Warrior Beat: Who wants UH-SDSU tickets?

Thanks to two generous readers β€” Tom Kitaguchi and “Whitey” β€” we will be giving away two tickets to the Nov. 24 UH-San Diego State game in San Diego. (They’re located on the 40, right behind the UH bench.)

To enter the drawing, please post: I want the tickets!

Two rules: 1) It’s just the tickets, NO airfare. 2) Enter as many times as you wish.

Tom will pick the winner. DPK will make sure the blog hosts mails the tickets.

    Go Warriors!

  2. Savich November 14, 2018 1:40 pm

Good afternoon. Go Warriors beat the Rebels.

  3. Savich November 14, 2018 1:43 pm

They had practice this morning. They must practice smarter. And I don’t want the tickets.

  4. Derek November 14, 2018 2:05 pm

No thanks for the tickets. Last time I went to San Diego State, Rolo and the Warriors lost to them 55-0. Enough said. I don’t even remember UH beat SDSU in San Diego, and I’ve been a UH fan for over 50 years.

  5. Brian Norman November 14, 2018 2:31 pm

I could use the tickets. Ican bring Matt Norman

    Wahine Soccer signs seven: https://hawaiiathletics.com/news/2018/11/14/womens-soccer-seven-sign-nlis-with-rainbow-wahine-soccer.aspx

No real bios, though. They gotta find players to fill the void left by Raisa Strom-Okimoto and Sarah Lau.

  10. UH Fan for Life November 14, 2018 4:27 pm

I remember going to the 1992 Hawaii vs SDSU game at Jack Murphy stadium. Marshall Faulk rushed for 300 yards and the Aztecs won 52-28. That was the last UH road game I attended.
Hoping for a better result on November 24.

  11. Music Man November 14, 2018 4:31 pm

I would have loved to attend the game in San Diego as I live in L.A. 2 hour drive but I have a gig that evening.

Brian & Matt Norman would be a no brainer since Matt was an offensive lineman for Hawaii unless he gets free tickets being an Alumni of the football team?

This Saturday will be the most opportunistic time to qualify for the Hawaii Bowl. If CORY BATOONE can come up with a defense to stop UNLV……..The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors should prevail. Hawaii had a bye week to prepare for UNLV………No excuse CORY…..You have the talent on defense, coach them RIGHT.

Rolovich, Forget the trick plays! if your calling the plays, keep it simple and play to your strength. Use the pass to set up your running game.

  26. tom-warriornation November 14, 2018 7:28 pm

I want to make it clear that these 2 tickets are all from Whitey; and he also donated to my Warrior Nation fund to help UH Football recruiting!

Come join our group of 258 UH fans sitting together at SDSU on Nov 24 (better than sitting with SDSU fans, right?); and also our Hawaii tailgate there, headed by Fuchsia Yamashiro (our UNLV tailgate organizer) and Lee & Tricia Afusia (Kody’s parents). Not too late to join in; text Tom 415-324-0585.

  27. Savich November 14, 2018 7:39 pm

If they can concentrate on UNLV first. Their quarterback will be 6-3. Cole will be starting. 6-4. They have two running backs to look out for. They ran to beat San Diego State last week. Hawai’i does not have a runner. Freddy Holly III is their only legit running back. Armstrong – Brown is their go to guy. Then Ursua. If we can put up points early, +21 we may be able to stave off the running game of UNLV. Otherwise a battle all the way.

  28. SteveM November 14, 2018 7:54 pm

    Thank you tom-warriornation and whitey!

Many here today might not know that 11 years ago, whitey was declared the Maui Tsai-ko Chaptah President. Many Cattle Calls in Kahului, Wailuku, and Las Vegas followed. Although he posts only occasionally nowadays, our host and honorary mayor of Maui is watching. πŸ™‚

They had an F flight crew and ground crew. The airplane was downed due to engine failure. But passed inspection on the ground.

  33. suckkabooya November 15, 2018 1:40 am

I don’t recall anything like this before here. Only 15 Seniors. Four starters (Jahlani, Hudson-Rasmussen, Zeno, Armstrong-Brown). Four others are key contributors (Borden, Dale, Stubblefield, Kamaka). Two others had noteworthy contributions past seasons (Chung, Davis). Also Tuileta, Tuinei, and Ito made unique contributions with their “character”. Not too much of an incoming recruiting class coming I guess. You never know if there will be some choosing to transfer out though. Hope not like last year. And of course Ursua may opt to go pro. Should have lots of depth next year, especially O and D line. Pretty deep at WR, RB, QB, SS, nickle and kick returners too. Hard to believe. Unreal actually.

  34. suckkabooya November 15, 2018 2:08 am

Sorry, Torres and Eldridge are seniors too (totally forgot Torres was a senior and I thought Eldridge was a junior). Both key contributors. So 17 or so (I think) recruits to fill those losses. Hope we still have Bowers on track. I also couldn’t find Dalpe on the UH Athletics Football roster. Hope he’s still here.

