Finding the right combination

By Stephen Tsai on May 21, 2010

There are interesting ramifications to head coach Greg McMackin’s announcement that slotback Greg Salas would moonlight at deep safety and defensive end Paipai Falemalu would start at strongside linebacker in the Warriors’ base defense. Actually, the Warriors do not have a primary defensive scheme. The closest is the 4-3 alignment used in basic situations, such as first-and-10. In football, everyone is compared to someone else, and Falemalu reminds the UH coaches of Chad Brown. McMackin believes Falemalu will be a […]

Charlie Wade chat

By Stephen Tsai on May 18, 2010

Thanks again to Charlie Wade for appearing on today’s Warrior Beat Show. Some bits from the show: • The exact dates for the 2011 home  schedule are awaiting approval. But Wade said that Penn State, Ball State and UCLA will play in next year’s Outrigger Invitational. • The MPSF shot down a proposal, by a vote of 5-6-1, that would have made sets played to 25 points (instead of the current 30 points). • UH is expected to put in […]

Aaron Kia said he signed a one-year contract with the New York Jets today. Kia participated in a tryout this morning. After that, Kia and two other linemen took physical examinations. After that, he was summoned into an office, where he was told he would be offered a contract. Kia projects to compete at left tackle, the position he played last season. * * * * * OK, OK. We’ve heard about Boise State’s wandering eye. If I were running […]
