By Cindy Luis on August 12, 2016

Sad news for her. same injury as last year, different hand. She came back in really great shape, too. Said surgery next week, a pin for a couple of weeks. not sure of the timeline after that.

A very short morning

By Cindy Luis on August 12, 2016

Hall gave all the middles and hitters the morning off, said that they had been taken a lot of reps when missing two attackers (Mitchem and Burns). Wanted to have them rest their legs and be back this afternoon. Practice was only an hour this morning. So at the moment Koelsch is the height at 6-1. Four setters and seven DSs. But as Baxter said, they could beat some DI teams with these players. Mitchem had a 7:45 a.m. appointment. […]

Thursday check-in, US men over Brazil in 4

By Cindy Luis on August 11, 2016

Forgot to mention that former all-MPSF libero Vernon Podlewski was at yesterday’s afternoon session. Gave a very inspirational talk on the importance of defense and communication. Nice guy. Real job is as a longshoreman. still plays volleyball A couple of points of emphasis this week have been covering tip shots and serving areas. Players are tracking how accurate their serves are when told to serve certain areas. One difference this year is it is a lot louder. Players seem to […]

Wahine No. 6 in AVCA poll, Mitchem out

By Cindy Luis on August 10, 2016

SCROLL DOWN FOR MITCHELL ITEM Avca.org Hawaii 6 1 Nebraska 2 Texas 3 Minnesota 4 Wisconsin 5 Kansas 6 Hawaii As for the picture, first time I had seen this ‘Turn and Run’ drill. Baxter held a bozu ball above the net, Hall hit into the ball so that it would carom off like a touch on the block. defenders had to turn and run to chase down the ball. Even though it looks like Baxter took a facial, a […]

Wahine open practice, picked preseason BWC No. 1; US men lose in 4

By Cindy Luis on August 9, 2016

Bright and early with Virtual Dave in attendance. Ma’afala said she is redshirting, is working out with the setters. practice went from 6 -8 a.m. Freshmen took off to head to summer school class. They’ll be back at 3 p.m. for second sessions. Don’t ask me how people look, other than Iosia has lovely hands. Pretty much it was stretching and drills, some team, some by position. Only one who didn’t participate was Burns, who wasn’t feeling well. Hawaii was […]

By Cindy Luis on August 8, 2016

Hope everyone had a good summer. With practice starting Tuesday that’s been my signal that summer is over Still waiting on Big West to release their preseason poll. Last year, it came out on Aug. 5 AVCA poll scheduled to be out Aug. 10, according to their website. Catching up on a few things. Not a good match for the U.S. men vs. Canada Sunday. really poor passing. U.S. (0-1) plays Italy (1-0) Tuesday. thought the U.S. women were going […]

Thursday check-in

By Cindy Luis on July 28, 2016

No real reason other than past thread was a few days old. Berg expected to arrive Saturday, Pestolesi on Monday. Shoji leaves for Brazil Wednesday. They’ll be meeting before Shoji leaves to discuss the general practice routines. They’re expecting to communicate every day with practice updates. don’t know if there will be video sent. Probably will know more before first practice on the 9th. Hall said that Castillo was good to go. She’s had this nagging hip thing I guess.
