Rolo, Warriors take slow start as learning experience

The University of Hawaii played ugly early tonight, but turned on the juice in time to beat FCS opponent Duquesne 42-21 and improve to 4-1. In 2007, when UH plastered FCS team Northern Colorado 63-6 to start the season, the Warriors led 42-0 at halftime, and Colt Brennan and some of the other starters came out for halftime in street clothes, their work for the night done. Hawaii and today’s opponent, Duquesne of the Football Championship Subdivision, have never encountered each other on a football field, so that makes going through the series history and picking a game to highlight a little challenging. Defensive lineman Foi Shaw’s dog, Haven, loves to steal his blanket at night. Shaw and his family decided every dog should enjoy such creature comforts. They made it a pet project to donate blankets to the Humane Society. This past week, they fulfilled that pledge turning over 100 blankets donated by Delta Air Lines and American Airlines. “I love animals,” Shaw said. “My family and I took it upon ourselves to help give dogs extra care.” UH coach Nick Rolovich […]
