Aydin closes record run at NCAA meet

University of Hawaii sophomore Metin Aydin finished 18th in the 200-yard backstroke in school-record time at the NCAA men’s swimming and diving championships today at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind. Aydin fell just short of qualifying for the finals in his second event this week, but his time of 1 minute, 41.02 seconds edged his previous UH-best of 1:41.03. University of Hawaii sophomore Metin Aydin set a school record for a second straight day and placed 19th in the 100-yard backstroke at the NCAA men’s swimming and diving championships on today at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind. A day after setting the school record in the 200 individual medley, Aydin posted a time of 46.27 seconds in Friday’s preliminaries to lower the UH record he set on Feb. 27 at the Bulldog last Chance Invitational. McNulty, the subject of this week’s Star-Advertiser Warrior World feature, made the Olympic trials cut in the 100-meter butterfly at the Hawaii Swimming Senior Championships in November and UH assistant coach Jennifer Buffin said a few more swimmers could make a run at the qualifying marks in their events. Rainbow Wahine senior Lauren Hall closed the fall season by adding to her list of diving accolades at the Georgia Tech Invitational last weekend . After setting a personal best in 1-meter diving in a dual meet with Air Force on Oct. 30, Hall returned home to Atlanta and qualified for the finals in all three events in one of the biggest meets the Rainbow Wahine will compete in this season with 58 divers entered. Harrison 16th in 3-meter diving at NCAA championships

University of Hawaii junior Aimee Harrison finished 16th in 3-meter diving at the NCAA Swimming and Diving championships on Friday in Greensboro, N.C. Harrison, who placed 14th in the 1-meter on Thursday, advanced out of the 3-meter preliminaries in 13th place with a total score of 327.40. Her 316.20 placed her eighth in the B Final. Harrison 14th in 1-meter diving at NCAA meet

Hawaii junior Aimee Harrison placed 14th overall in the 1-meter diving finals at the NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Greensboro, N.C. on Thursday. Harrison advanced out of Thursday morning’s preliminaries in 16th place with 298.35 points. She then placed sixth in the B Final with 308.45. Swimming: Alkhaldi update from Asian Games

UH swimmer Jasmine Alkhaldi’s stint at the Asian Games ended without an appearance in the finals. But Alkhaldi, the lone female swimmer representing the Philippines in the meet, did reach a couple of goals during her stay in Incheon, South Korea. The top eight qualifiers advance to the event finals and Alkhaldi was ninth in her first three — the 100-meter freestyle, 100 butterfly and 200 free — and finished 10th in qualifying in the 50 freestyle on Thursday.
