The Hawaii football team’s 18 seniors will be honored Saturday in the team’s 2018 home finale. But the Rainbow Warriors (6-5, 3-3 Mountain West), losers of four straight, still hope to qualify for the Hawaii Bowl by defeating UNLV at Aloha Stadium and thereby securing another home date on Dec. 22. Yesterday’s pledge from a former 4-star athlete — back/receiver Melquise Stovall — further boosts the Warriors’ 2019 recruiting class. Stovall was at California for two years before enrolling at Riverside City College this semester. Stovall, who can run 40 yards in 4.5 seconds, was rated as the nation’s No. 6 all-purpose back as a Paraclete High senior in 2016. He had committed, then de-committed to USC, before signing with Cal. Following today’s 90-minute practice, slotback John Ursua was told he was one of 11 semifinalists for the Biletnikoff Award as the nation’s top receiver. Ursua leads the nation in touchdown receptions (15). He is fourth in receiving yards (1,161), sixth in receiving yards per game (105.5) and ninth in catches per game (7.2). Ursua also demonstrated his new look — a haircut that left a small tail. UH has set up a Web site for Ursua: Ursua5.com

Warrior Beat: Scout Bowl

The Warriors saved the Scout Bowl for a rainy day. In a 24-play, (mostly) full-contact scrimmage, quarterback Justin Uahinui had a breakout day. Uahinui completed 12 of 17 passes for 183 yards and three touchdowns. Three freshmen — Adam Netane, Keliam Brunn and James Green — each caught a scoring pass.