  35. Bookumdanoaloha November 15, 2018 5:15 am

After the Hawaii/SDSU game go to Bully’s East Restaurant (just 5 mins away). Prime rib bits with garlic bread over a old beer is ONO. Ask for Wok the Korean bartender from Queens NY. The owner JD spends half the year on the Islands. Big Time Rugby guy who played a lot in Hawaii. It’s my favorite watering hole in San Diego. Can’t make the game. Spending Thanksgiving on the Islands with my kids and grand kids. First time together for Thanksgiving in 18 year. Bookumdanoaloha

    GOOD MORNING, HAWAII!

    WHITEY – you number 1

  40. SailorBlue November 15, 2018 8:22 am

Aloha everybody ~ It’s almost time for the last home FOOTBALL GAME and a T-GATE of the year. ***CABANA A*** Rainbow Bay Marina is still the place to be. Also it’s WHITE-OUT for the game. Come early as people will be bringing the tgate specialties (i.e. Mrs. Momo’s onolicious pan laulau, JM’s bread pudding, etc). The normal routine is in effect. Donations to pay for the Cabana, pop-up tent and common items are always appreciated. Remember, everybody is welcome. Questions – email me at jboster(at)yahoo(dot)com. Hope to see everybody there. Cheers, SB

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  45. cappie the dog November 15, 2018 4:38 pm

    Enough sports.

Filmmaker Wong Kar-Wai better show up at the Dole Cannery screening of “Chungking Express”. I have seen this film innumerable times. I am there to see a legendary contemporary filmmaker.

Famous people I’ve seen who made cameos at the Stan Sheriff Center: Franco Harris, Cal Ripken Jr. and Keith Urban.

  46. Akamai Okole November 15, 2018 6:49 pm

    Great evening All!

    I want a WEEN!

    Mahalo Tom Kitaguchi. Mahalo whitey,

    You the bestestest!

  47. tom-warriornation November 15, 2018 8:35 pm

Is there any news on the UNLV team or our practices?

We need to play like there is no tomorrow; and score TD’s on every possession!

UNLV has a great running back Lexington Thomas; a 270 lb fullback; and a solid defensive front!

  48. seewhy November 16, 2018 12:51 am

    RE: #43 DPK

Yes, we do! I am not too optimistic about that game. But I am for this weekend’s game. Will be there supporting the team and saying Aloha to the seniors.

  49. cappie the dog November 16, 2018 3:59 am

San Diego State won at Boise, but if they lose at Fresno, Hawaii will be facing a team that lost three out of their last four games.

If the bye week was better placed, I don’t think Hawaii would be on this current four-game losing streak.

I think we’re going to see the 6-1 Hawaii team on Saturday and the following week.

  50. cappie the dog November 16, 2018 4:06 am

2:30PM start time for women’s basketball?

The demographics for women’s basketball and high school football do not overlap.

If you put Hawaii vs. Portland in direct competition against either Mililani/Campbell at 4:30 and Kahuku/St. Louis/Kahuku, you’re not creating a dilemma for Hawaii sports fans.

Hawaii will be playing in an empty arena.

  51. cappie the dog November 16, 2018 4:15 am

Wong Kar Wai spoke for 52 minutes.

It was the greatest moment in the history of the Hawaii International Film Festival.

Every ten years Sight and Sound, a British film journal, conducts a poll among critics and filmmakers, asking them to list the ten greatest films of all-time.

Wong Kar Wai has a film ranked twenty-fourth. That’s the sixth-highest for a living filmmaker.

I was dying to ask a question during the Q & A. I wanted to ask, “Do you think David Lynch borrowed your idea of dopplegangers in “Lost Highway”. It would have been more entertaining for the sold-out audience than the Chinese national who spoke for ninety seconds. The interviewer, Anderson Le, looked ticked off. Mandarin sounds awesome, though.

Can’t wait….packing the family up on Tuesday for a California vacation and to cheer on the Warriors!!!!

  56. HawaiiMongoose November 16, 2018 3:24 pm

    50. Cappie, I agree, bad time for the women’s basketball game but I assume it’s because the women’s volleyball team is playing tonight and the SSC staff need a couple of hours in between to take out the basketball floor and hoops and put in the volleyball teraflex and nets.

Bye the way I’m posting this from the basketball game and to say the crowd is “sparse” is an understatement. I just counted 168 fans in stands. Some are away from their seats because it’s halftime so total attendance is probably 200-250. Ouch.

  57. cappie the dog November 16, 2018 6:05 pm

    56. HawaiiMongoose, I was at the game, too. I counted 68 people on the players’ side. I thought the volleyball game was tomorrow night.

  58. cappie the dog November 16, 2018 6:14 pm

    56.

That sequence where Kanoa stole the ball and missed the 8-foot shot, then they got another steal, and Jadyn Alexander missed the layup.

I liked Rachel Odumu’s effort in the second half.

    I died a little inside.
