Warrior Beat: Lineman provides blanket coverage

Defensive lineman Foi Shaw successfully launched a program to supply blankets for dogs. / Photo by Stephen Tsai

Defensive lineman Foi Shaw’s dog, Haven, loves to steal his blanket at night.

Shaw and his family decided every dog should enjoy such creature comforts. They made it a pet project to donate blankets to the Humane Society. This past week, they fulfilled that pledge turning over 100 blankets donated by Delta Air Lines and American Airlines.

“I love animals,” Shaw said. “My family and I took it upon ourselves to help give dogs extra care.”

UH coach Nick Rolovich said: “We knew he was a good guy. I didn’t know he was an incredible guy. The more you get to know him and how he approaches every day, he’s very conscientious. He wants to do the right thing for everyone around him. He believes in servant leadership, you can tell. I’m happy for him. I’m happy he’s with our team.”

Shaw was known as Foi Sila as a Farrington High student. He is finalizing changing his surname to Shaw.

Foi changed his last name from Sila to Shaw?

  2. Jeezy33 September 21, 2018 10:52 am

Ok I only now saw the final sentence.

  3. Stephen Tsai September 21, 2018 10:53 am

Yep. I think Shaw is the surname of an uncle and aunt.

  4. Stephen Tsai September 21, 2018 10:54 am

“Foi” gets some reporters excited. It’s the acronym for “freedom of information.” That’s the request filed that supposedly gets state institutions to release contract info.

  5. Akamai Okole September 21, 2018 11:15 am

    Gotcha covered.

Chicken Grease (per TV ad idea)

You’re right, they are probably to long for TV ads. But they are just ideas meant to get peoples minds rolling to the potential of marketing. There are other opportunities that are available such as You Tube and other various platforms. Maybe they can use the (HCC I think) Theatre program and Video Production programs to reduce costs, maybe even offer Project Class Credits for it. The main object of the “Joe’s house crew” was to attract a younger fan base (even as young as children) that is important for UH’s future. Coach Rolovich has everything headed in the right direction and the Stadium can fill now that there is some Success, but we need to put some effort to reach a younger audience for our future. This is the time to strike while the “fire” is “hot”. Got to be ready by next season.

  8. suckkabooya September 21, 2018 11:40 am

Next year is the “Hot” year. Everything got to be ready. All the Promotions (TV, radio, news media, print media, in Stadium promos, and any other various outlets that can be used for advancement). We got to execute. So important. Coach Rolovich is executing his end of the “process”. I think we can do it.

ST toss this fool permanently , before someone else does…

I recall many months ago, readership on the blog dropped quite a bit because one Troll (maybe more under different names) spoiled the blog with idiotic comments.

Hope history is not repeating itself.

  11. Stephen Tsai September 21, 2018 12:46 pm

    That reminds me. It’s gray-bin day …

  12. NotNasti September 21, 2018 1:02 pm

    Mr. Mui,
History has been repeating itself, in many different iterations.

  22. iGrokSpock September 21, 2018 5:42 pm

  23. H-Man September 21, 2018 6:13 pm

Watching KHON2 news – UH pep rally. They were handing out Warrior “H” t-shirts in white with “red H.” Anyone know why?

I think the players are still sleeping.

    6:00 p.m. game Hawai’i time.

  31. Boolakanaka September 22, 2018 7:20 am

Scott Frost is thinking about the sunshine and talent of central Florida, and most importantly, his incredible former QB—down 37-0 mid 2nd quarter.

    Go ‘Bows! Go Warriors!
    Imua Koa!

  33. suckkabooya September 22, 2018 8:18 am

Stunning. Poor Coach Frost. I guess that’s why it took two years before Coach Rolovich could implement his offense. You need the right types for your collective systems.

  34. suckkabooya September 22, 2018 8:37 am

The offensive coaches got to figure out how to get Jo Jo Ward off of press coverage. I know its freeing up others but he is such a playmaker and it should be an uncomplicated adjustment. He needs a “re-breakout” game to regain the swagger that he’ll need during conference play (and needed last week frankly). They can do it. This is the right time to work it out.

  35. suckkabooya September 22, 2018 9:01 am

I think we need a “Ladies Night” promotion one day. Especially on the Homecoming game (or the home game that intersects Halloween). Maybe 50% off or something. Every good Nightclub knows when there are a lot of Ladies the Men will follow, especially homecoming game (“wink, wink”)

  36. Idunnonuttin September 22, 2018 9:03 am

Duquesne might be startinq quarterback #7 6-5 & 220 ibs. Jr. Brett Brumbaugh, From McDonald, Pa. , South Lafayette.

This will be interesting. A really big guy. Cole is a big guy too. Cole is 6-4.

  41. seewhy September 22, 2018 12:48 pm

  46. clyde September 22, 2018 3:20 pm

Whoa. Army went on a 19-play, 85-yard scoring drive that consumed 10:47. It’s tied 21-21 after three quarters.

  47. seewhy September 22, 2018 3:39 pm

Wow, Army makes a goal line stand and stuffs Oklahoma at the 1 yard line. Army ball with 13:18 left in the game.

  48. seewhy September 22, 2018 4:03 pm

Missed 33 yard FG!!! Going into OT!

  49. H-Man September 22, 2018 4:06 pm

Hope Army can put this one away to take down the #5 Sooners. Old Dominion (who??), Old Dominion took down #13 Virginia Tech 49-35. Never know what can happen……Go Black Knights !!!
