernardino, Calif. Another new lineup. Catching up from Tuesday. in case you missed it, China def. Team USA 3-2 at UCI 27-29, 25-21, 19-25, 25-19, 17-15. Pac-12 to sponsor sand volleyball, WCC too

(see update on bottom of thread. thanks for the help Rayson) The Pac-12 announced that sand volleyball will become an officially sponsored sport beginning next season, making it the conference’s 23rd sport. The Pac-12 becomes the first major conference to sponsor sand volleyball. Eight member institutions currently sponsor the sport, well above the conference threshold of six teams to consider sport sponsorship. Lights went out for about 15 minutes around 545. they delayed opening the arena until it was safe and not dark. doesn’t sound like it will affect start time. the protocol stayed on track. UH assistant coach Robyn Ah Mow-Santos was introduced and did the ceremonial coin flip.

U.S. Men top Russia in 4 Friday, 3 Saturday

from USA Volleyball The U.S. Men overcame a scrappy Russian squad and their own mistakes to win their third straight 2015 FIVB World League match in a row, 25-18, 24-26, 25-15, 28-26 on Friday at the Walter Pyramid. Setting was Micah Christenson (2 aces) with Erik Shoji at libero. Kawika Shoji played one set as a serving sub. On Saturday, USA sweeps 25-23, 25-21, 25-16. Christensen again set, E. Shoji the libero.

USA women’s practice

Team was about 30 minutes late. Issue with the bus pickup. They’re in the arena for about 2 hours. photo above of Karch Kiraly and, in the blue shirt, Tama Miyashiro. China will be here for a 330 practice. Ticket sales not as brisk as they were were Brazil last year. Also, no TV for the matches. USAV said there will be YouTube but delayed on demand, whatever that means. Radio 1420AM live both nights.

USA men take 2 from Iran

Christanson had a very good series vs. Iran the past two nights, had a combined 8 aces in the FIVB World League matches. Erik Shoji solid at libero. Kawika Shoji used a serving sub. Libero Alfee Reft didn’t play.
