Cindy Luis covers University of Hawaii volleyball for the Star-Advertiser. She began her career as a sports journalist in Hawaii in 1981 with the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and was the sports editor, assistant sports editor, columnist and beat writer during a 31-year span before the paper became the Star-Advertiser. She graduated from UCLA in 1977 with a B.A. in Communication Studies.

Team practiced in light passing drizzles (after the passing deluge) yesterday afternnon. actually fairly cool and pleasant. Hall said it’s all about adapting to conditions. Can remember the first year the Wahine were at Hermosa Beach for the USAV Challenge. it was cold and rainy and miserable. Anyway, did ask Hall about the outgoing seniors playing in spring. Averill POW, Hawaii up to 7 in poll

From the MPSF Senior middle blocker Taylor Averill was named men’s volleyball’s Mountain Pacific Sports Federation/Molten Player of the Week (Jan. 19-25). It is Averill’s second weekly conference award this season. The San Jose, Calif. native played a big role, along with his teammates, in netting two consecutive victories last weekend over UC Santa Barbara (Jan. 16 & 18), ending a seven-match losing streak to the Gauchos.
