Warrior Beat: Naotala visits Warriors

By Stephen Tsai on August 24, 2018

FORT COLLINS >> In a special and inspiring visit, Kalepo Naotala met with the Warriors at the hotel. Naotala was a freshman defensive tackle when he suffered a spinal injury during an accident off Waikiki in July 2017. Following the accident, he was transferred to Craig Hospital, a rehabilitation facility in Colorado that specializes in spinal-cord injuries. After that, he returned to his home in Virginia. He is in Colorado this weekend for follow-up treatment. “I’m happy to see Kalepo […]

Smooth road practice for Warriors

By Stephen Tsai on August 23, 2018

GREELEY, COLO. >> After arriving in Colorado early today, the Warriors rested and then participated in a no-padded workout on the Northern Colorado campus. The intent was to get acclimated to Colorado’s high altitude and adjust from the jet lag. A more thorough workout is planned for tomorrow. The pattern was flipped from the usual schedule in which the Warriors have an extensive practice on Thursday and lighter walk-through on Friday. We took a quick tour of the CSU campus:

No Wahine matches Fri-Sat, maybe Sunday? Preview out on Friday

By Cindy Luis on August 23, 2018

Just got word from UH that there definitely will be no matches Friday and Saturday between the Wahine and Kansas State. There is a possibility of Sunday but that decision will be made by end of business hours Friday (think that’s 4:30 pm or 5 p.m.). No time given for the match if it is played. Due to Hurricane Lane, there will be no #HawaiiWVB matches on Fri, 8/24 & Sat, 8/25. A decision on any potential of a Sunday, […]

Warrior Beat: Off to Colorado

By Stephen Tsai on August 22, 2018

On breakaway day, the Warriors played fastbreak football. The Warriors are scheduled to depart this evening in advance of the season opener against Colorado State in Fort Collins, Colo. Today, the Warriors practiced at an accelerated pace, punctuated with a 2-minute drill, in anticipation of playing in Fort Collins’ 5,003-foot elevation. It is part of a ritual throughout preseason training in which the Warriors ran “gassers” — sideline-to-sideline sprints — each practice.

Nagamine saddened by tourney cancellation

By Brian McInnis on August 21, 2018

College soccer seasons go by pretty quickly. From a team’s perspective, you have to make every game count to put yourself in position for the postseason. From a spectator’s perspective, you have a finite number of chances to catch a team at home, especially when you consider that in the Big West play there are only four home games per team. Hawaii had two of its 11 home dates lopped off on Tuesday morning, as the Rainbow Wahine Soccer Invitational […]

Warrior Beat: Lane concerns, depth chart released

By Stephen Tsai on August 21, 2018

The Warriors expressed concern as Hurricane Lane approaches the island chain. “I’m praying,” said slotback Dakota Torres, a Waianae resident. “I’m hoping it passes us by or miraculously dissipates before it gets here. But, still, it’s pretty nerve-wracking.” The Warriors are scheduled to depart tomorrow on a direct flight to Denver in advance of Saturday’s game against Colorado State. “I worry about people here,” head coach Nick Rolovich said. “Hey, we’ve got enough warriors on the island. They’ll keep it […]
