‘Bows impress, move onto next challenge

By Brian McInnis on November 23, 2018

Hawaii got its team Thanksgiving meal out of the way early. The Rainbow Warriors ate together the eve of the holiday and were too busy for actual festivities on Thursday, but they found reason to be thankful — a 90-79 upset of Utah in the opening round of the Wooden Legacy at Cal State Fullerton. This was a pretty sizable upset. The Pac-12 team was favored by nine points and with about 10 minutes left, the Runnin’ Utes trailed by […]

Warrior Beat: Warriors depart for final trip of season

By Stephen Tsai on November 22, 2018

The Warriors observed the four Fs today — football, family, friends and food. Following today’s 90-minute walk-through session, the Warriors feasted on a turkey brunch. They then departed to the airport for their scheduled afternoon flight to San Diego in advance of Saturday’s game against the Aztecs. The Warriors are expected to arrive in San Diego late tonight. A heavier practice is scheduled for tomorrow. Meanwhile, a two-hour drive away, the UH basketball team faces Utah tonight in the opening […]

Warrior Beat: ‘Bows hit the road

By Stephen Tsai on November 20, 2018

In darkness, the basketball ‘Bows departed the Manoa campus this morning for the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport. The ‘Bows will be playing four games during the 10-day trip, opening against Utah in the three-game Wooden Legacy tournament on Thursday. The trip ends next week in the arena John Wooden had historic success — UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion. The ‘Bows insist they have had helpful preparation for their first regular-season road trip. In August, they took a four-game trip to Australia. […]

Now the fun begins

By Brian McInnis on November 19, 2018

A neutral observer could have reasonably expected the Hawaii basketball team to go 3-1, perhaps even 4-0, through its first four games. The Rainbow Warriors (3-1) did just that with Sunday night’s 85-68 defeat of visiting Northern Arizona. Their only setback to this point was a 68-51 loss to North Texas. But that one was concerning, as UH looked a step or two slow against the most athletic team they’ve faced thus far. Well, now we find out if that […]

Akiu finished with double-digit digs in all but one match during the regular season. Her 431 digs ranks No. 4 in the […]
