Holly says this is the right place … and this could be his time

By Dave Reardon on July 27, 2018

Freddie Holly III is gone … sorry, didn’t mean to scare you. It’s just that the University of Hawaii running back with loads of potential would like to be known as Fred from now on rather than Freddie. After an off-season of discontent for some (former) Warriors, Holly’s happiness to be here never waned — and on Friday he was elated with the start of practice. “When I talk to my family I always say there’s no place I’d rather […]

VIDEO: Freshman QBs sling it on Day 1

By Brian McInnis on July 27, 2018

For an exceptionally young Hawaii football team, it seemed fitting that two true freshmen quarterbacks had just as many opportunities as everyone else on Day 1. Saint Louis School product Chevan Cordeiro and Jeremy Moussa of Eleanor Roosevelt High (Chino Hills, Calif.) were among the six signal-callers sporting orange jerseys and getting reps at Cooke Field on Friday. A redshirt freshman out of Farrington, Justin Uahinui, was also in the mix. “They got a ton of reps. That’s the most […]

By Stephen Tsai on July 27, 2018

Middle linebacker Jahlani Tavai and center Kaiwi Chung participated in today’s first practice of training camp. This summer, they were withheld from team activities while school officials investigated their role in a June 9 scuffle. They were arrested on misdemeanor accusations. But no charges have been filed. They participated in last week’s pep rally downtown, and they were involved in all phases of practice today. Also: > The Warriors ran two huddles simultaneously today in an effort to provide more […]

2018-19 hoops schedule update

By Brian McInnis on July 25, 2018

We’re in the thick of the college basketball schedule waiting game. Right around July and August, 353 Division I programs steadily roll out their nonconference (and sometimes full) slates, usually announcing it on Twitter. About 75 teams have released their out-of-conference schedules so far. Hawaii is not among them; only Long Beach State and UC Irvine have done so among Big West teams. If we go by the first three years of the Eran Ganot era, UH will release its […]

HD League tips off

By Brian McInnis on July 3, 2018

Let the development begin. The Hawaii Development League, or rebranded College Summer League, actually has been going for about a week now with its women’s half of competition. But Monday night at St. Francis School’s gymnasium, the next generation of the long-running league really got going. Local hoops veterans Derrick Low and Kyle Pape spearheaded the renovation/revolution, but got help from others behind the scenes. Many of the old veterans that populated the league, for better or worse, have been […]

Wahine soccer 2018 schedule set

By Brian McInnis on June 13, 2018

Michele Nagamine’s young team will be put to the test right from the jump in the upcoming 2018 season.
