Cindy Luis covers University of Hawaii volleyball for the Star-Advertiser. She began her career as a sports journalist in Hawaii in 1981 with the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and was the sports editor, assistant sports editor, columnist and beat writer during a 31-year span before the paper became the Star-Advertiser. She graduated from UCLA in 1977 with a B.A. in Communication Studies.

Thanks to everyone who posted. Took longer than expected to get back home Hawaii senior Emily Hartong, who led the Rainbow Wahine to road wins over Long Beach State and UC Irvine last week, was named the Big West Volleyball Player of the Week for the third time this season. The Hawaii volleyball team, riding a 13-match winning streak, moved up a spot to No. 5 in the AVCA Coaches Top 25 Division I poll announced today. The Rainbow Wahine (15-1) received four first-place votes, one more than last week’s poll. The top five teams all moved up one place, beginning with new No. 1 USC (14-1, 47 votes).
