Cindy Luis covers University of Hawaii volleyball for the Star-Advertiser. She began her career as a sports journalist in Hawaii in 1981 with the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and was the sports editor, assistant sports editor, columnist and beat writer during a 31-year span before the paper became the Star-Advertiser. She graduated from UCLA in 1977 with a B.A. in Communication Studies.

Saturday: arrival in Seattle

We have arrived. Flight a little bumpy. It is 52 degrees at 5 a.m. Team managed to sleep a little. One of the exit signs fell into the aisle at takeoff, landing next to my seat mate, Tai Manu-Olevao. She picked up and put it in the seat pocket. We joked that we didn’t realize that we were now in an exit row. Have about a 2-hour layover then off to JFK.

Seriously, 730 a.m. and still have not packed. We are out of HNL tonight to SEA, Saturday will be long travel, SEA-JFK-Milan, arriving Sunday morning.
