Thursday: TMO donations, BeachBows Sunday MVB

By Cindy Luis on October 22, 2015

Did get an answer from compliance on possible donations to help Manu-Olevao’s family get here from the Big Island. Donations for a specific athlete would be considered an extra benefit. so it’s a no. Sunday’s BeachBows Horseshoe tournament is on the grass soccer field and not the ‘cocoanut grove’ between Gym 1 and the SSC. The form still says the latter From 1-6 p.m. registration still open http://www.hawaiiathletics.com/news/2015/10/9/WBVB_1009150729.aspx?path=wsvb forgot to mention the other day that I dropped by men’s vb […]

By Cindy Luis on October 21, 2015

From UH University of Hawai‘i junior middle hitter Annie Mitchem suffered a fracture dislocation of her little finger on her right hand in the Rainbow Wahine’s most recent match against UC Irvine on Oct. 17. Mitchem had surgery on Wednesday and her projected recovery should last approximately six weeks. “This is an unfortunate injury for Annie and the team,” head coach Dave Shoji said in a release. “She was playing well and improving daily. We hope she can rejoin the […]

By Cindy Luis on October 21, 2015

Good morning. Team not practicing Wednesday. They had weights this morning. Do not have any injury updates. Belated happy birthday to Savanah Kahakai. It was Tuesday. There were cupcakes. Sunday is the 3rd Portuguese horseshoes fundraiser for the BeachBows. on campus, grassy area between Gym 1 and SSC. http://www.hawaiiathletics.com/news/2015/10/9/WBVB_1009150729.aspx?path=wsvb People had asked about donating to Tai’s family. my suggestion is to contact the booster club. http://www.koaanuenue.org/booster-clubs/rainbow-wahine-volleyball-booster-club Someone had suggested hostels for housing. I think her church is involved with that […]

POW honors for Manu-Olevao, UH up to 26 in RPI, stays at 8 in poll

Wahine stay at 8 in poll. Leapfrogged by Kansas (18-0) which went from 9 to 7 http://www.avca.org/divisions/division-one-women/poll-10-19-2015/ Hawaii up two spots to 26 in RPI http://web1.ncaa.org/app_data/weeklyrpi/2015WVBrpi1.html still a little mind boggling that Arkansas State (19-1) is at 13. Sunday checkin, Top 25 scores

By Cindy Luis on October 18, 2015

Saturday thread getting a little hard to follow so Sunday morning QBing can start here. I am off today and have some commitments that will keep me off the blog until late afternoon. Couple of thoughts. Not sure how many other teams could have pulled that type of match out given all the injuries and missing starters. From what I was told later, Mitchem injured her hand diving for a ball in Set 1 but apparently didn’t make it known […]

No. 8 Hawaii 3, UCI 1

By Cindy Luis on October 17, 2015

Taylor is in sweats and on the bench while team is on the court for warmups. Likely following concussion protocol. Officially, it’s ‘not cleared to play.’ This snaps her starting streak at 38 matches. Mitchem will start on the right

Saturday: early Top 25

By Cindy Luis on October 17, 2015

Carry over from last night. seems like folks agree that Taylor should not have come back in and that she should sit out tonight. As mentioned last night, Shoji said if that happens, then he’ll either got with Mitchem on the right or Castillo. Someone mentioned that Shoji said that Mitchem was the best player in practice this week. What I heard him say was that Mitchem had HER best practice so far this week. So perhaps someone could clarify […]
