Game Day: UH vs. Mississippi Valley State

The 5-4 Rainbow Warriors will be without their best perimeter defender for today’s game against Mississippi Valley State. Sheriff Drammeh is suspended for violating undisclosed rules, head coach Eran Ganot confirmed. This is the final game before next week’s prestigious Diamond Head Classic. The UH football team will be introduced in a ceremony at halftime.

The Hawaii basketball team is undefeated all-time against teams in three Division I conferences. They are the Colonial Athletic Association (4-0), the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (16-0), and the Southwestern Athletic Conference (22-0). Warrior Beat: Aloha ball

The Warriors will practice under the lights tonight at Aloha Stadium. The 90-minute workout serves two purposes: > It gives the Warriors a chance to re-acquaint with a field they have not played on since the Nov. 17 senior night. For next week’s bowl preparation, Louisiana Tech will practice at Aloha Stadium and UH will will practice on its campus. > It allows the Warriors more recruiting time during the day.

Linebacker Jahlani Tavai has been invited to participate in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl in the Rose Bowl. The all-star game is set for Jan. 19. Tavai’s season was abbreviated because of a shoulder injury. Rainbow Wahine softball renews rivalries in ’19

Rainbow Wahine softball will celebrate its 35th year of competition by taking on a schedule featuring several schools that played prominent roles at various points in the program’s history. UH released the 2019 schedule (see below) on Monday and the Wahine open the season on Feb. 7 against Georgia State in the Hawaii Paradise Classic and will also face UCLA and Fresno State during the three-day tournament at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. Warrior Beat: Green is back with ‘Bows

After missing the past weekend’s game because of “personal” reasons, junior guard Leland Green is back practicing with the basketball ‘Bows. Green eased into the flow during tonight’s two-hour practice in Gym I. During the sprint session, Green was told he could skip the final series because he appeared to be slightly winded. Gym II renovations nearing completion

A major facilities upgrade is nearly complete at the Manoa lower campus. Within perhaps a week, a climate-controlled, fully refurbished Gym II will be ready for use by the Hawaii men’s and women’s basketball teams. That’s the primary practice facility on campus outside of the Stan Sheriff Center. It’s a $9-10 million project for Gym II and I. Gym I renovations will commence once Gym II is done.
